Do Big Wins Make You Smarter or More Careless Afterwards?

Alot of gamblers talk about losses in bitcoin or crypto gambling here and there but we don’t really talk much about what happens after a big win because based on what I’ve seen, a big win can go two very different ways afterwards such as when some people hit the jackpots they become more careful and disciplined about their subsequent gambles while others become overconfident than necessary and begin to take risks they normally wouldn’t take earlier thinking that same luck that hit them earlier will hit them again.

I am asking this because sometimes it feels like wins can even be more dangerous than losses especially when they create false confidence in you. If you’ve been in this situation before where you made a decent win, I really want to know how your mindset reacted to it, whether it gave you the confidence to want to continue playing bigger and more frequently or whether you just wanted to protect what you already gained?

And if I remember we have a similar thread about this subject, that once we win big, somewhat we became careless. I think it could be a normal reaction after winning big, let's say around $1000 or more. And with that kind of big money, you feel that you are the luckiest people, so it gives you that confidence and forget all about the textbox reminder that we should be calm and collective and stay discipline specially winning big amount. But what we do next? We forget about that and then we gamble again and it could be time time we bet huge and getting bolder with our bets and totally not protecting our winning because we are thinking that it's easy to make money again and can repeat that same winning with even bigger wins.

it kinda depends on the player, not every player has the same approach or attitude towards gambling. there are people who after a big win, see a whole new world of opportunities to win more and so this mindset often push them into making some careless decisions that'll mostly lead them to disappointment and frustration.

while there are other gamblers who become wiser and choose to walk away after a win, although some if not most of the folks who fall under this second category are people who have been victimized by being the gamblers in the first category and then through experience, they became wiser.

Absolutely true, not everyone has the same approach. There are people who play to have fun and people who want to make money and people who after a big win see more opportunities to win rather than stop and usually experience teaches me that money is lost.

Rarely I have seen someone who has got a huge win and after that to become a smarter person where by smarter I assume that this person to invest that money or to put it to good use for his family. The problem though is that very few people react this way to a huge win they may experience while the reality is completely different as most people get to excited about such big win and start gambling recklessly. In fact the number one reason for gambling addiction is a huge win that gamblers may experience in their beginning, rarely I have seen gamblers who experience big lost amount of money in their beginning go become addicted.

People just don't understand that gamblers have a unique and different mentality when it comes to finance,,, and I can say this as being a gambler myself, where I'm not even crazy gambling just normal gambling. If I win big, of course I gamble more

Sure maybe I put it a little to bills and treat myself and buy mama a gift but am I gonna stop gambling? Big no.

Big wins should not let you chasing more winning and it is better not continue gambling. We can't always win after wins before so it is better we stop gambling, withdraw the win money, and enjoy it. We may be difficult to win so we must value our winning by taking the money and leave the casino.

We can return to casino in other time so no needs to playing gambling anymore. Many people thinks that big wins is the time raising the bet amounts and chasing bigger wins. Well, that is not always wrong but we must be wise to ourselves and not let us gets deeper in gambling.

Careless or not winning big always makes you more confident when you are batting next. Usually, we tend to gamble in defensive style. But when a big winning is sitting on our bank, our fear of losing significantly reduces. No matter how hard we try, but it’s human psychology that we tend to gamble more and take risk more when we have a big winning and a positive PNL.

I remember once I did one a handsome amount and withdraw the fart immediately, but from casino apart, my withdrawal was canceled by the casino. That’s why the next day I was desperate to make my balance in a round figure. The intention was clear that either I will make it round figure or lose it all. Guess what happens next I lost it all.

Even though I don’t do this anymore, but winning big eventually reduces the fair of losing and makes us a bit more than our usual.

It’s the opposite for me. Having big win makes me more cautious on my later bets since I want to protect my profit as much as possible.

A simple 2 to 3 losing streak will make me cautious and hesitant to make a further bet. My experience of losing a lot my profit in the past made me to developed a self defense mechanism to protect my profit instead of carelessly wager further.

