Just trying to catch up with some F1 news, seems it will be a very different race from any season before? Time to try out some volatile strategy from the get go, no? I personally don't understand what the fuss is with half-sustainable half-fossil fuel... it's a race, and if they really wanted to change the world, it's the car industry that needs to do it as a whole (and they're not interested).

Sadly we live in a world where you ahve to follow whatever is "trend". So sports also make his way on it and as result we have this full politics into sports.

I've already signed up and am looking forward to the start and the new betting format, even though I'm still a little unsure about how it works 😜. We're starting in Melbourne, but after that it could get a bit boring if the war in the Middle East continues and Formula 1 can't race.

Is gonna be fun to see the results for the first round, i can expect a lot of surprises since we dont really know how the drivers and teams are gonna behave.

About the cancelation of races, i still think the war is gonna stop before, im already in talks with.... FIA and a few others involved, i was very clear with them " Come one man we need to run the F1 madness, i dont want to give you deadlines".

As I understand it, the 4th and 5th stages are in question - Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in early April. Judging by how events are developing now, I would assume that these stages will be cancelled/postponed.

Just because it doesnt give any extra point in the oficcial F1 and plus since we already have a lot of other forms of grab points i decided to not count it, plus some times is a total random thing since a driver can end with the fastest lap for a lucky factor and not because they were the fastest.

Well guys im gonna tag again some of the people who take part in the past F1 pool, to some of them i send also a PM just in case anyone doesnt have the notification bot. Some others i notice are not longer active in the forum sadly, i hope they come back.

Until now we are 16 users which is good but im gonna aim to be at least 20. I hope we can sum a few more.

I have never watched an F1 race in my life. Maybe I’ve caught a few laps in passing, but I’ve never intentionally tried to watch the sport or had an interest in following it. From what I’ve gleaned, I think I might be able to have some level of success by looking at statistics. For the first race I didn’t do a very deep analysis. I mostly just made picks based on last season’s final standings.

In my case i feel really uncomfortable betting on F1, since you can always have imponderable like a engine failure a crash, a puncture a crash from other driver and a safety car which kills you race, etc. About last season statistic this time are not gonna be so much usefull since in this season we have whole new rules for the cars but well the powerfull teams are gonna be always there.

I really cant believe this is happening, is one of the biggest failures ever in F1 if its real, we are not talking about a minor team, we are talking about a team who puts a ton of money and years in development.

The quiet ones are always the ones in top spot, and you, my friend, you are doing so well in football pools I fear you will equally obliterate me in this one.

These nerve damages due to vibration are no joke!!! I know for someone who never experienced it or has seen it from someone else, it is hard to believe.

In summer 2018 I did a lot of woodwork with a chainsaw. Like two weeks straight and the vibrations go through the hands into your shoulders.

Shoulder amyotrophy (muscle wasting) associated with chainsaw use is a severe manifestation of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) or related neuro-musculoskeletal injuries, stemming from long-term exposure to high-frequency vibration and awkward, static postures. While vibration primarily affects the hands and fingers (Vibration White Finger), it causes significant, often under-recognized, damage to the nerves and muscles of the shoulder, upper arm, and neck.

It was so crazy that I literally wanted to die because of the pain and there is almost nothing you can do against it. The nerves are dying as the myelin sheath, the protection around the nerve, is damaged and there is nothing to stop it until it stops by itself.

So I read the headline too, and I could immediately relate. Constant vibrations are such a knockout criteria that I understood why the news said Aston Martin is dead in the water if they can't stop this problem. Even if the drivers do well for a couple of races, the chance that they are fucked halfway through the season is quite high.

So all we are going to add here is to choose between top tier to bottom tier, like tier 1 to 4 and I saw a simple one option answer in each of them, it looks nice but I think it is only for prediction of qualifying this one, maybe in race we will have a new choice to choose from or what will do, I read a bit the rules but as I said looks like complicated until we do it for a couple of times and then for me it will be crystal clear. Personally I think it can be interesting this tier thing which is really neat as we are also choosing which of the drivers will do better in lower tiers and not randomly choosing ten drivers for ten spots of prizes here, also the new regulation seems to have many cars in the same level at least in official testing, let's see how this unfold and I would really appreciate some more explanation regarding the picks.

I think this is the most uncertain season in recent years. The new regulations are working, although nobody understands them 100%, Hamilton said. 

Think the idea one of the teams (user) mentioned a few posts earlier (submitting without watching the practice sessions) might actually be better than waiting for them, especially considering the qualifying schedule relative to Practice 3.

Hi swogerino thanks for taking part, and yes they are super simple, the text is super long because i tried to have very detail info about "what if" and we know in F1 we can have a lot of that. But is super simple the system and the choices.

About the picks, they are only one, and have to be made before the qualy because of how the puntuaction system works.

IF i allow after qualy picks most of us are gonna select the same drivers knowing they can score a lot more of points and that is gonna kill the vibe of the contest.

For example if Verstappen have a bad qualy, we all know he is gonna pass all the field from behind so everyone is gonna select him for tier 1 and that makes no so much sense and is not gonna be fun.

Putting the pick before the qualy gives us not so much info and we are gonna be more under the randomness of the race.

Let me know if i wasnt clear because of my english.

Ok now I realize how complex this is. During my finance studies in St. Gallen I was totally fine applying the Black-Scholes formula for option pricing,

I pick a driver that I think will be in a team finishing this 1st-2nd in Constructors' Standings, if my pick doesn't end up there, zero points for my Tier 1 pick?

Total=P+((S−F)×Multiplier)

(S - F): Starting position minus Finishing position.

Does this refer to each race after qualifying? Like Verstappen ends up position 8 in qualifying, then wins the race, meaning S-F = 7 or does it mean when Vertappen is Constructor position 1 after race no. 1 and wins the second race, it is S - F = 1 - 1 = 0?

Tiers 1 & 2: x1.0
Tiers 3 & 4: x1.5

Tiers 3 & 4 is harder to guess, therefore higher multiplier?

No, they can end in any other position, maybe my wording is bad, but the constructor standings is only to build the diferent tiers for selection, but for the race and points has nothing to do with it (aside of the multiplier).

Tiers 1 & 2: x1.0
Tiers 3 & 4: x1.5

Yes.

Now that I read it again, since we have to submit before the qualifying, what is S? Is it 0 for every team before the first race of the season?

S = start position in the grid of the driver.


Lets put an example.

You pick Norris. Norris qualify 5º and starts the races in that position so S for Norris is 5.
Norris ends the race in 3º position so he gets, the 15 officials points from postion (P), and (Start positions (S)-Finish positions (F)) in this case is (5-3)= 2 x Multiplier (in this case is 1.0 since they are the better teams and it was a no sense to give them a multiplier ). So norris scores for you 15+2=17.


And the points for the round for you is the sum of your 4 drivers.


Im gonna tag the people who didnt submit yet since we already pass the two first practice and the deadline is qualy. Be carefull you cant submit your picks after it, the form close in an automatic way at the hour of the start of the qualy.
