Hello everyone,

I recently started a thread about ways to improve user experience in the forum. User @FirmWars replied with a nice idea about creating an AI Detector for the forum, since most nowadays are heavily inspired by AI, which is not something bad, but sometimes good to know about.

So our team created this free extension, using Winston AI, to enable users to quickly scan a post in just one click.





Keep in mind the project is in beta phase. If you find any bugs you are welcome to report them!

Is this extension available for Mozilla Firefox, or only for Chrome browser?
I would also suggest releasing this as user script that can be installed from Tampermonkey,  Greasemonkey or Violentmonkey.
You can also enable web version for people who want to scan only individual posts, or all posts from specific members.

Wow it's a good idea to detect AI post through an extension. But the question is does your extension accurately detect AI content? You know sometimes a proper AI detector makes mistake by detecting a human written content as an AI content.
Can we switch between AI detectors to use their features? If not I hope you can add those features that way it would be helpful for this forum.

How accurate or how much trust do you have on the AI model you use to detect other AI write up because most AIs are so advance that it's hard to identify if they are AI generated. Futhermore, it's a good one but then I'm not a fan of Extension which means I'm probably not going to text it out.

I don't know if anyone is curious how much safe are this extensions for the forum? because some could have been contaminated with crypto monitoring codes that can detect stuffs but we might not pay attention to such.

Yes our extension uses one of the leading AI detectors in the world. But of course, in our website we mention everywhere that this tool doesn't accuse anyone of using AI. It's just an estimation. It's AI and it can make mistakes... like every AI does. Currently we do not support switching between providers, but we may add that soon! Thank you for your feedback and interest.

Some of them claimed the texts were written by AI, when in fact they were not. Anyway, I don’t trust these tools and I believe they are only useful for very basic checks and end up creating confusion. After all, a text written by AI is quite easy to recognize and doesn’t even require any kind of tool.

Thank you for your feedback. Definitely all the AI tools nowadays are improving exponentially. We state everywhere that the scans are just estimations. As per your statement, did you happen to submit short inputs to those tools? They usually don't work well that way (some don't even allow those types of scans). That's why we allow scans over 300 characters.

Yeah, AI detection tools can be inaccurate since they are just detecting patterns in texts that an AI would usually generate. When you use these tools, what were the percentage of the texts you submit were AI-generated? In this thread(AI Spam Report Reference Thread), for a text to be considered as generated by AI, it has to be at least 70% probabality from different AI detection tools to at least combat the possible inaccuracy AI detection tools give.

How will you take steps to avoid excessive false outputs?

Even where advanced AI models sometimes suggest random answers, it will be interesting to see how accurate your AI extension can really be. From my point of view, it may not be possible to do this properly. But if it is perfectly possible then forum post writings can play an important role in detecting AI-generated posts.

AI detectors these days detect almost everything and then give an output, so what other kind of changes would you still like to see here?

This is a cool project. However ai posts are usually very obvious to tell anyway and when they are so obvious it takes a few seconds to copy/paste the context to your favorite online ai scanner. And since you don’t tell your own ai scanner (maybe i missed it), I’d rather do the manual check and include the source I used instead of using a plugin which uses an anonymous ai checker. (That source could be a very well known one but unless you disclose it, it doesn’t matter)

On top of it, I don’t like installing browser plugins because sometimes they cause trouble.

Exactly. Sometimes many people still don't realize how fallible these tools can be.

I recently read about a study in which ancient texts (for example, by Shakespeare) were placed in these tools, and they were classified as being written by AI.

To validate whether a text is generated by AI or not, it's not enough to just run it through these tools; a human analysis is necessary. Furthermore, despite being an overuse, many may use powerful AI engines for translation, which could easily generate false positives.

Therefore, I always recommend using these tools with caution.

It's surely going to be a very useful extension if it's open source but as long as it's source isn't present it will be hard for some of us to trust and install this extension. The thread says it's open source but in OP there's no mention of source code link or anything similar. I hope after reading these comments OP will share the source code since OP mentioned that the tool is source code in the title.

I did an evaluation of the source code inside the zip file



Data sent to the server
- background.js sends to https://talkgpt.cc/scan only:
  - pageUrl
  - postId
It doesn't send the post content directly, but the server can retrieve it automatically via the URL and ID. So, the post content can effectively be viewed by talkgpt.cc.

Session
- Generates a random sessionId (via crypto.randomUUID or getRandomValues) and saves it to chrome.storage.local.
This is normal for a rate-limit/analytics system; I don't see any user-related IDs, emails, or other PII in the code.

No dynamically executed code
- Don't use eval, Function, innerHTML with unsanitized data, etc.
- Does not explicitly intercept sensitive input (passwords, forms, etc.): it only searches for div.posts on a specific page (BitcoinTalk).

Yes it is possible, but currently we use Winston AI only. Maybe in the future we can add more!

We provide the actual scan score provided by Winston AI. It's a percentage based score.

We do disclose which provider we use. We use Winston AI. It's mentioned in our first post! What you mention about manually checking in the provider's website is definitely possible, but it is NOT free and NOT this easy to do compared to pressing a scan button.
