This is the problem you have with over zealous investors, they don't understand wetin dem call investment, dem think sey na where you go put money come dey chop am small small anytime wey you need  money, Bitcoin investment na investment wey you go prepare for because as you start am nothing go make you temper am  if not e don turn kalokalo for you because him go dey draw you everytime to spend from am, all you need to dey do na to dey buy bitcoin according to as your money reach small small wey nor go affect your monthly expenses.
Those people who sell from their bitcoin stash regularly are not overzealous investors, if anything they are unsteady investors ( if they can even be called investors) who are controlled by the market, they moment they see anything that looks like profit they sell because their mindset is about making quick profit, this is also why even though the price of bitcoin drops they will still sell claiming that they are already losing so best to sell quickly and cut their losses before they lose everything, these people definitely don't qualify to be called bitcoin investors.
Buying Bitcoin is easy, but it is difficult to maintain a long-term plan, patience and risk tolerance mindset, there are many who started investing with the intention of holding it for the long term, but their mindset changed and they started trying to achieve success through short-term trading. The most important thing in long-term investing is to be disciplined with your plan, not to react emotionally to every market fluctuation, and a real investor can be stable in any situation and remain steadfast on your plan.

The main strength of long-term investing in Bitcoin is patience, discipline and consistency. You have to stick to your research, your plan and your risk management, you cannot destroy your goal by panicking due to instability. And to do this, you have to completely ignore the fear that arises in you due to greed, emotion and instability and keep yourself stable. Without consistency and uninterrupted holding, it is not an investment.

Like I already said, the loan isn't going to be paid off from their bitcoin investment but instead from their discretionary income,,

You’re saying a loan should be paid off from a person’s discretionary income instead of from their bitcoin investment as if that will reduce the risk involved in borrowing a loan to invest. That will only change where the risk is coming from but it doesn’t eliminate the risks.

As long as the loan still exist, it’s repayment has to be made regardless of whether the person’s income stays the same or not; this means that even though the person’s financial situation happens to change unexpectedly, the obligation to repay the loan doesn’t disappear.
I'm not talking about the risk involved, there is not denying that taking a loan to invest in bitcoin comes with risks, but there is risk with or without the loan and if you plan it out well enough then the risk added by the low can be properly managed, you can't condemn an act simply because it's risky, if that was the way to do things then bitcoin investment itself would be too risky.
So yes I'm saying that the payment of the loan should be made from the discretionary income and not from the bitcoin investment, not because the risk is reduced but because that's what's realistic, you can preach about ideals however much you want but reality doesn't always agree with ideals and it's too unrealistic to want to pay off a loan used for bitcoin investment from the same bitcoin investment so as long as the loan exists it will be repaid but just not from our investment.
bitcoin investment is long term so the very idea of even paying off the loan from the investment is already unrealistic,

If a person is borrowing a loan with the intention of paying it off from the bitcoin investment, then i don’t think they should be borrowing loans in the first place, it is not for them.
I agree completely, there is no reason to take a loan to invest in bitcoin if you are planning on paying for that loan from your bitcoin investment, best to stick to a realistic approach.
but the person might be generating discretionary income weekly or monthly depending on the individual and a person having their backup funds in place doesn't mean they were saving to buy bitcoin, your emergency fund aside there are other reasons why s person will have their reserve fund in place.

Perhaps you’re right that people may have different reasons for keeping reserve funds, it might be for a future expense, a business opportunity, or just to have some kind of extra financial cushion, so it might not make sense for them to dip their hands into it and use it to invest but that doesn’t make borrowing a better alternative.

Deciding not to use your reserve funds is one thing, deciding to borrow a loan is another thing.
The real question you should be asking yourself is whether paying interest and taking on a fixed repayment obligation is worth it when you could just have been building your bitcoin position gradually with your discretionary income.

