Investing becomes gambling when you stop using research and instead rely purely on luck quick short term profits

Even in gambling, sports betting to be precise, you get to do your research lost of the time, if you are a concerned gambler at all. You’ve got stats to look at and make informed analysis.

So if I'm investing in bitcoin I need to constantly be making research on bitcoin investment else I might risk losing everything? I'm not even sure where you are getting this idea from but it's completely false, you are not even arguing for research before investing which is still not necessary but is way more plausible than what you are saying, an investor can decide to not have to research on bitcoin and just keep buying with their discretionary income and holding after already taking the necessary measures they don't end up losing their bitcoin, continuous research is not at all necessary.

When you are investing for the purpose of holding for a long time, you don’t really have to do a lot of research on that. If you know how to buy, secure and have patience, you just might be all geared up.

If you are a trader, then it’s a whole different game entirely. You get to research on news, do technical analysis, fundamental analysis and just whatever it would take to ensure you make the right entry and exit, you don’t get to gamble that.

Investing becomes gambling when you stop using research and instead rely purely on luck quick short term profits or intense emotions no research buying a random asset just because the price is moving fast high risk chasing fast lottery style wins example investing buying shares of a strong company and holding them for years to earn profit truth at long time investment

Exactly, when you stop making research, your funds become uncontrollable, and you can’t predict anything good, because you’re not making any good decisions, and you will lose everything. Gamblers are deciding before staking a bet, but when you don’t make research on your investment, I mean what you’re trying to invest, it will surely become unverified, and that is high risk on investment. Making good research about your investment will make you face challenges, and know what can probably comes next and achieve your goal on your investment journey.

Who told you that through research you can be able to predict Bitcoin?  Not only that you're still comparing Bitcoin to gamble. Gambling is far different from Bitcoin investment so don't even in any way try to compare them together, as for the research i don't see that thing that is too hard that you will be making different research, the reason why it is advice to make our own personal research is to be sure of what they taught you because some person might be giving you the wrong information and there's no way you would find out if you don't make research or ask someone who have a better knowledge about Bitcoin investment.
It is reasonable to view research as a basis for your own decisions, not as a tool for prediction. Even analyzing various market fundamentals, it is not possible to say with certainty where the price will go in the future. The main purpose of research should be to consider how the asset you are investing in works, what its risks are, and how strong the logic behind your decision is. It is not appropriate to directly equate Bitcoin with gambling. Bitcoin is an asset . and gambling is essentially a method of betting on uncertain outcomes. However  if someone blindly invests money in Bitcoin based on short-term price fluctuations , their behavior can become like gambling.  The comparison is more reasonable to make not between Bitcoin and gambling, but rather between a person's behavior and risk-taking approach.

I completely agree with your statement, especially that it is not appropriate to directly compare Bitcoin to gambling, with the statement that Bitcoin is an asset.

There is no way to deny that there is a risk in the price of Bitcoin fluctuating. But just because something is risky or price fluctuates does not make it gambling. In gambling your profit basically depends on someone else's loss and the outcome of the game is uncertain. But Bitcoin is a digital asset that has its own scarcity network liquidity and global market. There is no way to deny that its price is volatile. But volatility and gambling are not the same thing. If you look at the stock market, gold or real estate, their prices also fluctuate over time. Gambling is a game where no long-term value is created and at the end of the day the Casino wins. But Bitcoin is a mathematically secure, decentralized and fixed supply digital asset.

If you buy Bitcoin by making regular DCA from your discretionary income, excluding your essential expenses, and hold it for the long term, you are not gambling, you are investing in an asset for the future.

You may be failing to understand the difference between research and knowledge. To invest, a person does not need to do any kind of research on Bitcoin and the Bitcoin market. If a person has basic knowledge about Bitcoin, then he can definitely start investing without doing any research.

