How will this affect bitcoin?

What does bitcoin have that Gcoin does not?

Does this spell the end of bitcoin or a new beginning because there is now more robust competition?

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Bitcoin already has a decentralized network.   Google could try to do the same thing, but they would either have to centralize it to be in control of it, or make another decentralized network that they inherently don't have as much control over.

In general, if it was true (not a 1.april hoax). I think with googles resourches the desentrilized cryptocurrencies would be outcompeted. There is many resons for this, here are some few:

1. With the echonomic and human resourches they has they can develope whatever they want, and outcompete others easily with use of time.
2. The mainstream people and market will adopt it more easily, just because it is branded and has a trust foundation even if it would be desentilized. Look at gmail from they started developing it and what it is today.
3. if they put focus on something they actually finish it to goal. regards to the cryptocurrencies today there is many developers that not work togheter, but has the focus on smaller scale. its like having many ends in the rope, and all are pulling in different directions.

Maybe we get a facecoin, twittercoin, even mcdonaldcoin? he he Smiley

You'll probably be able to change some settings around so that you never have to think about anything ever.  They interpret your web activity and decide what you're most likely to buy and go ahead and order it for you.  Once the drones come, we'll never have to leave our house.  Can't wait!

I'd honestly prefer a service from someone like google. I can hold them liable if I lose funds due to some network vulnerability (someone figures out a way to intercept coins some how, or the network forks and screws stuff up etc), they'd have paid employees working on the code not volunteers, it would be more accepted by banks (I will always use banks, always. They have services that are convenient like loans/credit), the public would accept it quicker etc.

I also don't think google would take too large of fees, they do give assloads away to philanthropic projects/causes, they'd make enough money off of it with minimal fees (perhaps even as small as the current transaction fee for bitcoin) to at least cover maintenance costs once it had been developed.

I would never , ever invest in or use google coins.  Google is an obnoxious corporation with entirely too much power that thinks it can do whatever it wants and most of the time it can... It's already taking over the world.

I like bitcoin because no government or corporation controls it.

Google has a superb email, is revolutionizing residential internet connections and infrastructure in the U.S., are making revolutionary progress in autonomous cars, invest heavily in renewable energy, support many many non-profits, help combat human trafficking and child abuse, protect threatened and endangered species, fund education programs around the world in impoverished areas, donate 100 million USD a year in grants, donate 60,000 volunteer hours a year, charitably give 1bn USD in products & services a year, just gave groups in Africa a MILLION solar powered lights, funding projects that turn human waste into both fuel and fertilizer...

I posted on these a few times last night - Google does not appear to be working on their own coin. They are, instead, behind and supportive, and accommodating of bitcoin, and the app EAZE that will be installed in google glass when it's released in the coming months that uses bitcoin. Google has made it pretty clear they've accepted bitcoin is here to stay so they are adapting to its gaining popularity.

If you consider that, plus the release of Glass with this app that will introduce bitcoin to millions of new uers who will then be making repeated purchase of bitcoin to shop and send, Google is greatly endorsing the legitimacy of bitcoin and its real world value. It's not looking to compete with it, it's been supportive of giving bitcoin its room to do what it can do in becoming pervasive. When that happens, it'll drive up the value of btc and no matter how much it drops over the China thing, it's inevitably about to shoot back up to the high zone.

Google is a transhumanist company...they give the +1 to transhumanist technology and bitcoin is a leader innovator in that area.

You say "anti government" like that's a bad thing...

Unfortunate times will bring out the best in good people and the worst in bad people

back in 2011 google has stated that they were thinking about creating their own currency few years back, but decided not to proceed due to regulations and legal matters.

it would not surprise me if bitcoin was google's creation let out in the open to take a life on its own.

I would never , ever invest in or use google coins.  Google is an obnoxious corporation with entirely too much power that thinks it can do whatever it wants and most of the time it can... It's already taking over the world.

I like bitcoin because no government or corporation controls it.

Last night I stumbled over this video on you tube of this woman, clearly some kind of pagan-esque religious sort who was "analyzing" the timing on singularity and transhumanism as a plot of the evil government, and this technology "the government" is creating is all to enslave us. Bitcoin just wants us to give all our money into it and it will steal it and lock us in, and then these technologies will be used against us - like (which was my fave Cheesy ) the ability *they* have right now to download our brainwaves and steal our thoughts. Google is a mark of the beast company the government has established to make us all slaves.

I couldn't shake the irony that she was using Google Search to display the growing and alarming number of transhumanist sites gearing up for an all out takedown of the human race and making video to put on You Tube...and she no doubt uses gmail if she's on you tube. She even said teenagers must be protected because they don't know about this transhumanist agenda. That's about the time my eye started twitching and I felt IQ points evaporating and the air thinning.

