Who is the idiot that runs the @Bitcoin account on Twitter?



Its flat out stupid to use this account to push a political agenda.

Whoever it is isn't just making themselves look stupid, they're making all of us look stupid.

And retweeting JD Vance and the White House like somebody's drunk uncle... ugh.

I absolutely could do a better job with that account, yes.


Before this devolves into a political flame war: if you think my post has to do with one side of the US political divide or the other, you're missing the point, which is partisan politics should be left out of Bitcoin.

But the truth is unlike other Coins Bitcoin been decentralized doesn't really have an official twitter or X handle.

This is not the first time that account is posting something which is not related to Bitcoin or even some how connected to crypto currency, we just have to consider the account as another social medial handle which is controlled by someone who can publish anything just to get traffic and engagement, if it’s not for political influence narrative then it’s to get reward after all the account is monetized.

I was actually thinking that the original twitter account should have been connected to this forum and linked together with all other social media handles.
Of course it could be that the person who created that account is just running it for self interest and gains, I think people should be that careful as the purpose of bitcoin is not to start promoting political talks and activities.

This should not happen and if we look at it actually this is not the first time this bitcoin account has been used as if it supports something even though it should be with a logo and username that we know is neutral conditions like this should not happen.

It is a little regrettable that such a large account should be used as a source to make things that should not be mixed into one scope even though bitcoin remains bitcoin has nothing to do with politics or anything that smells of profit for individuals / groups but it seems that the account holder does not realize that.

I tend to agree above.

This shouldn't be posted by whoever manages that Bitcoin channel account on Twitter without explaining the relevance to Bitcoin, it's clearly partisan advocacy, which doesn't look good, or we may think an idiot that could also have an impact on the Bitcoin community.  Whoever manages that account might be an irresponsible person who could influence the Bitcoin community to mix up political issues.

The name that surfaces is Trace Mayer, although that's not confirmed. However, knowing that it has been jumping from one hand to another, it might be somebody else the next day.

Regardless, can we at least launch a drive to mass report this account? And for many reasons. In the first place, I wonder why it's verified when Bitcoin isn't officially owned, operated, managed, whatever by anybody. With millions of followers, that account is maliciously misleading the public while falsely claiming to be Bitcoin. 

Other than that, this account's track record has been awful--monetized probably for personal gains, promoting ads, used to promote a Bitcoin fork, sold, and so on. There's no reason why it shouldn't be taken down.

I remember that account used to post BCH stuff and mislead people into thinking Bitcoin actually refer to BCH. Now they don't even create Bitcoin or cryptocurrency related post.

Since few years ago, check mark no longer means verified. You could get mark by buying the paid subscription, although i don't know which tier that give the mark.

This is true, but it's still very embarrassing to be honest. I went through the profile, and all that is there is just partisan propaganda. Whoever is handling the account should know that Bitcoin does not belong to any party, race, or nationality. 
Things like this create a perception about Bitcoin for those who do not really understand it. That account was created in 2011, so a person who has been in Bitcoin since 2011 should know that Bitcoin is not affiliated with any political party, religion, race or nationality.
We may know that the account is not the official account of Bitcoin because Bitcoin has no official account, but what about the people who don't know? Won't that create a false narrative in their head about what Bitcoin stands for?

Is it not on social media that I see someone answering Jesus as their name, they post a different thing about what they feel like, not relating to Christendom. That exact thing happening to Bitcoin shouldn't be taken much meaning to, because anyone can name themselves Bitcoin on social media, and they stand to talk about a different thing. That's the social media life we are having ourselves in where anyone has the right to answer a name not pertaining to their meaning. We should disregard their post anyway because it doesn't make any meaning

I think the same. I don't think that there's an official Twitter account for Bitcoin and I think that someone just use the name Bitcoin for personal gain like paid adverts. If it's really the official bitcoin Twitter account then we would have known who Satoshi Nakamoto is rather than being anonymous. In my opinion, it is use since the Bitcoin has been popular these days even after surpassing the ATH before.

Everyone here should know that, and op was never insinuating that this was a BTC Twitter account. There is also no 'real BTC account'. This is just an account created by a clown and named @Bitcoin, in order to gain attention and impressions to their posts using the name BTC.

However, like i already said, i strongly believe most people should understand that their posts has nothing to do with the BTC network, which in itself is decentralized. It only represents the ideas of the poster themselves.

People who have a good understanding will understand that whatever political agenda being pushed from that account is not a general opinion held by all the other people who are investing in bitcoins. It is mostly the opinion of the handler of the account, who is obviously without control of what to post and what not to post.

I think that if it was a formal responsibility given to the handler of the account maybe by the real creators of bitcoin, they will be more cautious of what they post on the account.

The account has a lot of growth potential if only it could stick to Bitcoin-related posts. Hopefully, someone realizes this and makes an offer for the account. It would probably be worth $100,000+.

I would have thought that @Bitcoin is ran by the bitcoin.org people, but I don't see Cobra and company being unhinged like this (in so far as making political retweets on a Bitcoin account).

Bitcoin is a decentlized consensus with an open source that derives its events through the online and offline communities Speculations though might not literally be verified.

So there is no need for the panic over the news swinging in the air pertaining Bitcoin and it mechanisms when there is no official social or internet handle to handle Bitcoin news and updates.

Whoever that is making spreading Bitcoin informations whether about its price or mechanisms is liable not to be trusted because Bitcoin does not have an authority that we might be expecting from them to give an official Bitcoin news.

I think somebody just opened an account on Twitter with the username Bitcoin and has so far grown the account with so much followers couple with a verified tick on it. But if you follow it through with an investigate further, we will see who is truly behind the account given the fact that there is a verification already and verification on Twitter deals with you giving some means of identification. I've been seeing the account, and funny enough I follow it too on Twitter, the question of who operates it usually rings in mind head.

That account that has about 8.2M Followers has been fully politicised. I went through some tweets (from today till December) and observed that its political exposure started recently. The person running the account wants to turn it into another social media channel of the White House. Politicians are not members of the Bitcoin community because we don't have a similar agenda. Hence, such a platform should be apolitical.
