Has Online gambling replaced let's say social drinking as a stress outlet? I remember back then, me and my office mates will have this Friday night out after a week of working and we all know that there are stress in our work specially if you work on corporate world. It's high paced, there's no time to take a break and jobs keeps piling up. And so after a tiring week me and my mates will go have fun and drink until the wee hours of the morning.

But with the advent of online gambling, I don't think that we can get back to socialized with your friends and meet others in the bar because I'm seeing that online gambling is now the modern way to cope with pressure at work and in life in general? You just go and play and isolate yourself in your bedroom until you lose your money?

That doesn't seem to be the case. Gambling and social drinking are very different. Many people still relieve stress from their daily lives by getting together with friends and drinking. It's one of the best ways to laugh together and forget about their problems for a while. But gambling actually increases adrenaline, which can exacerbate stress and ultimately lead to worse consequences. That's why online gambling will never replace social drinking.

I think if faced with the choice of drinking with friends or spending time isolating myself in my own room until I run out of money I would choose to go drinking with friends. The reason is that I'll be able to have interesting conversations and hanging out with friends is fun especially if we understand each other. And by gambling alone in my room even though there is a chance of profit by being able to get a win but it is not certain and if what happens is that we lose a lot of money it will actually increase stress.

I don't see reasons to why gambling wil replace social drinking like as it has been way back. Fun is fun and Gambling is gambling, I don't even see reason to why people will compear the Both, people still go out on Friday night for drinks and clubbing on Sundays, this doesn't stop a person from gambling or doing their normal daily Job. Gambling does not replace fun in the bear bar because because that is a consumption fun that involves intake of alcohol and some things that keep you high, but gambling will drain you emotionally, mentally, physical and financially unlike drinking fun that only drain a little of your money. There are still people drinking for fun instead of gambling fun.

I guess it would depend on the situation. Personally, I would rather be alone and not lose money to get a dopamine rush and feel happy. I think it could be an outlet, but it's better for me just to play games for a while and not think too much because that's how it starts and how it makes it hard to really focus on a specific goal.

Socializing is natural in humans and that would be a great way to destress, not all the time but still a good way. It's best for a person not to be always isolated but be with company once in a while.

I do not believe that social drinking has been substituted by online gambling. Online gambling is typically lonely and can be mentally and financially depleting, whereas drinking is typically social and associated with seeing friends, celebrating and having fun. There are those who might resort to gambling as a fast stress reliever yet that does not provide the socialization and fun that going out would. During gambling, most people continue to go out to drink or club, and therefore the two can co-exist and not one taking over the other.

for me I don’t think online gambling has completely replaced social drinking but it has definitely changed how some people deal w/ stress. Before Friday nights were about bonding talking about work, laughing, sharing stories & just relaxing together after a stressful week even if work was tough at least you weren’t dealing w/ it alone. With online gambling stress relief has become more convenient but also more isolating. You don’t need to go out or meet friends you can just stay in your room and play. The problem is that instead of releasing stress it can sometimes add more pressure especially when money is involved. The biggest difference for me is connection versus escape. Social drinking was about connection & social interaction. Online gambling feels more like an escape quick excitement but w/o real emotional support.

About gambling and social drinking...
I find the two things completely not related (likewise... I don't drink alcohol so I don't care at all about "social drinking" of the company )

Maybe these are two things that are going in a two separate ways.
Of course many people like more to gamble online... meanwhile drinking or in general habits to go out could change a lot.

I would never waste time and money in that way. If you say so; but there are many ways you waste  money. What about chasing of women. Maybe you are wasting your data online with Facebook and other social media page that's not monetize. About gambling and   social drinking. For me I don't find the two thing related why because if I don't drink, I gambling. What is the different there maybe if I don't gamble then I used my money for drinks. Because using it for gambling means you are wasting the money. But you can buy any drink of your choice. Meanwhile gambling online make you waste more money. And you most know drinking is not a general habit because I don't drink.