Keeping your reserve funds is probably a sensible idea but it does not automatically justify you replacing it with leverage.
So would you rather use money meant for something else to buy bitcoin simply because you don't agree with the idea of using a loan to buy bitcoin? If you are not comfortable with using a loan then don't use it but don't go diverting money meant for something else to invest in bitcoin simply because you don't want to use a loan, even though we use our discretionary income to invest in bitcoin it's still smart to keep it within what you can tolerate, if you don't have any fund reserved for buying bitcoin (which you could just use for buying instead of saving it) then don't use the money reserved for something else.

Your friend wants to invest but he wasn't ready emotionally and maybe he wasn't informed properly on how Bitcoin investments works and maintaining a long term investment especially Bitcoin is very difficult and that's what everyone that is investing should know, you need to be risk tolerance and be always ready for the worst . It's not just your friend I have seen people that also started as long term investors but couldn't keep up because of panic and honestly it's very much understandable and even in investments there are losses too sometimes so I let people do what works for them.

What stops him from doing a quick research to know what the investment is all about, people who have discretionary funds and have made up their mind concerning longevity in the investment won't be worried about volatility. If the difficulty in Bitcoin investment you're talking about is having patience to hold longer then the person is never ready for it.

Although figuring out the amount of discretionary funds to be used can be tough for some people especially beginners but it's not a big deal cause every individual should learm how to manage their cash flow and channel money into an investment based on what's left after settling essentials. Well people who tend to lose track of keeping up with holding still fall back to it with time after they've figured it's the only way they can invest properly to meet their target.

It's proper that research should come before investing, but I also think knowledge alone isn't enough. Many people understand Bitcoin's fundamentals yet still panic during a 30–50% drawdown because emotions often override logic when real money is involved.
That's why beginners should prepare both financially and emotionally. Investing only discretionary funds, having a long-term horizon, and using a disciplined DCA strategy can reduce the temptation to make emotional decisions.and less u know Patience isn't something that appears overnight either. It's built through experience, continuous learning, and investing amounts you can genuinely afford to leave untouched.

So simply put, resist the urge to sell when you see the slightest sign of profit and also when you feel like you might end up losing, your greed and your fear shouldn't be what pushes your choices as an investor, I completely agree that being emotional as a bitcoin investor will almost always lead to regret in the long run, to be able to buy and hold no matter how the market looks an investor needs to discipline themselves and keep their emotions completely under their own control,as long as you are in charge of your own emotions and you have the discretionary income to buy with then you can buy and hold bitcoin.

There is no need for additional research before investing. If someone has discretionary income, then he will start and at the same time he will have enough time to do research. If the mandatory condition of doing research before investing is given, it may seem like a condition for waiting for beginners at the beginning. Additional research regarding Bitcoin can often be an excuse not to start. If someone has general knowledge and discretionary income, then he can start without hesitation. If he is not yet aware of security, wallet, self-custody, then he can start from the exchange. Then when he is ready enough, he will transfer to his own wallet. Waiting should not be a cause of regret later.

Bitcoin investment isn't something you should rush into. Even though time is important, investors should first have a basic understanding of what they're getting into. By research, I don't mean mastering every technical aspect of Bitcoin before buying. I mean understanding the fundamentals—knowing that Bitcoin is a volatile asset, learning about the risks involved, and being aware of both the positive and negative experiences of other investors.
My point is that even with this basic knowledge and enough discretionary income, some people still panic and sell because they weren't psychologically prepared for market volatility. That's why emotional discipline is just as important as financial knowledge. Understanding that investing involves risk and proper risk management is what helps investors stay committed during difficult market conditions.

You've made some good points but you don't need to know about other people experience before you can start buying bitcoin, if you are looking for experience then get yours by starting your own journey, people talk about emotional discipline a lot and while I support that it's something every bitcoin investor should have I would also argue that actually starting to buy bitcoin using a tolerable amount of your discretionary income and then experiencing these ups and downs of bitcoin is the way to go in finding out how disciplined you are and how likely you are to keep buying and to keep holding even when the market looks unfriendly.

