The altseason usually follow Bitcoin bull market from what I have read. Based on that, we cannot expect altseason since Bitcoin is rather in serious crises now, losing over 50% of its price from the ATH. That is a major crash in price that will not be recovered easily. Hence the idea of altseason now is a dead matter. When we see Bitcoin enjoy clean bull season, then we can expect altseason to follow.

let's compare it to the current situation, or the altcoin condition during the 2025 bull run.
Bitcoin's dominance remains significantly higher to date, while seasonal altcoins have never been more dominant during this bull run. Most altcoins haven't experienced greater growth than BTC, and the total index of the top coins hasn't shown an increase exceeding the previous ATH, which was much larger.

So, in other words, for this season, I think there hasn't been an altseason (it hasn't happened).
I think it is too early to compare yet and even if we start better now, the situation can still change later on but Bitcoin's dominance should always remain on the top. There is such a thing as an altcoin season but it is only temporary and even if the altcoins are rallying, they won't still outperform Bitcoin on its number one spot.

There is no bull run yet on this year and many believes there won't be, if we follow the 4-year cycle. Altcoin season on the other hand must still be separated with the general bull run, so it may still be possible on this year. I think it didn't happen yet last year, or on older years. So that gives it a better chance to occur.
Surely, well,, the hope is that a special moment in the Alt Season will actually happen.
That's why I'm stating about it compared to the current situation.
And I also added some words that this season, the Alt Season hasn't happened yet, not just not happen.

At least the current facts are that the market is experiencing a drop. There's a lot of panic, and the market is already in a phase of extreme fear, with the IDNEX dropping to 8, and even reaching 5. And the alt season index is only at 25/100. But as you said, we don't know what will happen in the future this year.

Alt season is gone no matter what you think may happen to the market to bring them out of their slumber, the period of altcoin is and will never come back again even though the strength comes back. What do I mean, if any altcoin could do well in the space, that's the ones that usually old enough, to get ground in the space.

The days of holding those smaller altcoins with hope of getting pumps that will take you out of the trenches are over unfortunately. The crypto market is nearing stages of maturity so all those inorganic liquidity that once flowed into smaller altcoins are non-existent at this point. I just stick to Bitcoin and mid to large cap alts since they are the most +EV for the foreseeable future.

Yes, historically, altcoin seasons only come when bitcoin experiences strong growth. But given the current situation, bitcoin has fallen significantly from its peak and there seems to be no sign of a reversal yet. Therefore, expecting an altcoin season is a complete waste of time, and investing in them in a market as uncertain as it is now is not a wise decision.

We should forget about the altcoin season and focus on what can bring real profits, and that is Bitcoin.

That's hard to read by those who have invested a lot with the altcoins and have hoped it will come. The bull run's time is ticking like a bomb and it's about to end soon. But let's just hope that we're wrong in it to give that window for those who are waiting for it. Not a false hope though but some acceptance of the reality that the cycle is done and if it's not, then it might change and some bullishness could still be seen in some altcoins. Yes, not all of it will be seen to be good and that's why it's best to not assume so much with altcoins and its season anymore.

Sure and for that difficulty for altcoins to raise after a hard market, that makes us to focus more on new projects with the hypes, for investors there is need to look out for coins that could make head ways in the market and never fails to take action when the market is still in green, since majority of the altcoins will not rise again even if we eventually see the altcoins season.

I remember back in 2014 and even 2017, altseason was easy. You just bought anything on bittrex and it went up. It didn't matter what the coin did. Now, it feels totally different and much harder. There are way too many coins now and most of them just seem to bleed against BTC forever.

From what I see, the big money only cares about a few things like ETH or SOL. The rest of the market feels like a trap because of all these new tokens unlocking every month. I think waiting for everything to pump at the same time might be a mistake. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think we get that 2014 feeling again where every random coin 10x in a week.

Personally, I've been moving back into BTC and the bigger alts. I'm tired of holding mid-caps that just go down even when BTC is doing okay. I’ve seen too many projects die since I joined this forum, so I'm playing it safe now. Are you guys still holding your small bags or did you give up on them?
nah your defo not crazy old altseason was easy mode not like ow its is so oversaturated and most small caps just bleed while btc just chills. Big money is picky not spraying liquidity everywhere. rotating back to majors makes sense aswell I still keep tiny moonbags for attaches but im not expecting magic to be honest market changed so just gotta play smarter not nostalgic

To be more precise, the era of getting rich quickly with crypto is over. The crypto market is transforming and entering a new phase, and only serious projects can survive and thrive. Capital flows also becoming more selective and prudent, flowing only into projects with solid foundations and real potential. Therefore, we also need to change our mindset and strategies to adapt, otherwise we will be left behind.