The timing of bitcoin and all the technology coming about...clearly, clearly signs that the apocalypse is at hand. She couldn't manage to connect the dots that the timing of bitcoin being released to the world was the year following the AIG bank robbery and bankruptcy of the people dependent on fiat currency. Nope, it's the debil gearing up to take our souls.

Google the evil government created corporation, out to enslave us.

Google is a transhumanist entity and they use their muscle to block oppressive regimes, ours included. Because they can.

They are not interested in our private information to sell to evil governments nefarious plots to track us...they are all about making it easier for us in a contained setting to have everything customized to our liking at our fingertips so the easier our lives are, the more shit we will ultimately use from Google....and frankly, I'm not opposed to that. While I HATE the censorship of you tube, it's the only one these days, but I don't have a big issue using ONE login/pw credential to access all the various things so I'm not spending half the morning logging into stuff.

They're not an evil entity out to take our souls. They're quite a charitable entity out to change the world and liberate humanity from these bronzed age psychopathic governments and bankrupting cartels.

So +1 Google

Google also knows that you like pornhub way too much, that you like searching penis growth tablets, and is it legal to marry my sister in this state.

Don't put too much faith in Google, you cross them you'll get Googled!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj83dL72cvg

I don't care what they know about me. If I did I wouldn't use their services.

You say that now, but when they release their robot army like it's Judgement Day....

Look out!   Grin

Because it helps drive innovation unto itself...keeps the competition fierce and while that is going on, people experience the concept and pick their favorite...and the rest fall by the wayside as one dominant emerges. We *need* more coins for the same reason we need only one - choice and an alternative from fiat.

More selection, better choices.

I would never , ever invest in or use google coins.  Google is an obnoxious corporation with entirely too much power that thinks it can do whatever it wants and most of the time it can... It's already taking over the world.

Yes, Google is such a wicked wicked company.

doesnt matter how much "good" they do... the us government gives billions in foreign aid.  its still too much centralized power.

This is a hoax.  Read into the coin announcement and all the other related posts/articles.  The client is downloaded from sourceforge. Just that fact, which I found in about 20 seconds, tells you that it is not made by google.

Petman is adorable!  I'd hate to see it come chomping out of the woods unexpectedly though!

Google's also doing a LOT in the way of radical life extension -

http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/9/4820356/google-reportedly-investing-hundreds-of-million-into-its-new-life

And busy scooping up solar powered drones -

http://www.cnet.com/news/google-buys-solar-powered-drone-company-titan-aerospace/

Annnd working to bring us the outernet - from space

http://www.ibtimes.com/introducing-outernet-free-worldwide-wi-fi-access-beamed-space-1556016

So....robots...space net...life extension....solar powered drones....

It looks soooo cool but also looks like they're actually trying for skynet!  Grin

although Gcoin is a april fools, if they did invent one. they would peg each coin as being $1 or something. and rely on the fact that people will hand them fiat and hope they can offer enough resources/services/ products, that by the time they take their fee's in the middle and most people not cashing out. that they will end up with a large FIAT stash pile,

google do not like the price variance of bitcoin, so bitcoin will always win the scarce resource digital currency war
google will centralize their mining. so bitcoin will win the decentralized currency war
google will control the fiat exchanging. so bitcoin will win the local exchange war.

although google will try to offer services to merchants online and offline. their fee's wont win them any favours.

imagine it visa charge google 2%, google adds another 1% fee.. and then tries offering merchants a google wallet with a 3% fee

1. With the echonomic and human resourches they has they can develope whatever they want, and outcompete others easily with use of time.
If they throw their weight behind Bitcoin or an altcoin, whichever they choose will get a boost. If they start from scratch, they'll have the same problems all altcoins have, of getting anyone to care. The only way I can see it working is if their new coin is technically brilliant, and even then it's dubious. (Lots of altcoins seem technically better than Bitcoin to me, but they don't have much momentum.)

Quote
2. The mainstream people and market will adopt it more easily, just because it is branded and has a trust foundation even if it would be desentilized. Look at gmail from they started developing it and what it is today.
Although that's true, most of their own services are free. They can't get the ball rolling by accepting the currency themselves because most of us don't pay them anything. I think being endorsed by Amazon would be a bigger deal than being endorsed by Google.

Their resources could even count against them. We know they have huge server farms, so if their own coin is mineable by them, they could mount a 51% attack against it. It'd risk being treated as a private currency rather than a distributed one.

Quote
3. if they put focus on something they actually finish it to goal.
That's a big "if". They have a lot of internal projects that never see the light of day, and a lot of the ones that do are half-baked and/or get dropped. They are not above having two operating systems - Android and Chrome OS - in the same mobile space.

Overall, I think Google and companies like them are far more likely to endorse bitcoin than create their own altcoin.
