Being called a gambler, compliment or insult?

Just calm down and not saying much. I don't cares with they said because they don't know what I do daily. So they can says anything they want and I should not feels bad. I am not feel proud and not considering of compliment because I don't know what they mean are. If they says bad to me, I just need to leave them and not hearing what they say. The case is solve and no one will hurts unless they keeps chasing me and say bad words. I will punch them if they do that

The fact that I'm a gambler or I gamble doesn't mean or give someone the room to call me a gambler though sometimes I may not react off because of the person that is calling and how the person is calling it. If it is my guy that use to gamble with me sometimes I won't take it personal or if it is my friend that likes joking I won't also take it personal but there is a way someone will call you names, you will know when the person is trying to make a mockery or piss you off so this kind of persons I won't take it from them I will have to caution them and gambling is not something one should be proud of no matter how much you are making.

Colleagues and friends who are also gamblers and know that we are gamblers will not call or label us as such. I live in a country that indeed prohibits gambling, and although my surroundings don't really care about gambling, for foreigners, calling someone a gambler is considered a bad thing. The impression of being a gambler and gambling is always negative for most people. But I have already ignored all of that. They should mind their own business.

The people around me here view a gambler as an insult, because they always assume that you're an addict and have mostly heard bad news out of it.

Whenever I have conversations with my friends, it can be a mix of both, but for me, if someone calls me a gambler, it's probably neither of the two. I'd rather not think too deeply about what others have to say when I already know the ups and downs through gambling.

Being called a gambler is never a complement but on the case of insult it can only be considered an insult if the person that is being called a gambler is an irresponsible gambling person, it means rubbing it on your face of your irresponsible gambling behavior but in the case of a responsible gambler when being called a gambler and for some one like me I will smile and will never think in the direction of considering it to be an insult to my personality because I know what am doing, I am not reckless about it, I take good care of my self and essentially needs and responsibilities hence it will never be an offense to me.

If you feel insulted on something that you do because you feel good doing it then you should stop doing it, I consider it a compliment and proud doing it, as long as I'm not neglecting my finances and gambling is not harming me I should not be bothered, and besides gambling is not illegal in our country and majority are betting on lottery so its a natural sight if people see you betting, some of my friends even ask for tips.

It all depends on how you appear to be in the eyes of people either responsible gambler or irresponsible gambler,.

If you are an irresponsible gambler that goes about borrowing and selling off your assets to gamble, still lose and comes back with nothing still telling stories that you almost won, then you have presented yourself to be an insult to the gambling community and the society.

If you are a responsible gambler that wins with all efforts being made, you achieve your success,. people will want to identify with you, nobody wants to be a failure, there they start complimenting you for all your efforts and even wished to be carried alone, your family, gambling community and tha society at large will be proud of you.

It could be a compliment or an insult, to judge which one it is there are two case scenarios you should look at, one is when you have won a huge amount of money from a casino and you were telling people about it and they told you that "you are a real gambler" it means that they are just throwing compliment at you. If you also refused to stop a game halfway to take cashout and the game finally lose, someone can still say you are a good gambler, which could be an insult or a compliment as well, it just depends on what is causing them call you a gambler because it could either be an insult or a compliment.

It also depends on how it is said, who is said and the context, often when you talk about it with people who are outside this world it is understood as contempt.
In fact, I never talk about gambling with people who don't understand and who are far from this world, I simply avoid confrontation.
But then they're the same ones who spend a lot of money on Saturday nights doing drugs and getting drunk, but that's a different story, they tell me they enjoy life.
To avoid any form of confrontation I avoid talking about it and if they ask me I always say that I play from time to time, less explanation from the best you pass.

I see no reason why calling someone a gambler should offend them. It can only be offensive unless one is not playing responsibly, and then it is used as mockery because of that.

I think if someone is gambling responsibly, other people shouldn't even be aware of it because it is a game that the public or people around you shouldn't know about, as they have no business knowing about your gambling activity. However, when you gamble without limits and take gambling very seriously, everyone will know about your gambling lifestyle and may use it to mock you.

