What tools/apps would help Bitcointalk grow and improve user experience?

Hello everyone,

We’re looking to develop a tool or service that complements Bitcointalk. Our goal is to help improve user experience and overall forum features/usability.

We’d really appreciate community input:

• What tools does Bitcointalk need?
• What problems do users (especially new ones) face?
• What would make the forum easier or better to use?

An idea of ours would be an online bbcode previewer but it's not really that useful since users can already preview their posts here + there are some other previewers available (however we noticed they have a lot of bugs and old/bad UI/UX)

How do you plan to 'complement' bitcointalk? Through extentions?

You can read this thread - Little things that bug you/me about the forum. Users reply there with fixes and recommendations to make forum use better for them, PowerGlove creates some code for that and passes it through theymos who then decides to add it to the forum software or not. You can use that as info the guide you on what community users are thinking.

There are lots of tools created for the forum already and maybe even enough, but there is no need to discourage anyone wanting to do something for the forum.

You have to do the research yourself and take your time to go through the meta board at large. You should find so many threads about  useful tools created for the forum.

I tried helping but I couldn't find a single thread that listed them. I am not sure if one is available, but you should get comments about it from others if there are existing threads.

A tool that quickly detects if a post is AI generated would be good, some members are very comfortable using AI to write a thread and replies to any topic they like to reply to, they don't even mention if the idea they are writing on is theirs or was gotten from AI. So, it can be helpful to quickly identify if a post is AI generated on not with the help of a forum tool.
The forum is easy to use for anyone, reading through topics and writing your opinion is very simple and not so sophisticated here, you can write comment on any thread.

The forum has been worked upon and is being worked upon by some gurus, so it's not redundant. But, of course, there's a room for improvements, and if you can help further, it would be nice. Above all, what the forum really need is a general overhauling, which has been suspended indefinitely.

In the absence of that, Auto-Save function when you type will be a very good addition. I've mentioned this a few times, but nothing has been done about it.

Aside from that, a full transition from the SMF software to the anticipated modern EpochTalk suppose to fix everything else.

What tools does Bitcointalk need?

I think most Bitcointalk users want to have fully responsive mobile website version.
There was already some attempts from community members, and they all have pros and cons.
I would also like the option to totally hide and remove boards I don't use.

What problems do users (especially new ones) face?

They either don't read the forum rules, or they start spamming because they want to rank up quickly.
Newbies should understand there are some limitations for new accounts.

What would make the forum easier or better to use?

This is the same as my first version, mobile version of bitcointalk forum.

This should be a challenge that in our own way, we can also suggest or develop something that others can benefit the way we are enjoying from what some have taken their time to build, this may not come as easy task to build a tool or app for the benefits of others, but it's more of a commitment to ensure others benefit the same course of what we do.

I would add hyperlink that can help users to understand arguments related and how they can dig a specific item.
Most of the times topic are connected, provide even more details or similar situation...
Of course not a random one, but a real system adopted by user with suggestions/and wiki comment.

For sure the forum by itself has this old looking style... It cant be done nothing to have something more actual like social networks...

Op I think what @seriouslyGiveaway have show hope will give you more experience when you go through the link gradually and you can learn something in the link thread.  By checking it gradually you can bring up some of your experience you have and that will definitely benefit the bitcointalk members, because we learn different things every day, and if you can bring new site to make thing easier again we will all appreciate because no one is perfect the more we're growing that is how things are getting changing everyday.

Newbies doesn't have any technical challenges issues that will demand for intervention of technicians, the only challenges Newbies always have, is spamming, low quality post, plagiarism and use of  chatGPT

Is to follow the rules and regulations of the forum, any technical issues should be left for forum technical team.

I like bitcointalk as it is, it is one of the last remaining, active old school forums around. I don’t think it needs uber modern, interactive tools and add ons.

This place is full of history, to totally change it from what it was when the great satoshi posted here would be disappointing imo.

In addition...no one who has seen forum and reject it, most of people i have encountered that lost interest at forum, did end up without a cogent reason

Neither health status that made leave or they committed a crime, forum is a nice place where history is been told for free and also were valuable information will be obtain for free

So many of us can't leave from because the communication in forum is been gotten for free.

The forum doesn't really need to rely much on external tools but some tools can be helpful. I believe a plagiarism checker can be a very useful tool as it will help users to find posts that are copy/pasted from somewhere else.

Of course if someone makes a solution to improve the look and UI of the forum that will also be appreciated by some users. It really depends on the needs of a user, for me the forum works pretty well the way it is.

They can use AI but except if you go farther by using posting bot for directly posting with AI-generated contents, they will still need to manually copy and paste contents generated by AI into this forum. Using AI, without announcement that it is AI-created content will be another type of plagiarism.

Even with old plagiarism style, the forum rule and permanent ban on plagiarism violation has become very lenient recent years. The appearance and abuse growth of AI use in this forum only makes rule enforcement against plagiarism more lenient. It no longer need a single post or two posts with plagiarism to ban an account, and it needs more like dozens of plagiarism and many reports from forum community for moderator to ban accounts.

It's about forum enforcement and ban on these users but users do it by realizing that they can fish merit from AI created posts. If there is no more or very little merit sent to AI created posts, they will less abuse AI for posting in this forum.

I think it's pretty much an impossible task if you consider quoting, editing quotes, deleting parts of quoted posts, and working with multiquotes on a phone. Highlighting/selecting text, adding BBcode tags, etc. You would need to develop something that makes this as easy on a phone with your fingers as it is on a computer with a mouse and keyboard. I don't see that happening.

I have been using this forum on mobile since day one, it's fully responsive and have never ever for once felt the need of 'mobile version'; though, as I have read some comments here, some find it hard to edit multiple quotes on mobile but it's more about getting used to imo.

I don't know if it's as easy people do with mouse-keyboard, but all of that can be done on mobile, and the more you do it, the easier it gets.