For those who are new to Bitcoin investment in this forum let me refer you to this thread JJG's Outline on Bitcoin Investment Ideas here is the link https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5376945.msg58719584#msg58719584

Yes, for every investment is good to do your research, also in crypto but when it comes to bitcoin the advice is to use you discretionary funds to invest. As long as you have the general knowledge required for bitcoin investment just invest and know that it is for long term not short term. As you are investing you are also doing your research on how best to store your bitcoin and keep it save. Because everyone can't be an expert when it comes to bitcoin investment but the necessary knowledge is enough for you to start investing

Why shouldn't any bitcoin investor use his reserve funds to buy bitcoin during the dip to boost up his bitcoin portfolio when that's one of the uses of reserve funds. Reserve funds is flexible because it's no am emergency funds. You can use your reserve funds to buy bitcoin during the dip to mix it up with your ongoing DCA.

You can use reserve funds to take care of any real emergency that play out before tapping from your emergency funds if it's not enough. You can use your reserve funds to fix your car if it broke down unexpectedly. You can even use it to go and eat in an expensive restaurant. Personally, I feel using part of it to buy bitcoin when there's a dip is a good thing provided you refill it back when you can.

First of all, You have shifted my discussion from whether borrowing loans is a better alternative to whether reserves funds can be used to buy bitcoin; it’s not clicking at all.

And i sure as hell never said you can’t use your reserve funds to buy bitcoin.
My point was that if someone has a good reason for not wanting to use their reserve funds to buy bitcoin, it doesn’t still justify borrowing loan to invest in bitcoin.
They can simply wait till they have fresh discretionary income to use in investing instead of compelling themselves to either dip hands into their reserve fund or take out a debt.

People keep their reserve funds for different purposes you know, and it’s not like reserve funds only have one single purpose because by its definition, it is flexible and that flexibility means that the owner gets to decide what it is reserved for and what it will be used for.

A person can intentionally set it aside for a future expense, a business opportunity just for the sake of strengthening their financial position.
In that instance, if it happens that the person decides not to use it to buy bitcoin then it’s a valid decision, you can’t arrest them for that now, can you ?

Personal experience helps too, but that does not mean that we should ignore the experience of those that have gone through different market cycle. We don’t have to learn every lesson the hard way before we learn our own. Besides, It is a plus for us if we can learn from their mistakes. Their experience can help us avoid making the same one during our accumulation journey

Discipline does not start after you buy Bitcoin, but before you invest. It comes from having a plan, knowing the risks, and only investing money you can afford to lose. Price fluctuations only test one’s discipline, they don’t create it.

It's proper that research should come before investing, but I also think knowledge alone isn't enough. Many people understand Bitcoin's fundamentals yet still panic during a 30–50% drawdown because emotions often override logic when real money is involved.

Well said, knowledge alone isn’t enough for a successful long term investment but it helps to build the confidence and other skills needed for the success.

And yes I emphasize the importance of research before starting any investment.. in this advance digital era we are living I see no reason why someone wouldn’t research before he starts an investment. Research about the intended investment might be for just few hours and if you’re committed to start the investment then you’ll learn a lot in that short time that would save you when you start the investment.

Of course some people would say the emphasis on research is an excuse but believe me it is not, you must not learn everything on your first research but you should atleast learn the fundamentals from security to history and then after you start your investments you can continue learning the advance stuffs one at a time. This would really help.

Patience isn’t learned by just reading books on “how to be patient”… patience is built and that’s why you should understand yourself, know your emotional weaknesses and build an investment strategy or system that best fit you, if you want to really invest long term especially in  volatile markets like bitcoin..

Borrowing to invest in bitcoin is like a time bomb and explodes when you least expect it. One has to get above investing beyond his forfeitable cash, hence the reason it's almost impossible to justify borrowing to invest in bitcoin because no one would attempt forfeiting a loan which entails that you certainly get fixed to your portfolio to a larger extent. There's no better way of doing it when you borrow to invest even though when a dude has an alternative plans to use and pay his loan outside his bitcoin investment, then he may attempt it: this still doesn't justify borrowing to invest.