It will be a very difficult decision for an investor to profit from investment without knowledge. Although there is no certainty of profit, but if a person can hold on for a long time, then his chances of profiting are much higher. But a person who starts investing only with basic knowledge will definitely not be able to take measures in advance to deal with later problems. Start investing with basic knowledge and continue investing and gaining knowledge as you start investing. Not much knowledge is required to start investing, but knowledge is very important for holding on for a long time.

For an investor not to become a gambler, he needs to hold unto his coin and keep accumulating for a long term of 4-10 years and above, because Bitcoin is designed for long term and not a short term.

Accumulation of Bitcoin is done basically for investment and for gambling when you start selling at any point on time that you need funds in other to meet up your expenses makes you a gambler which is not good for any investor or bitcoin community at large.
The advice you have given to hold and accumulate Bitcoin for 4-10 years or more is really great as a long-term perspective.
But I cannot agree with your last point at all. The idea that someone becomes a gambler by selling Bitcoin for family needs does not seem reasonable to me in any way. Suppose an ordinary employee or a person with a limited income started buying Bitcoin with a 4-10 year mindset. He also had his own emergency fund or backup fund. But no one can predict in advance what situations will arise in a person's life. Suddenly he or his family faces a major crisis or medical emergency where even after all the money in his emergency fund is gone a huge amount of money is still needed. Now he has two options open to him.

take a loan at high interest or borrow from someone whose installments will be an extreme mental and financial burden on his limited salary for years to come.Or to get out of this crisis by breaking his own Bitcoin. Now tell me if this man breaks his Bitcoin portfolio or sells his accumulated coins to escape from the crisis by breaking his life destroying high interest debt did he become a gambler?
Not at all. Rather Bitcoin acted as a financial life saver or shield for him and his family. We invest in Bitcoin so that in times of danger we do not have to touch anyone or take loans at high interest rates.

Gamblers are those who bet on trading charts without any risk management in the hope of 10x or 100x profit. But using your hard-earned wealth to protect your family in times of danger is not gambling this is the real value of wealth accumulation

Guys should not be investing into bitcoin with amounts of money they need for expenses, and sometimes it can be difficult to determine if a guy might have had been investing too much into bitcoin, since he does not have enough money to cover the various basic needs.

Sure, none of us, pro-bitcoin folks, want to discourage buying bitcoin, yet sometimes guys might not have enough income to be able to put money into bitcoin, and they have to figure out how to increase their income and/or decrease their expenses.

And, yeah, if it appears that guys are using money that they need for their basic expenses, then it can seem like trading and/or gambling... even though sometimes the future shortages of income and/or increases in expenses may well been unforeseeable.
Exactly, nobody likes to discourage anyone no to invest into bitcoin, but that is an very important point, no one should ignore the financial, because bitcoin can be a very good long term investment, but just because you want to invest into bitcoin shouldn’t stop someone from being unable to take care of basic needs, Even the investment won’t move as you expect. I think the best approach is not to more but to improve your finances by increasing your income, and try building some backup funds very necessary.

Some folks can be struggling after investing, I think we shouldn’t judge them so quick, because things can change unexpectedly, maybe they are facing high expenses or losing of income, but the focus should be, we should buy bitcoin in such a way that will improve our financial position not us to struggling to survive.

The most important thing before anyone can start accumulating bitcoin is discretionary income. Those that are not able to figure out there discretionary income are not supposed to invest in bitcoin because they don't have what it takes to invest in bitcoin. We should attend to our needs first and whatever we have left after that is what should be invested in bitcoin.
There are people that make the mistake of using all their discretionary income to buy bitcoin when they have no backup funds, this approach is wrong because when an emergency occurs or unexpected needs arises, they will either fall back to there bitcoin investment or will be struggling financially. So aside investing with discretionary income there is need to always have a backup funds that will protect our investment and also for us not to put ourselves into financial pressures.