I believe that more people gamble not to relieve stress. Gambling may be a way to play and ease stress, but for some people. For most people, gambling becomes a place to test their luck, even to earn extra income. 
Gambling will never replace how drinking actually relieves stress, even if only for a moment. 
What actually happens is a change in people's activity patterns. Some things related to routine activities can be done online, such as shopping, ordering food, and having fun with games. All of that without leaving the place. But it doesn’t really relieve stress and fatigue.

Gambling online has nothing to do with social drinking. Because social drinking has to do friends or co-works. While gambling online a different ball game. I decide to stay in my house or hide isolate myself to gamble online nobody will know. But the only experience I will have from gambling online is the pressure. Because it money we are talking about here.and many more to be mentioned. But social drinking brings connection, information, interaction, laughter, and sharing of different stories. Maybe the guys may decide chill and relax together and have drinks.

This thread is five pages long but I want to give my own opinion about this based on what that is happening in my community. If you go out at 5 pm on Friday, you will see people drinking alcoholic drinks like beers and eating pepper soup, barbecue and other enjoying themselves at the bars, lounges, hotel and other places.

The places where they are enjoying themselves have TV, showing the live matches which makes it fun as people will also talk about the ongoing live matches.

Not really. Social drinking won’t be replaced by gambling just to ease stress after a long time of working. Maybe the reason you shifted from social drinking to gambling is because your focus has changed. Of course, your habits will change as well because you found something more appealing. Aside from that, it could also be a sign of aging, you just want to stay in your room, lie down, gamble, see if you can make a fortune, and ease your financial burden.

I agree with gambling that is done with the concept for entertainment or for fun but if gambling is done as a way to relieve stress or overcome stress it is not logical, because I think most likely the gambling that is done will only make us stressed. When we are stressed it means that we are unstable, easily emotional, easily upset by just a small thing. It's better to find other activities to deal with stress than to do gambling, this is really not a good suggestion.

Yes, this seems to be the case for some of us. As we live in the pandemic and we all do work from home. And then that is the time wherein this online casinos take it's turn and became the boom as obviously we are inside our home and can't go out to play on land base casinos. So everything shifts and even if we are back to normal again, there could be some of us who still living under the circumstances that we don't want to go out and play and socialized. But we wanted to want some outlet to steam our stress and so we chooses to play online. But it's very hard, because if we think about it, might be better to just go out with your friends as that what normal people do.

I believe gambling and alcoholic beverages are a little bit of different markets and in the most of the occasions they appeal to different kinds of clients.
So far, gambling has not replaced drinking as a social activity here in my country, workers seem to appreciate more the intoxicating effect of alcohol rather than the thrill inducing effect of gambling on the brain. Not even mentioning the fact there is easier to find a bar or pub here in my country than a casino. I don't see how that's going to be possible, social drinking might even be employed to escape the stress of online gambling in some cases so there is no replacing it, at least not like this, if you stopped going out with your friends then you've probably lost those friends to your gambling addiction and not because gambling has replaced drinking as a means to unwind in general, it's probably just a you thing and it's not a good thing.

There are gamblers who do not drink, and there are drinkers who do not gamble, and once you have the habit of drinking with your friends, I don't think you will replace it with gambling.

Social drinking creates a bond with your friends, and you love the feeling of getting drunk, which is very different from the highs of gambling; they are both different from each other and irreplaceable by one another.

Online gambling has done nothing about it because social drinking remains a way of bonding with friends and having memorable time with them, the ways of social drinking before and now is still the same but the only thing is that work has taking some persons to another state were they cannot just travel to have a fun with there friends so actually it becomes rare for the person except they have gotten another friends or they have to wait till holidays period before everybody will be back and have drinks together so actually gambling plays it roles differently that doesn't have to do with it.

Now those who have been addicted to gambling for a long time or are used to regular betting prefer to go to offline casino houses to gamble rather than online gambling. There they do gambling and drinking together. Apart from this, they keep chatting with friends and are connected to various types of entertainment activities. All these things are not available in the case of online gambling. Again, I have noticed one thing about those who gamble online, that is, if they win while gambling, they go to bars with friends to have fun and spend money.