When you borrow and invest, even when you have an alternative arrangement to pay up the debt, it seems more difficult to get such portfolio off your head and this influences how long such a person can hold his bitcoin. It's better to wait until you've had your Discretionary income before you invest, Moreover what else can make a person rush into borrowing money to invest in bitcoin if not for the fear of missing out which is already not an advisable practice.

Yeah sure, no one is to be told on how to spend his reserved funds since bitcoin is not the only need a person may want to solve so it shouldn't be seen like reserved funds is strictly for bitcoin buys. This fund can even be used to augment your back up and/or emergency funds when you envisage a more serious emergency situation or you already found yourself in it.

Many people know before investing that its price is relatively volatile and after knowing everything, when an investor actually faces a 30 to 50 percent price drop in their investment, their emotions can affect their rationality and many people panic when they actually face risks. That is, knowing everything and dealing with it in reality are two different things. Therefore, along with having knowledge, a practical mindset is needed. How much risk is an investor capable of taking? And how much is an investor ready to accept if he is actually damaged or exposed to risk despite having theoretical knowledge. It is reasonable to invest continuously without showing excessive attitude or reaction to short-term fluctuations and when a decline comes, one should be patient without getting emotional. Only those who can remember that in order to continue investing in the long term, one must deal with volatility and fluctuations and maintain this mentality are able to maintain it. And remain steadfast in their plans even in the midst of volatility.

I share your view dude, you have touched on something very important that a lot of new investors overlook. While it’s good to learn from experience of other people, but there’s part that’s very important, where you have to start your own journey, because there’s no need to delay buying bitcoin until you feel you have to know everything, there’s some experience that can only being learned by being in the market yourself. Because as price rises and falls, you begin to understand your own emotions and level of discipline, because it’s easy to say you will hold through volatility, but you don’t truly understand until you are living through it. I believe that the best way to develop emotional discipline is to participating in the market, by start with small amounts of discretionary income that you can be comfortable afford and giving yourself time to grow, because every market movement teaches something different and those experiences  gradually build conviction needed to keep holding.

I was just wondering what one need experience for in bitcoin investment, is bitcoin investment a work where employers are looking for a skilled  or experienceed personal? there is no need for experience in bitcoin investment, what someone need is the basic knowledge on how they can open or create a wallet, deposit, buy and also learn how to secure their wallet because once someone gets your seed phrase everything in that wallet will be wipe out and lastly, someone need to have the long term goal because bitcoin isn't an asset you can buy today and be expecting profit the next day.

What you have pointed out doesn't really fall into the category of basic knowledge, a newbie who wants to start investing in bitcoin doesn't need to know about securing their asset behind a seed phrase before they can start buying bitcoin even though it would be a plus for an investor, it is not a criteria for being able to start investing and neither is experience needed before we start as well, but the moment you start buying bitcoin and you hold through price changes you are already building your own experience so even though you didn't need it to start it will definitely be a part of your journey.

Those who really want to invest in Bitcoin can easily start investing very quickly with a general idea and then with the continuity of investment, they can learn more about Bitcoin, everything and as much as they want to go deeper.

To start investing, a person needs common sense and common sense may not say that a person needs to know much except calculating discretionary income. If a person can manage their financial situation properly and if he is able to find a source of discretionary income then he can definitely start investing without waiting for 2 to 3 days.

Starting investing is the most important thing and after starting investing a person can learn about investing and other things. For example, after starting investing he can gain knowledge related to Bitcoin and learn how to protect his investment. It is not necessary to know many things about common sense if you can calculate discretionary income then you can start investing

If I have failed to explain to you then you can read this comment of JayJuanGee sir, I hope you will be able to understand

In order to start investing in bitcoin all you need is discretionary funds.

There is no need to add additional and vague ideas about supposed "basic knowledge" that is needed since guys can use their own judgement figure out what they need or don't need as long as they have discretionary funds, they can get started buying bitcoin.

They can also learn whatever they need to learn as they are starting to buy bitcoin on a regular basis, perhaps weekly?