Bitcoin itself being an asset and a person doing investment behavior with Bitcoin are not the same thing. The same Bitcoin can be accumulated by someone with long-term discretionary funds, while someone can use it with short-term price bets, necessary expenses or additional risk in a way that practically goes towards trading or gambling. I agree with your central point that it is not right to use Bitcoin's volatility as a definition of gambling. But people can use this price volatility in such a way that they are betting with it. The thing is that in some cases a person buys bitcoin for $100 thinking that the price will increase by 20% in the coming week and he will sell it. he is trading on an uncertain thing by predicting it. And if you buy bitcoin with this kind of mindset, then there is a high possibility of loss. Although bitcoin as an asset cannot be anything like gambling. But the wrong behavior in the investment becomes like gambling.

How do we view research as a basis of our own decision? You are sounding a bit confused I mean is it not through research and analysis one can be able to predict where the price of Bitcoin will be heading to? Regardless of the fact that gambling is very risky, one needs to research and also analyze the chart thoroughly before executing any plan. Anyone who invest in Bitcoin for short is already a trader and not an investor so  there's nothing like they will be acting like a gambler.

I get your point, bitcoin is a very good long time investment but it never advisable to invest when you are struggling, that is why it is constantly sung that we should always invest with your discretionary income. We know a lot people get super excited about investing, especially when they think about the possible returns, but then we should always remember our basis expenses.

So I get your point, we should always invest in bitcoin in such a way that it will improve financial situation not to put in danger. So invest in bitcoin, but it with your discretionary income.

you don't need to study charts or even analyse the market before you buy bitcoin. It is only when you are planning to outsmart the market by buying at a desired price which is not possible that is when analysing or studying of charts should be considered important. But for someone that is using DCA strategy to accumulate bitcoin there is no need for them to stress themselves by trying to analyse or go through charts before buying bitcoin. Another thing is , long term investors are not supposed to be using this strategy because it won't make them to be consistent with bitcoin accumulation. It is only those that are after quick profit that will consider such strategy.

Even if you are making researches and analysing the market you can't still know what the price of bitcoin will next be and making these researches won't help you instead it will still delay your bitcoin investment.

If you want to buy bitcoin and hold for long you don't need analysing the market and making researches, just start buying bitcoin if you have your discretionary income, dcaing regularly by buying bitcoin regardless of the price, which will also enable you not be monitoring the market to know where the price is before you can buy.

I think we should just do whatever we think will make bitcoin investment easier for us as individual and I'm saying this because because I can see that some people will only ever see the truth when they experience it themselves.
Anyone who really wants to invest in bitcoin and has their discretionary income figured out will already start buying without having to wait to learn more first. Anyone who chooses to wait and learn more first will find out it wasn't necessary and at the end of the day will still start accumulating bitcoin if they really want to. It's only those who didn't really plan on buying that will spend all that time and then end up not buying bitcoin anymore.

Regardless of the fact that gambling is very risky, one needs to research and also analyze the chart thoroughly before executing any plan. Anyone who invest in Bitcoin for short is already a trader and not an investor so  there's nothing like they will be acting like a gambler.

You are contradicting yourself. Because one moment you are saying that market analysis and research cannot tell where the price of Bitcoin will go and the next moment you are saying that thorough research and analysis is required before investing in Bitcoin. There is no need to analyze or research to invest in Bitcoin. The most important step is to start investing and if you have a source of discretionary income then you can start investing. If a person is able to find or calculate the source of discretionary income through proper financial management then he can start investing and continue to gain knowledge.

A trader needs to do market analysis and research but an investor never needs to do market analysis or research. An investor can find discretionary income and start investing and after starting he can gain knowledge and take all the necessary steps.

I don’t really understand your statements, that will force me to ask you this question, are you talking about bitcoin ? Perhaps making research is something that I’m just concerned about, you don’t need to make research before you can start investing in bitcoin, all you have to do is having an income, from your income you’ve to figure out your discretionary income when you’ve taken care of your needs and wants whatever is necessary for you to take care of.

