How will this affect bitcoin?

What does bitcoin have that Gcoin does not?

Does this spell the end of bitcoin or a new beginning because there is now more robust competition?

Bitcoin already has a decentralized network.   Google could try to do the same thing, but they would either have to centralize it to be in control of it, or make another decentralized network that they inherently don't have as much control over.

In general, if it was true (not a 1.april hoax). I think with googles resourches the desentrilized cryptocurrencies would be outcompeted. There is many resons for this, here are some few:

1. With the echonomic and human resourches they has they can develope whatever they want, and outcompete others easily with use of time.
2. The mainstream people and market will adopt it more easily, just because it is branded and has a trust foundation even if it would be desentilized. Look at gmail from they started developing it and what it is today.
3. if they put focus on something they actually finish it to goal. regards to the cryptocurrencies today there is many developers that not work togheter, but has the focus on smaller scale. its like having many ends in the rope, and all are pulling in different directions.

Maybe we get a facecoin, twittercoin, even mcdonaldcoin? he he Smiley

It's bad enough Google and Facebook already has my personal profile on file, now if they have a currency, they'll know what I'll buy before I buy it.   Lips sealed

You'll probably be able to change some settings around so that you never have to think about anything ever.  They interpret your web activity and decide what you're most likely to buy and go ahead and order it for you.  Once the drones come, we'll never have to leave our house.  Can't wait!

I'd honestly prefer a service from someone like google. I can hold them liable if I lose funds due to some network vulnerability (someone figures out a way to intercept coins some how, or the network forks and screws stuff up etc), they'd have paid employees working on the code not volunteers, it would be more accepted by banks (I will always use banks, always. They have services that are convenient like loans/credit), the public would accept it quicker etc.

I also don't think google would take too large of fees, they do give assloads away to philanthropic projects/causes, they'd make enough money off of it with minimal fees (perhaps even as small as the current transaction fee for bitcoin) to at least cover maintenance costs once it had been developed.

I would never , ever invest in or use google coins.  Google is an obnoxious corporation with entirely too much power that thinks it can do whatever it wants and most of the time it can... It's already taking over the world.

I like bitcoin because no government or corporation controls it.

Google has a superb email, is revolutionizing residential internet connections and infrastructure in the U.S., are making revolutionary progress in autonomous cars, invest heavily in renewable energy, support many many non-profits, help combat human trafficking and child abuse, protect threatened and endangered species, fund education programs around the world in impoverished areas, donate 100 million USD a year in grants, donate 60,000 volunteer hours a year, charitably give 1bn USD in products & services a year, just gave groups in Africa a MILLION solar powered lights, funding projects that turn human waste into both fuel and fertilizer...

Yes, Google is such a wicked wicked company.

I posted on these a few times last night - Google does not appear to be working on their own coin. They are, instead, behind and supportive, and accommodating of bitcoin, and the app EAZE that will be installed in google glass when it's released in the coming months that uses bitcoin. Google has made it pretty clear they've accepted bitcoin is here to stay so they are adapting to its gaining popularity.

If you consider that, plus the release of Glass with this app that will introduce bitcoin to millions of new uers who will then be making repeated purchase of bitcoin to shop and send, Google is greatly endorsing the legitimacy of bitcoin and its real world value. It's not looking to compete with it, it's been supportive of giving bitcoin its room to do what it can do in becoming pervasive. When that happens, it'll drive up the value of btc and no matter how much it drops over the China thing, it's inevitably about to shoot back up to the high zone.

Google is a transhumanist company...they give the +1 to transhumanist technology and bitcoin is a leader innovator in that area.

You say "anti government" like that's a bad thing...

Unfortunate times will bring out the best in good people and the worst in bad people

back in 2011 google has stated that they were thinking about creating their own currency few years back, but decided not to proceed due to regulations and legal matters.

it would not surprise me if bitcoin was google's creation let out in the open to take a life on its own.