Because this is a transitional phase, there will be many changes and fluctuations in the market. Therefore, the best approach is to invest only in top projects like BTC or ETH to minimize risk.

There is nothing like altcoins season again and we and what we should be looking is for the price of Bitcoin to increase so that the altcoins market can flourish. It would be understandable if people take their mindset away from hoping to see any thing like altcoin market because it is no more coming especially this year or next year.

Correction, they might have went up in bittrex before they crashed and burned.

At some point bittrex was very similar to Cryptsy in terms of listing anything that paid them. So they listed every pump and dump out there and took zero responsibility of the quality. At the time, during 2014 there was more manageable amount of those coins to keep track.

Supply of "altcoins" has raised more then actual demand of anything. There are countless exit scams that happen before being listed to coinmarketcap. And "tribes" of altcoin supporters and have fragmented all over so much. That there aren't enough support for everything. At least not with these marketcap prices. in 2014 you didn't need $100m marketcap to be nr2 in there. These days under $100m MC is considered to be either undervalued or failed.

I would like to say that altcoin is not dead, altcoin is still existing but the point is that altcoin can never be like it used to be a few years back, and the reason is that there are many more altcoin projects nowadays than there were in 2014 and 2017. So, with that reasoning, altcoin will never be like it used to be, because when there were fewer altcoins, money was being pumped into them, and that is the reason the altcoin season was really great.

But now, since there are so many projects, the money is divided among them and does not show much growth, as much money is not being invested. Another reason is that most altcoin projects coming into the crypto industry end up being pump-and-dump projects, so many people are becoming cautious. Some of these altcoins are being used for short-term gains, and because of that, people are not investing much in altcoins again. So, it is only a few altcoin projects that are growing, and even those will continue to grow gradually,it will never be like before.

While it's true for this year, because we are in the bear market right now, I would not say it's over forever.

I can still see plenty of retail investors putting in millions of dollars into small silly little things, some are meme, some are shitcoins, and yet there is money to be made by a few who do that with high risk and most people losing. Not saying that it's impossible, of course it could be possible, just saying that it is not going to be that easy at all, and will have some differences.

i would point out it to be hard or even impossible for those without insides and such. or without a bag big enough to have the influence needed.

I am fully agreed to you. Altcoins are not similar like before. Now, thousands of coins are producing daily and we don't know which one to invest. Binance is also a scam shit right now. Their manipulation is becoming a habit now. Making profit has become so much harder. Most of the trader has lost his 50-75% capital. Although, CZ predicted about a super cycle but I don't think we are getting any bull market soon.

While that is true, it won't be easy and it's a rare thing. Getting rich with crypto quickly is not something to aim, it's not going to make it possible for you, it will cause a lot of trouble and we are not going to see this be a great thing for us in the future. I know it is not the best way to move forward, after all we are talking about something that will not be easy, but as long as we deal with this, it is not going to end up being a great deal for us.

Yeah, it's a tough one and I know it's not what people want, but getting rich quick is gone. Those tiny little memecoin stuff that only few get lucky are all made so that devs behind it could get your money and nothing more, it will not be a way to make money for any of us.

If by "altseason" you mean whitepapers spawning everywhere, pretending to provide utility while actually just being a rugpull paradise, then yes, I'm quite confident we're past that. Bye Bye, Felicia.

Will there still be altcoin pumps? Of course. Human psychology cannot be defeated. The next altseason will probably be privacy-related. That's a significant improvement, but it'll still be just for the money. They always end up to bitcoin.

What is all this talk of altseason being dead? Where have you guys been? I just watched Solana go from $20 to $250. If that wasn’t altseason, what do you call it? I know I made a bag off this altseason and I’m already starting to dollar cost average buy for the next altseason with the expectation we’re heading lower this year. Next altseason starts in less than a year and people are still watching for the last one…

I hold onto some altcoins that I believe are worthwhile. The appreciation isn't like during the so-called altcoin season, but they've remained relatively stable. The projects have matured, so they're not as volatile as before; perhaps that's why it's not like it used to be.

I'd forgotten about Bittrex; I used it a lot until it shut down. Thanks for reminding me, OP; those were good times.

It was too easy because not everyone knew about altcoins. There weren't any VCs or big institutional investors back then. Nowadays, everybody knows about alts and are heavily invested into them. With too many holders, and little buyers (low demand), don't expect market prices to go all the way to the moon. I guess that's why altcoin season has been delayed. Even with a "bullish" Bitcoin, altcoins have been struggling to reach a new ATH. ETH is one of them.

If this keeps up, both retail and institutional investors will refrain from getting involved into alts. Then, their "doom" will be certain. I'll wait a little longer to see what happens.