You absolutely don’t have to verify anything, unless you’re a trader that is interested in speculating about the price of bitcoin, looking for quick profits which is a very dangerous way of starting bitcoin investment, because you definitely stand more chance of loosing out as a trader.

What you need to get prepared for whatever challenges that will come as you continue making investment is having a backup funds which comprises of your emergency funds and reserved funds this is what will enable you stay aware should any external financial situation arises, or any unforeseen circumstances arise, you can also enlighten me more about what you meant by making all this research you’re talking about.

Crypto investments can turn gambling at any time and this is why investors need to be reliable when involving themselves in any kind of investment. Those that are gambling with their investments may not understand what true investing means to them.
Bitcoin investment can be done in any way that will help us to buy gradually without trying to buy and sell and buy again and sell again due to their reasoning of how they see the  investment.

I agree to what you said here, there’s a saying experience is the best teacher,it's know that no matter the research, what you've experienced gives more knowledge and better understanding, also Derekfunds, you saying research helps one predit where the price of bitcoin is heading to,what do you mean because bitcoin is volatile and there can be upturn and downturn, especially as someone who want to go into bitcoin investment, i think no matter the research you make, without experience you can't be able predict or have insight on how or where bitcoin heading to.

Also i think making research to know or predict where bitcoin is heading to before buying is a step a gambler will take and not an investor because trying to research just to predict cound mean that you are trying to avoid the risk of a downturn after investment or buying bitcoin while investors takes the risk of course because it's a long term investment and it's done with discretionary funds too so the fear of downturn isn't there.

Even if you are making researches and analysing the market you can't still know what the price of bitcoin will next be and making these researches won't help you instead it will still delay your bitcoin investment.

If you want to buy bitcoin and hold for long you don't need analysing the market and making researches, just start buying bitcoin if you have your discretionary income, dcaing regularly by buying bitcoin regardless of the price, which will also enable you not be monitoring the market to know where the price is before you can buy.

if someone feels that they need to research or analyse the market in other to be able to predict the correct entry price , this is wrong because know amount of research or analysis can make us to know or predict correctly the price of bitcoin in the future. I believe an investor that is ongoing or continuously accumulating bitcoin can decide to research more or learn more about bitcoin. The motive maybe to expand their knowledge as they continue with their bitcoin accumulation and not because they want to predict the future price of bitcoin.

Crypto investment? Take care to be specific about what you are talking about, it may not have been in the title but this is a bitcoin thread so using generalizing words like crypto doesn't serve any purpose, when talking about bitcoin it's best to use BITCOIN,  this way people know what you are talking about and no one gets confused.
Bitcoin investment can be done in any way that will help us to buy gradually without trying to buy and sell and buy again and sell again due to their reasoning of how they see the  investment.
Buying and holding is the way to go if you want to be a bitcoin investor. You won't see anyone investor buying only to sell in order to buy again, it's a wrong practice.
Also make sure to buy with money you can afford to lose, bitcoin investment is a long term investment but it also doesn't guarantee you success so to be able to hold for as long as is necessary without having to worry about losing out is to invest with your discretionary income and with only the part of your discretionary income that you can afford to lose.

Even with research you will find that you still don't be able to predict how the price of bitcoin will move and frankly there is no need for someone who has the intention of buying and holding for long to be trying to predict the price of bitcoin in order to buy.
Even when buying the DIP there is no reason for you to try to and predict for when to buy, you can be buying with the DCA and take advantage of a dip when it happens, no need trying to predict it.

Such correction have been made already on this thread and even in this forum as a whole. A lot of people tends to refer to bitcoin as cryptocurrency, such it a crypto assets but being specific makes it more understanding for who ever you addressing. So let not get newbies confused, let make them know that investing in crypto is not as the same as investing in Bitcoin.

So when referring to bitcoin we should be specific and say Bitcoin, and when referring to other cryptocurrencies we can just as Atlcoin. With that there is clarity to whoever is reading or explaining to.
