I have been thinking about this lately

Is it possible to start cleaning or deleting my own posts without getting penalised for it?
I look back on my past posts and there are few ones I don't like, is it free to delete on my own?

Posts= 280
Activity= 280

If I delete past posts it will affect my activity right? But I don't mind, because I suck at one time in the past, all that I think should happen is lower activity dragging me back but I will in return have a cleaner account.

Any moderator can verify if this is something I can do on my own or avoid?

There is no penalty at all if you delete some of your past posts or even all of them. Feel free to do it at any time. It's mostly your activity score that may be affected, and probably rank too if you delete too many/almost all of them

lol @5W-KILO what's with everyone suddenly wanting to scrub their history
you think deleting a post here makes it vanish from the internet archive or something get real

yeah no penalty bitcoin_arena already said that
your post count will drop your rank might too if you nuke enough of them but who gives a shit about those metrics anyway
just post better stuff moving forward instead of trying to erase your past mistakes
it's all part of the journey man we all had garbage posts back in the day
learn from it not delete it

There is no need to look back at the past. When we first entered the forum, most of the people's post quality may not have been good, due to inexperience, the initial posts seem like spam. If you see the gap between those spam posts of the past and the quality of the current posts, you will understand how much you have improved. Do not be ashamed or annoyed about the past, but force yourself to think about the present. Gaining experience starts from inexperience, if suddenly you seem like an experienced poster, then it will be suspicious.

Here is your answer ;

Can activity or my rank decrease?

Yes. It can only decrease if you have all the posts you made from a particular period deleted or the threads you posted in trashcanned. If you do it's possible to drop rank until you have enough activity again.

If I delete past posts it will affect my activity right? But I don't mind, because I suck at one time in the past, all that I think should happen is lower activity dragging me back but I will in return have a cleaner account.

Any moderator can verify if this is something I can do on my own or avoid?
Above I have added the guidelines for deleting your old post. But wondering, is it really necessary to delete all the posts unless it's obvious spam? Those posts, do you think, were obvious spam? Better clean them, but it's not mandatory. A person would be inexperienced at the beginning and developing day by day; it doesn't matter, or it's nothing negative at all. But if you do so, then definitely your ranks and activities would drop accordingly.

Though there is no penalty on that, but I would advise not to so that you can easily track your progress in the future, and compare your old posts on your new posts, that way you can say to yourself that your knowledge has grown and your posting ability has improved.

No need to to clean your account, the moderator will definitely understand it. Focus on what you can give at the present, something that creates more impact and quality to the rest of your co-members, let the old posts give you lessons and mold you on what you are right now.

You will not receive any penalties for deleting your posts, it is your right to delete them for whatever reason. However, your activity may decrease because your posts are related to your activity, and deleting too many of them will lower your rank until you have enough activity. So, it is best to only delete posts that you think are worth deleting, there is no need to delete so many.

Your account won't be penalized in means of ban if you delete your own posts. However, it can be banned if you made plagiarism posts, deleted it by yourself or spread malicous things through your posts, then deleted them. Depends on moderators, they can apply forum rules to ban your account.

Quote
I look back on my past posts and there are few ones I don't like, is it free to delete on my own?
You are free to do this, but remember posts have two types
Normal posts like reply to other posts: You can delete them easily, and anytime.
Posts are as Opening Posts of a thread: you can not delete them.

Quote
If I delete past posts it will affect my activity right? But I don't mind, because I suck at one time in the past, all that I think should happen is lower activity dragging me back but I will in return have a cleaner account.
It depends and you will understand more by reading.
FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit

Every 14 days, your account will have maximum 14 activity points if you make enough 14 posts but you won't get more than 14 activity points if you make more than 14 posts. That means, if you make 13 posts during 14 days, and you delete any of 13 posts, your activity points will drop. However, if you made 15 or 30 posts in 14 days, later you delete your posts for example from 30 to 14 posts or from 15 to 14 posts, your total activity points in that 14-days will not drop.

Yes, it will affect your activity, and if your activity drops below the requirement for Member rank, your rank will also drop, and you'll become a Jr. Member. Also, just a reminder, the posts that you'll delete aren't really gone since we have forum members that run scrapers here that archive the posts here in the forum.

There's no penalty for that, but what's the point?I think you can easily see any time how "bad" I was in the past. Besides, 3rd-party archiving tools record everything.

