A much fairer comparison of Bitcoin vs altcoins would be the first 10 years from the time it first traded. We all know that price growth is astronomical in the first years vs the recent years. Just look at Ethereum's performance in the recent bull run

Bitcoin is still going to dominate the market in the next 10 years because only the approval of spot bitcoin ETF's that happened in 2024 is enough confidence booster to tell us what the future of bitcoin holds. Some altcoins might still withstand the market in the next 10 years, but they might even lose their position in the market, but the market cap. of bitcoin will continue to increase, and its price will also rise as well. Market liquidation always happens from time to time so it's not the first time but the ability to still stand tall after a massive liquidation is what differentiates a super coin like bitcoin to other shit coins so bitcoin will be stronger in 10 years coming and its adoption will broaden.

I agree with you on the fact that Bitcoin investment is always more profitable for a 10year duration as compared to 5year plan, because it is still a more preferred option when it comes to wealth accumulation, protection of money value when considering inflation, and if course it links the world in a way that if it goes out of the crypto currency market today, these altcoins will not still outperform it or thrive in that market.
If you were holding for a ten year duration and this year makes it the 10th year, depending on how large the portfolio now is, moving the funds may affect market movement and sentiments because large fund movement has alot to do with how the market trend goes and only those who panic may make silly decisions, not knowing that you as the investor is just doing what's necessary to secure your investment.

Market cap matters. If majority of these altcoin are put in the same market cap level as bitcoin, they will be having much lower gains because not enough money to pump.

Though on the other hand, it also shows that you can be throwing money to litecoin and dogecoin blindly and you get more or less the same gain as bitcoin so why not just put it all in bitcoin that have higher liquidity and get that peace of mind.

If we put our money in the wrong time (into an overvalued asset) then we have no money to invest in the right time and place (into undervalued assets).
No asset is good or bad (by nature) to invest - the undervaluation and overvaluation is needed to track.

It is so important to say it clearly: no asset is able to make us wealthy - Bitcoin, altcoins, silver, real estate.....  every asset has its bad times to buy and bad times to sell.... good times to buy and good times to sell. The timing is everything.

Usually top and old altcoin has better return than bitcoin but still speculation can't guarantee keep on the higher price, actually bitcoin is the best and safety cryptocurrency assets for holding exactly for ten years later than speculate with altcoin for right now easily get scam or stuck at lower price. Better lower return but keep safety as cryptocurrency assets investment than we make high speculation when investing in altcoin how their dominance not only from holder but from the altcoin owner it self.

I think for OP make new comparison maybe around 5 years later how much return when investing in bitcoin and several top altcoin, interested waiting for the return profitable earn from Bitcoin and top altcoin like ETH, BNB, LTC and XRP which one more profitable to hold.

This period was remarkably stable (the first remarkably stable years in crypto history): the snapshot from 20 January, 2016 is very similar to the snapshots from 20 January, 2015 and 20 January, 2017. The prices remained relatively stable about three years and only slight price increases emerged until the spring 2017. For example, the Etherum price (1,53 usd) was only 5x of its initial crowdfunding price 1,5 years ago (0.30 usd). These years was in sharp contrast with the first five crypto years (2009-2013) that were extremely turbulent.

This was really looong time for thinking and making plans for the future. In some aspect such eras are even more valuable than the turbulent action times like 2017.

yup, as I recalled, between 11-12, from $2 to $10. Back to the future to myself saying "HOLD".

Price of bitcoin does rise less than altcoins, but what you need to realize is the differences in the names of the altcoins. Look at the top 10 in crypto world 10 years ago, look at it 5 years ago, and look at it today, are they the same? We are in a period where surely things like XRP and ETH stayed, but where was SOL 10 years ago? Not even created. Why get Peercoin? Factom? hell even Litecoin isn't that much up.

So it's clear that bitcoin is smaller than some, but at least it is guaranteed to stay at the top, rest are questionable. Factom is literally gone when you compare it. So that is why people fear some of the alts, because you never know if it will go down in 10 years to be nothing, maybe it will go up like eth, maybe it will crash, how can I possibly know for sure?

Perhaps the uncertainty was the huge reminder back then and that's a fact we shouldn't ignore. Well, regret do come at a later date but I think right now I don't think that crypto will be irrelevant and holding right now for another ten years isn't just a no-brainer it's probably the best decision we could have in our lifetime. I'd say make that huge percentage for just Bitcoin, it will really worth it.