One thing one must not do on earth is never get involved in what you can never be proud of any day any time, in as much as you continue doing it. Choosing anything is not the problem what the problem is if you can be proud to say it anywhere you find yourself, that is one difference between me and others. From the first day i decided to start gambling was when i also decided to answer a gambler because anyone getting involved in gambling is called a gambler so a gambler is who i am and nothing will change it until when i choose never to gamble again. So what is the point getting angry when one is called a gambler when you are deeply involved in gambling the same way i am.

It's all depends on the contents at which someone has been called The Gambler, even though I don't see anything bad in US rejecting to claim what we do, if we are so proud of gambling then we shouldn't take it offensive when people call us a gambler, gambling is not an illness or an act of stealing or going against the law, it's all about having fun but not everybody actually they wanted to be called a gambler especially in public.

No one has ever called me a gambler. My gambling activities has always been private. Now I'm thinking how I would feel if someone calls me a gambler in public, considering what my society think about gamblers, a female gambler at that. I will be embarrassed as I am certain that onlookers will give me a serious stare and assume I am one irresponsible young woman who is wasting money on gambling and topping up my irresponsible lifestyle with other unthinkable behaviours. The stereotype is much here.

Definitely not a compliment, unless you’re someone competing in big poker tournaments, which is a different story. But it’s not an insult either, of course you’d be called one if you are, and that’s just a fact. While it’s not an insult, being the topic of gossip in your community can naturally make you feel a bit of shame. Gambling is part of our culture, but losing a small amount isn’t enough to make you their topic, nor is it worth their attention. They usually see it as just having fun, compared to those who lose large amounts. To put it simply, they won’t call you a gambler if you’re only using a small amount or playing occasionally. This is just based on our place or community where I live.

Actually, the term "gambler" is real and undeniable, because those of us who gamble are gamblers. I don't think there is anything wrong with that term. It all depends on the context and who is calling it. If someone called me that, and they weren't a gambler, I would take it negatively, but it all comes back to the context, namely how the story actually happened. Personally, I am not offended when someone calls me that, because it is a fact. Even if someone were to mock me, that would be a different story, and I would just keep quiet, because there is no point in responding to the taunts. It is just a waste of time.

I wouldn't want to be called like that. It's a negative thing to be labeled as a gambler in my country, people immediately assume that you are an addict and just waste all of your money.

I gamble fairly regularly, but I don't share my gambling experiences with people I'm not close to. I don't mind if someone calls me a gambler, because I do gamble. But if they are referring to a case that humiliates me, of course, I won't accept it. Because I gamble with my own money and time without borrowing or using other people's money. As long as it doesn't harm me, I won't consider it important.

Gambling activities are not widely accepted in my area. Most religous organisation prohibts its members from active gambling. Since many people in my country are religious, it wouldn't be nice to be publicly known as a gambler. These people would have a wrong perception about you, which might cause an unhealthy relationship.

Online gambling has been my best avenue to place bets. It shields me from the negative public perception that going to a physical casino brings. It would be better to keep my gambling activites private because of the environment one finds thierself. So I wouldnt want to be publicly called a gambler.

Depends on the context at which a person is being referred to as a gambler, because here in the forum we all understand what gambling is all about, but outside people uses it as mockery, they believe a gambler is a player, a squander and an irresponsible person. But let us be honest with ourselves no one will like to be referred to as a gambler regardless of how much a person have benefited from gambling or how good a person  is in gambling, why? Because it is a personal engagement and decision so it should be done on a low key without
attracting unnecessary attention.
To me being called a gambler is not an insult nor a complement, i just want that part of me personal and private.

Some people may consider it a compliment but I don't want anyone to call me a gambler because people in our society hate gamblers, to be honest the word gambler is an insult, if someone calls me a gambler it will be insulting for me. And gambling is prohibited in our country, so in our country people don't gamble openly, they gamble in secret. Depends on the context. Generally the undertone of it is saying that you are reckless, which you can take how ever you will. That used to be cool thing when i was young, but when i am getting older and wiser, i see it as a childish trait, signaling that someone haven't matured.

I would take a look at the mirror if someone who i respect said that i am gambler, to see if there are any truth in that. Even though i gamble to the extend, i don't identify as a gambler. Because i have other more important things in my life, and i am not thinking gambling most of the time. If my budget at some point fails because of it, i definitely see myself as a gambler again.
