Today Flamengo has a huge chance to take top spot in the Brazilian league, in a match against a weak Remo. I have no doubts about an easy win for Flamengo, even though the team is playing away, and away games are usually a problem. But for them to secure top spot, Palmeiras has to lose to Botafogo playing in Rio de Janeiro, which is totally possible in my opinion.

It's done. Flamengo won against Remo and Palmeiras tied against Botafogo, so Flamengo is the new leader of the championship, although the competition is still quite fierce at this point with just one point difference between them. Hard to predict what is going to happen next, but what have been seen so far is a superior Flamengo after World Cup and a Palmeiras which struggle winnings games, even though they have a superior team on the field.

Chances are still good for both sides, though, with average teams to be faced ahead and then a direct duel between the two clubs which may also be decisive after all.

This was a round that had some results that surprised me.

Coritiba 1 - 2 Mirassol

This was a result that shocked me, firstly because Coritiba was playing at home and came into this game with 4 consecutive games without losing and are in 7th position in the table, and they scored first, it was at 61 minutes that they scored, while their opponent is fighting to distance themselves from the teams in the relegation zone and came into this game with a sequence of 4 games without a win. So when I saw Coritiba's first goal I thought: "victory is guaranteed" but 3 minutes later I saw Mirassol's goal, I even thought "what the hell happened?" as I wasn't watching the game, I was only seeing the result on Google, so my shock was great, so I stopped following the game and hours later I went to see how the game ended and saw that Coritiba lost.

I expected to see more goals considering that the opponent is the second worst team in the league and Flamengo is fighting for the title. But a victory is a victory, regardless of the number of goals scored. Therefore, I'm happy that Flamengo won and is now at the top of the table.

Botafogo 0 - 0 Palmeiras

It's strange to see Botafogo in 13th place this season even after playing 25 games. I don't know how they've fallen so far. They haven't won in their last 5 games, while Palmeiras has only won 1 in their last 5 games. If they continue like this, they could fall in the standings quickly like Botafogo.

Internacional 2 - 3 Santos

This was a very funny game. In the first 5 minutes, Internacional dominated the game, but then came the mistake by the Internacional defender. I don't know how the Internacional player could make that kind of mistake. I laughed so hard when I saw it.



Santos scored the first goal thanks to an error by the Internacional defender, and then in the 28th minute benefited from a penalty and a red card given to the Internacional player. Until the end of the first half, Santos was winning 3-0 and had 11 players against Internacional's 10. But it's unbelievable that in the second half Santos conceded two goals, and if the game had gone another 45 minutes, perhaps Santos would have lost.

I ended up correctly predicting the Fluminense game, where they won 1-0 against Vasco, but that game could have ended in a draw because Vasco had many chances to score; they were better on the field but couldn't convert.

As for Coritiba, despite starting with a win, Mirassol equalized and then took the lead. Mirassol had more possession and the number of shots on goal was practically the same. So it could have been a draw, but this time it was Coritiba who couldn't convert.

I think it's tough for Flamengo to stay top of the league until the end of the season. I think there are 10 games left, right? That's 30 points up for grabs. I think we're going to see Palmeiras and Flamengo taking turns at the top. I personally root for Flamengo, but Brazilian football is getting a bit dull. It's always these same teams in the race, it'd be way cooler if at least four teams had a real shot at the title.

I think we are going have excitement to all the way until the end of championship!

Currently, Flamengo’s chances of winning are 69%, and this is not just the difference in points, but also their performance compared to Palmeiras... they are heading in opposite directions.

Buttttt... It is our "Brasileirão", right!? Anything can happen in these last few games and just one "slip-up" by Flamengo could turn things around again, but I think that is unlikely because they still have two games against Corinthians and Bragantino in home. If they put together a good winning streak there, then the lead will shoot up to a significant advantage over Palmeiras.

I was analyzing it, and that's about a 70% chance that Palmeiras won't win. And the path to victory for Palmeiras is much more difficult, and their team is relatively more unstable than Flamengo's. But things could change, there are still many rounds left, but I personally wouldn't go against your prediction; I believe they won't win either.

And the game was very even, the good thing is that it's the first leg. The second leg, which will be next Wednesday, September 16th, will be at Corinthians' home ground, and I believe that will compensate them a lot. Now we just have to wait and everything is in their hands, which is what worries the fans the most!

Botafogo 0 - 0 Palmeiras

It's strange to see Botafogo in 13th place this season even after playing 25 games. I don't know how they've fallen so far. Botafogo hasn't been playing anything since the return from World Cup championship. The team is demotivated and lack pieces to make it work. To simply change the coach isn't the solution, since the players are still the same. I believe there are too many old players and young players in the team and as consequence we have a very slow and impulsive squad, with zero accuracy to score goals. There must be more players on an average age (above 21, but also below 30).

There are new players being transferred to the team who must play on the next match already against Bragantino, but I won't create any expectations before watching them on the field.