If could make some gambler get more careless in gambling because they may think of this opportunity coming more repeatedly and thereby staking more money to be able to win more, while not knowing that there is more to all these in winning a bet, some big wins can be a once in a lifetime opportunity, while in some rare occasions, wining could come occasionally and as the luck may appear.

I would say that most people would be ending up on being careless after they do make up some money or winning with gambling.Why? you would be that become confident that you would be able to make more on which it would be resulting into that kind of confidence on which it will be that causing for you to become careless. And next? you would definitely be having that kind of desperation at the moment that you've seen that your winnings are already that depleting and the worst is that you would be using up your bankroll and ending up on losing everything. You would be ending up on having regret and telling into yourself that you should have withdraw and make use of those amounts into something else. Well, regret would be always at the end and made out some learnings so that in next time you wont be doing the same mistake but ending up you would be doing it all over again and again.

Yes. Some people start betting aggressively after a big win. They think it's free money, so nothing forbids them from trying their luck more. However, there are some gamblers who take the winnings and withdraw them. Some of them come back and deposit a portion of their winnings to try their luck again, while others may use the funds wisely. If I talk about myself, I do both actually. If the win amount is kinda big, I use a small portion to place a few more bets and withdraw the rest. If the winning is not that big, I still continue to play. I believe most gamblers actually do the both depending on the winning amount and how much they are willing to risk.

But if you won big you will have the bankroll to care about of just become reckless so it is not dangerous though but if someone is in loss and just being reckless that can be extremely dangerous so I don't agree with the statement that winning is more dangerous than losing.

I am mixed of both, I will be careful if I won big but also I dare to take some risks that I would have never done if I haven't hit that big win.

Big wins won't suddenly make you smarter or careless, it's your knowledge and character as a person that has influence over your decision. It's just that most people don't know what to do once they win a huge amount of money. Addicted gamblers don't know when to quit and just keep on gambling with even higher bets, while some people just spend it on expensive stuff that they otherwise couldn't afford.

The problem isn't about winning- it's the mindset of the gambler on what he/she does with his winnings that determine whether it could make or break them further.

I personally know someone whom his parents are gambling addicts. It came to a point that her mother spends 2-3 days inside hotels of land-based casinos. Despite winning huge on some of her games, majority of the money won only recirculated back to the gambling establishment thereby incurring a loss on her part instead of just enjoying all of those prized money.

It makes me careless since I have more room for error/losses. My bets are much higher compared to my normal bet since I can afford to lose more.

But most of the time I withdraw immediately whenever I win huge. It’s very rare for me to play through my balance with my profit since I knew my behavior of being careless bettor when in profit.

I believe many of us here behave the same way when in profit since we can’t contain our greediness when we have more money to spend.

Of course, it's a confidence booster if you win; you think you are doing things right, and it's every gambler's wish to have a winning streak. This is where it gets complicated: if you misinterpret your win as a chance to regain your losses, it's like a trap.

I consider winning as something that happens when you hit it right. If it's a big win, you have to be wise or smart not to let it go, because it's very seldom that you win huge; you could lose it if you become careless and keep playing with the hope of regaining your past losses, because it's very rare to have continuous luck.

They could only be few players who made due positive changes with a big win. I could think of a CEO who after much cutback on profits gambled with organisation fund and won a jackpot, which he used to standardize his business. It's rare to find such a man in a nonbusiness minded gambler. Jackpot winners most of the times lose everything back to the house, the luxuries the money bought would be sold back to gamble more, they're numerous cases like this, which signifies how most players lack financial control

The smartest thing to do after a big win would be to continue with your betting strategy, without increasing or decreasing the amount wagered, and take some time to enjoy those winnings in other ways, or at least some of them. As the OP correctly pointed out, many people get a false sense of security that can lead to bigger losses, while others, even while protecting their investment, stop enjoying it due to the pressure of not losing what they've already gained. Yes, you are right, but I don't forget that I also need to withdraw my winnings and enjoy them. Betting after winning doesn't mean I will spend all the winnings and end up losing everything, small bets or several increased bets will sometimes also increase the balance. I know that it would be a big mistake for me to spend all my winnings just to chase bigger wins, but honestly losing 10% of it is not a big deal for anyone, right?
