We all gamble here, that’s obvious. But outside this forum, when people around you casually call you a “gambler”, how do you actually take it?

Do you feel proud and see it as some kind of compliment, like someone who takes risks and knows what they’re doing. Or do you feel a bit insulted, like it’s something negative and not really something to be proud of?

Curious how others see it, especially since gambling means different things to different people.

To be honest, gambling is considered negative in my area. So, people do not look favorably on those who are involved in gambling. There are difficult conditions hidden behind this because most of the gamblers are uncontrolled gamblers, that is, they do not gamble in a controlled manner, they get into various types of addictions along with gambling, and they also do theft, robbery, and other bad things to earn money from gambling. This is mainly why I look down on gamblers here.

I don't have anything to be worried when someone addresses me as a gambler but I am a husband, father too so a random girl can't call me as husband or father, right?

It all depends on you whether you are profitable gambler or you are someone that is struggling to make money from gambling.
It is preferably when you are a profitable gambler, that would not sound like an insult because you are already in money and those people calling you a gambler might want to be like you or have similar results like you have been getting.

From the look of gambling effects in the societies where gambling is legalized today, it has come to be an era today where people now assumes gambling is a shortcut to become rich and on the process, players being bound to loose more than their looses and still gambling more than their risks befalls addicted and makes the introduction of gambling as a game of fun not be too proud for someone to publicly being addressed as a gambler. And the mentality of the public towards gambling changes and it becomes something not proud about for to be identified as.

Let for me I am a gambler and proud about it because I know that I do still keep the ethics of responsible gambler.

Gamblers are common in the society, calling a person a gambler depends on whether or not they're into the activity, that is what determines the followed reaction and also who used the word. When a stranger from nowhere calls somebodyelse a gambler, in a weird tone, it can be conceived as an insult. It depends on who is calling you the name, and in what context the name is being called. It can be annoying if the name is used in a manner like to mock you, but when the intention of the person calling you the name is not to mock you, you will also be able to tell. Whether some people would like to believe it or not there are some people that would call you a gambler simply because they admire your spirit to take risk, knowing that they will not be able to put themselves in same conditions. It is not always an insult when you're called a gambler, Sometimes some people call you gambler out of admiration.

Maybe let's start from this aspect, whereby we can decided in saying sorry to someone and this could mean a genuine apology to that person and in another way it could also be an insult to the same person, now what makes the difference is this, the tone we use in saying it could determine whether we are saying it in a proper way or we are using it abusing the person we are talking to, being called a gambler is not a crime but honestly we can be called a gambler and the atmosphere changes, because we may not want to be identified a gambler in some situations or in some specific places.

I don't consider it a compliment or an insult when called a gambler in public, because humans are all gamblers if understood fundamentally, who don't react too much to emotional things like that, unless there are additional sentences after it, such as great gamblers and lucky gamblers will be called compliments and vice versa, live in peace, my friend, don't respond too much to many things out there, because it will drain your emotions and thoughts, it's better to ignore them than to respond to them.

It all depends on how each person views it. One person might think a gambler is someone who can control their emotions, is an excellent arithmetician, and professionally manages their bankroll. Another might think a gambler is someone who has absolutely no self-control and only loses money. Moreover, when I see a gambler, I tend to assume the latter unless they demonstrate otherwise. This doesn't mean I dislike the concept, but if a gambler asks me for a loan and I don't know them well, it's best never to lend them even a dollar.

If you are indeed a gambler, then, there's no reason for you to be offended if someone called you a gambler. Unless, that person is mocking you as a person. Because that's a different story already. And if you are not harming or bothering anyone, then, other people should mind their own business and not yours. They don't have the privilege to meddle with your business as you are not using their money.
But if in case you are disturbing others by loaning from them and not paying promptly, then, I would say, they have the right to say you are indeed a gambler in a bad light.

I don't see anything bad in being called a gambler. Most people nowadays are into gambling, and they don't hide it, like they are doing something wrong, they come out openly to be involved in it. Why then will such a person take it as an insult when called a gambler when they are not hiding their gambling lifestyle from people around them?

If someone outside the forum considers me a gambler, I will definitely not see it positively. And if someone addresses me as a gambler in front of others, I will definitely feel humiliated there because gambling is not considered a positive thing outside. However, I am generally not interested in telling anyone about my gambling to avoid such a situation. I value my own privacy. There is no benefit in telling anyone about my gambling, rather if I keep it a secret, I will be able to gamble without interruption. I think it changes from country to country, in some places that would be considered an outright insult - maybe the equivalent of calling someone a criminal. In other places it might be seen in a less negative light and sometimes gamblers can be considered a positive trait, as long as someone analyses lots of inputs and goes in with a knowledgeable approach then there is no problem accepting a high risk. Some of the biggest companies in the world were based on an educated gamble - look at Amazon for example which made huge losses for many years while they expanded - now they are one of the biggest companies in the world after all of that effort which was not guaranteed to succeed.

The truth is that people want to gamble without being called a gambler, that name (Gambler) always sound insultive. I wouldn't lie, I gamble but don't like to be addressed as such because in my local community, people always see Gambler as irresponsible people, like people who waste money trying to make wealth out of nothing or out of thin air. When you say you are a Gambler many thoughts erupt in the mind of many. And if you eventually lose and made it know publicly, it will attract people to criticize and make mockery of you. So people prefer gambling online without no body knowing about it. Just a silent Gambler, only few will want to be addressed as gambler.

Depends on the context. If someone calls you a gambler in a good way then they are telling you a good thing, if they are calling you a gambler for a bad reason then it's an insult. There are always important contexts involved and that is why this depends on the context itself.

If I called you a gambler because you risked something and gained something more, like risked all your savings and invested into bitcoin but got richer, that is a compliment because you had the courage, but I could also call you a gambler when you make a stupid bet as well then it's an insult.

In our country, it’s an insult or a mockery since gambling here is branded as negative activity even if you are using it for entertainment purposes.

People automatically judge you as wasting money or irresponsible even though they don’t know exactly how you spend money on gambling.

Until now, only my close friend and wife only knew I’m gambling online.

It's crazy how people who don't gamble do assess gamblers as people who ain't serious with their life, even when there are worse things that people do that gambling is nothing close to it's negative impacts.

I think what makes people like us that gambles not finding it is pleasant when we're called gamblers in public is not because we ain't proud of what we do but the bad reputation that society has linked it with.

First of all, I don't share anything about gambling with anyone, only some of my close friends know that I gamble, they are also associated with gambling, basically the people I share gambling experience with they are also gambling, besides I don't discuss these things with anyone, so no one gets a chance to address me as gambler, because gambling is illegal in our country, so ordinary people have a negative idea about it.