But that's up to you, just skip posts that contain your BTC wallet to which you still have the keys, especially if you've already staked that address in this forum. More addresses are actually good too.

You don’t get penalized for deleting own post, it only gets recorded for you as post deleted by yourself as against post deleted by the moderators and that’s just data entry.

Is it entirely necessary that you delete your history when it doesn’t matter much if you let it stay? Posts like you are referring shows how you started, how far you’ve come and you’ll get to define where you need to be. In essence, it shows your growth phase or tells a story about you.

It’s entirely up to you on either you get to delete or not but, there isn’t any consequences about it outside your activity count.

Yes. I don't remember any discussion about someone got penalised by moderator/admin for deleting his own post. But remember than this forum doesn't let us delete our own thread.

I did the same thing myself once. I registered on the forum to participate in the bounty, and, one might say, unknowingly, I did not fully appreciate the value of the forum. But the time has come to realize this, and I regretted the time spent on the bounty, and completely deleted all the useless reports and messages that I considered complete garbage for the forum.
Therefore, I welcome your initiative. However, you should understand that your messages will remain archived in case you are just trying to hide something.

You can do that. In some cases, where deleting posts might be prohibited, you can just edit the post and replace it with an empty character.

It will affect your activity, and you might drop rank.

There's definitely not any wrongdoing by cleaning up a mess. You do not get penalized by the cleaner if you do their job.  Wink

good point actually.

Alternatively the OP can delete the posts in question on a gradual basis rather than in
one big block, that way as the rak grows on the forum the affect of deleting posts gradually
will be less dramatic.

This is something I have done in the past to lets say 'clean up what I posted previously'

You don't need to delete your posts to prove you've changed your perception about the forum. Change is seen in your afterward posts. Although, you can still choose to delete your posts if you want to without being penalised but that's unnecessary because they aren't permanently deleted. People can still access them when the need arises.

It's good to admit your flaws in the past and open a great new chapter. There are some reputable members here today that started poorly but later improved and they didn't bother deleting their old posts. You can do the same and become an example for others in the future.

Besides, getting rid of old posts in large quantities usually raises suspicion. I suggest you move on.

lol @5W-KILO what's with everyone suddenly wanting to scrub their history
you think deleting a post here makes it vanish from the internet archive or something get real

Quote from: 5W-KILO
Is it possible to start cleaning or deleting my own posts without getting penalised for it?

yeah no penalty bitcoin_arena already said that
your post count will drop your rank might too if you nuke enough of them but who gives a shit about those metrics anyway
just post better stuff moving forward instead of trying to erase your past mistakes
it's all part of the journey man we all had garbage posts back in the day
learn from it not delete it

Is there anyone else wanting to do the same? I know that deleted posts aren't really gone but that's not why I want to do this, since someone ( knowngunman) said there is really no need and another said that they also created crap posts when were newbie on the forum I am thinking twice about this decision.

Maybe I should just leave things the way they are then.

I don't see any reason to delete old posts, because these are what one can look back on and see how they have improved. It can also encourage newbies to understand that it takes time and hard work to improve.

Nobody just became a genius; there was a starting point that, if you look back, can be very funny, and it is a sign to show one how they have improved over all this time. I don't think posts for discussion should be deleted because it is not necessary. I think people should learn from your past when you don't even need to explain to them how far you have come.

If you think you've done wrong, then you're free to delete your post, but remember it will affect your post count and might affect your rank as well if you've deleted it too much.
You're not alone with that, if you check my profile on bpip.org, I have 510 deleted posts and 14 posts deleted by the moderators.

As your profile, ( https://bpip.org/Profile?p=5W-KILO ). (scroll down below you'll see)
  • Posts deleted by moderators: 20
  • Posts made per post deleted: 14

Nope- most people do it all the time whenever they feel like deleting their past posts. There is no penalty or any punishment for doing such act given that nowhere in the rules was there a stipulation on this matter.

I think the biggest incentive in deleting old posts is if it contributes to a spam or something that is irrelevant on the matter. Additionally, some moderators delete your comments if your reply is totally out of line; or your post has nothing to do with the thread you're discussing with.

While I do agree that it encourages you to do better and to improve your post quality, feel free to delete it whenever you deemed it necessary.
