[Discussion] The Clarity Act vote gets postponed

Exciting times ahead:

The Clarity Act would clarify regulators' jurisdiction over the sector. Thursday's "mark-up," when senators debate, amend and vote on whether to advance the bill, will indicate if it can win the at least ​seven Democratic votes needed to pass the full Senate.

Seems like both the Coinbase as well as the Tether CEO are excited about the bill and the upcoming vote (coming today)[1][2]. Although I'm not entired sure how different it is from the initial one that were first brought up.

The banks have won the fight about the yield to some extent, they just didn't allow a full replication of their business model because they would get bankrupt. They give out terrible APR and are milking the customers dry while at the same time gambling with their money -- the lobby is simply too strong at this point, but if the industry continues to grow and starts to compete with them more there is a chance of changes in these rules in the future. This is a good first step, although I would not celebrate just yet. Let's see what actually happens in the discussion and vote. Sometimes bills do fail at the finish line too for various reasons most often relating to corruption in the direction of "I won't vote in favor unless you do something that benefits me". It is legal if you believe it or not, democracy of idiots at the finest.

So the vote has succesfully passed (15-9) and is going the senate floor. Keep in mind that this does not necessarily mean that the act will eventually pass, as multiple figures are still expecting some amends in the future.

Two Democrats voted in support, though many others are reserving their sentiment until important issues can be worked out — including law enforcement concerns and an ethics provision.

One thing is clear here there is a clash of interest in this whole Bitcoin clarity thing, from getting postponed after the comments of a powerful figure/CEO said he is not in support of the so called clarity act and now senators are meeting with Donald Trump's. This shows that the clarity act is now a sensitive issue that many people are now interested in. Let see in the coming days what will become of Clarity act.

I have been following this, almost every day for months. I don’t think it’s going to happen this year. Republicans need at least 7 Democrats to break rank and vote YES. It just is not going to happen, they hate Trump too much. The big hold up is on ethics and he screwed us on that with his shitcoin rug pulls. It’s mid term year too, Democrats are not going to give Trump what he would deem a victory in a mid term year. The Clarity Act is dead in the water, they should all be ashamed of themselves for tribal voting, they are not putting investors first and protecting normal people.

The latest update has been reported a couple of hours ago:

BREAKING: Senate Republicans have released an updated version of the Clarity Act this morning, per Eleanor Terrett.

Under the revised bill:

- The President, Vice President, members of Congress, federal judges, and their spouses would be barred from issuing or sponsoring digital assets for compensation while in office.

- Covered officials would be required to sell their crypto holdings or place them in blind trusts they do not control.

- The Department of Justice would receive sweeping authority to enforce crypto ethics rules and pursue exchanges that knowingly list prohibited tokens.

- Federal funding for blockchain investigations and law enforcement training would be expanded, alongside the creation of a new cyber center focused on threats from countries such as North Korea and Iran.

- Stablecoin issuers would be required to comply with lawful orders to freeze, seize, burn, and reissue tokens.

The proposal has already sparked fierce Democratic opposition, with lawmakers objecting to the decision to hand enforcement powers exclusively to the DOJ while sidelining state attorneys general.

Bipartisan negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming days.

On July 28, 2026, the Senate focused on a procedural vote on the Russia sanctions package and federal nominations instead of the Clarity Bill. I am just hearing from Faryar Shirzad that the disagreement concerning the ethical issues has been settled with the Executive. This is because some reports still mention it as one of the stumbling blocks.

I also think that the American Bankers Association is still lobbying the Senate to make further amendments to the bill which might further delay it.

The possibility of the Clarity bill becoming an Act will depend on how fast the industry players will lobby the executive and the Senate to harmonise the interests of all parties to enable speedy voting and passing of the bill.

It is one thing to show support and be optimistic, but it is another to actually understand what is realistic. I have also shown support for the Clarity Act in bitcointalk forum, but i am not so optimistic for a vote on it to happen before the August recess.

Take note that it is not just about taking the vote, the Republicans wouldn't want this to go for a full senate vote if they are not optimistic of receiving the bipartisan support that is necessary for the bill to pass. The politics around this is sickening and i hate the fact that the Democrats are making this more about Trump, than a groundbreaking legislation that it is.

Such a huge shame that Democrats, the likes of Pocahontas Warren would rather risk investors money because it feels good to supposedly get one over on Trump.

