As someone who is currently in a rehab community due to my gambling addiction, I can swear to you all gambling addiction is real killer that ruins your life. Since August 15 I’m in rehab and my program ends May 15th. Costed me over 50 000€ to get this treatment and this is my last chance to have a normal life. I just got access to Phone a couple of days ago as I am advanced member in the program (close to 8 months in) but yeah I can tell you that from all addictions gambling has the highest death rate due people suiciding. If anyone is interested in hearing my story, I could share more with you all.

I usually reject those requests, because I don't want to hurt myself and him by lending him money.

Yes, you are right, usually addicted gamblers doesn't want to accept the fact that they are indeed into the depth of hell in gambling. That's why it's very hard for someone to help them because they deny that they have this symptoms and they that are normal like any other people. However, I won't categorized it as silent killer, as it's obvious that there is a sign that every gambling addicts has. We need to help them in whichever way possible before they really ruined their lives for the worst.

People think they were just relaxing while gambling, but they did not know they have gone too far in gambling, from a simple weekend gambling to a daily gambling, spening their money and losing but still they refuse to acknowledge the situation and they still think they just want to relax.
The next time they realized they already spend so much and already in big debt without knowing their situation, by the time it come to their senses they already sold everything have nothing to spend, that is the reality about gamblers, and it will continue until we learn how important it is to have awareness.

I got to mention, is it best to be in the gambling section or is the rehab so that you can be here and its ok.    I guess every alcoholic has to be able to walk past the alcohol isle of a supermarket or you are still too vulnerable.

Except an addict is living in denial of what is actually happening to him that he is addicted it will be difficult to get help so the first road to recovery is to admit that he has an addiction problem and needs help. There are symptoms to tell a person that he is addicted to gambling which he cannot ignore, example is wanting to gamble when you are busy at work or doing an important task. Not knowing when to draw the line that it is time to stop and actually stoping. Being reckless with spending money on gambling which is a lack of discipline in bankroll management. Every gambler needs to be in control of their gambling if not they will become addicted because gambling can be addictive.

I think you're exaggerating here, because there are many gamblers who have lost everything in gambling, all their money and property, their families have been destroyed, and yet they continue to live. What you're describing are isolated cases, and I think it can happen when a person has a predisposition to it. Having total control of our emotions and feelings helps to derive us from getting addicted towards gambling but as soon as we allow our emotions to take control of us and take decisions for us then easily we will make inappropriate decisions. Gambling addiction doesn’t mind our state of living either wealthy or not either healthy or unhealthy a gambler can easily get addicted when we loss control of our emotions.
  Falling into gambling addiction is easy and so fast but the problem is stepping out of gambling addiction that where the problem comes, we will always finds it difficult to leave and not only gambling addiction alone but many but same goes for many other addiction so let do ourselves a favor and avoid falling for any addiction.

Actually it is not entirely without symptoms or signs, I also believe most addicted gamblers knows about the symptoms but they ignore it.
Symptoms like emotional changings, social behavior changings such as start to be less active in social activities, and maybe changings in how someone spend money.
Means that it is actually not that "silent" because usually those addicted are trying to hide the symptoms so the problems become worse.

True, if they don’t address it’s on time then it could be.. but at the same time,  another scary part is there are still some people that don’t realize they’re going deep into it, or have already gone too deep in it… most of them just feels it is normal, but before you know it, it would grow even deeper...

And because gambling addiction is not loud or obvious like other issues, it can just keep building quietly till it gets to a really bad stage..

Everything is possible, of course it is, but I know that a person will realize they are addicted because their money runs out very quickly and they can't control it. That's when they realize there's a problem; they need to stop or not gamble so much money because money isn't infinite, unless they're a millionaire, in which case it doesn't matter much. The addiction is harder because it usually leaves the person without money, and in this world, money is needed for absolutely everything.

Don't overlook the damage it causes in relationships. Many once lovely families have been destroyed because of gambling addiction. There was a story on this forum about a young man who gambled away all the money they had saved for their marriage. My neighbor, who is suffering from a gambling disorder, once used his children's school fees to gamble. This action nearly ended their marriage. It took the intervention of family and friends before they were able to reconcile.