Clear rules can regulate the industry, stop fraud, exchange manipulation but it’s more important for them to annoy Republicans than get something positive done for the people they are supposed to represent.

Yeah, the Democrats are requesting that State Attorney Generals should be allowed to sue the DOJ, if they fail to enforce the ethics laws, in other words, if they fail to stop Trump from making money off of crypto, because that is exactly what they mean. You'd think these senators would put their country first, but no, they see the legislation as a means to attack Mr President.

Truth is, both parties would have to reach a compromise on the ethics provision if this bill is going to stand any chance of becoming law. Though i must say, some of the offers by the Democrats are crazy and are fueled by hate, rather than looking out for the greater good of the industry in the U.S..

What Trump and his family have milked the cryptocurrency market, investors exclusively US citizens and it's unethical in my opinion. And The Trump family manipulations for money are not limited to only cryptocurrency market but in other markets too.

I agree with any new Acts, Laws, Regulations to prohibit engagements of powerful politicians like Trump in the future. People can lose money with their bad decisions but if a President of a nation and his family manipulate markets for own financial benefits, it's very unethical. I believe that it's not too hard to realize manipulations of Trump family in cryptocurrency market since January 2024 and even months before that.

I was one of the first user on this forum to call out Trump for launching a memecoin, with the First Lady following soon after. That was a shitshow. I have always maintained that it was one of the many bad decisions that Donald Trump has made.

However, these senators don't care about the crypto market, nor investors, their major concern is getting one over Trump and that is a terrible way to go. I do not think it is wise to stifle greater development, because you are hell-bent on expressing your hatred for one man and his family, and it is obvious that is the case, because whenever a compromise is made on the issue, they come back with another counteroffer.

It is a difficult situation, and even the Republicans gave in with some Ethics provisions even though there is no such thing in any single law that relates to financial instruments that the Democrats are using. They and the people who support them are some of the most evil people to have ever walked across this planet, the most corrupt and useless pieces of shit. I’ve been waiting for this clarity act to be passed for a really long time. But up until today, all I’ve heard about is just the plan itself. A few days ago I read the news that Trump’s opposition party proposed a new draft regarding the clarity act. It’s about government officials’ ethics, law enforcement, and anti-money laundering. Even the delay in passing the clarity act has led the US Treasury Secretary to criticize the Democratic Party. Democrats in the Senate are seen as slowing down the approval of the clarity act, and this has become a risky political move that could harm US economic leadership. I’m pretty happy with the draft, but I’d be even happier if it gets passed soon.

What kind of answer is that? Something is wet until it is dry and then it is dry?   I don't need a fucking definition of "not allowed", I am asking for reasons why it should be disallowed. Politicians can do all kinds of things already, and they are heavily abusing it such as Nancy Pelosi. Why would you forbid them from issuing a token? It may not be a great thing, but forbidding this explicitly while allowing all kinds of things that are abused on a much bigger scale.

This is perfectly legal and there is nothing wrong with having a low latency news feed, many companies have this already. You should consider that your views may be a way of subconscious envy showing itself, after all he is in a position of power and is able to combine it with his business experience in order to generate a lot of money for himself, whereas you need to work your whole life to earn what he earns in a couple of minutes. Envy is a very bad trait, many people in this forum have it.

If you agree with it, then why argue that it should be forbidden? You are contradicting yourself here. The only real issue is when something is fraudulently marketed or misrepresented to the public, e.g., if a memecoin is to be claimed to be the next Bitcoin or if they advertise it with some kind of buy back system that they never do -- in the direction of that. However, such laws already exist and are not related to crypto and they don't need to be. In every other case there is no need to disallow it. If you want to disallow it for Trump, then why stop there? Why not disallow it for every public and influential person too? After all, some of them have even more influence than stupid. Don't be biased. Be consistent and suggest that we ban it for everyone or shut the fuck up, we have too many biased people everywhere.

The ethics revisions are way more than enough, but the Democrats are stalling again which proves that this was never about any kind of ethics. They are the worst scum that has ever had any power in our beloved America, but many people are easily manipulated by those that pretend to be the good guys.

Yeah, the bill is very important and it would have positive implications if and when it becomes law, but the Democrats are blinded by their hate for Trump, and as a result i don't think this bill would pass before the August 7, recess at least.

However, the situation would get worse if the senate doesn't vote on this bill before the Midterm General Elections, and the Democrats get to win more seats in Congress, then the chances of the Clarity Act beoming law becomes even slimer, hopefully that doesn't happen.
