I have been gambling for the past ten years now and seriously I must say I have lost more than I have profited thou it feels as if I should keep on trying so I can recover back my losses but that's the more money I keep on losing sometimes I will delete the app to free myself from it then during the week ends my friends will show me some nice games asking if I have interest in it then the spirit comes and I will download back the app and I will go back to what has been eating me up is so addicting that I called the app my daily food.
Some persons out there might be facing the same situation and it is affecting there state of mind and how they live there life's the fact is to just let go you can't recover those losses is gone just accept defeat and move on though is hard but you have to that's what I did
I am just interested to know why it is difficult for you to say NO to gambling even after the numerous losses. For someone like me, if I am seen losing so much, I will quit for the sake of my mental health. Do you have a job? Are you battling any issue that makes you so fixed on gambling? It this is the case, you should address your issues from the root. If you feel you are already addicted, go seek professional help. Talk to families and friends because they are all you need right now.
I think those who have been addicted before just like me quit gambling because we don't have money. What I mean is that I lose my job and my side hustle, and so the financial source was shutdown in front of me and so I just quit gambling like that. So maybe that is the reason that maybe the OP can sustained that incredible run of being addicted or playing at least 10 years straight. Is that he had a good job or maybe a business that keeps the money flowing on him. Just maybe, if everything stops, he might have to think his life over and then just stop gambling because he don't have the capital to continue. In any case though, with capital or good flow of money, if someone knows that he is falling into the trap of being addicted, then he should stop for mental and financial health.

Seriously speaking you have entered one chance and the earlier you start thinking of a possible way out of the shit you have put yourself in the better for you, you might be taking it very casual but I believe you're not aware of the mess you're in.

However, lost chasing has always been a smooth path to was gambling addiction and I believe these has been discussed several times on this thread yet people are still falling victim of it. Anyway, the least you can do that will be of help is to first kill the greed in you, secondly let go of your lost and forget about it, move on without looking back and everything will be fine.

What you should be more concerned on is on how to help yourself first before talking about someone else, as a matter of fact you presently need help more than anyone so pay more attention on your self is just an advise.

I have this friend who came complaining to me about a week ago how the bets he's making are ruining his finances and he hasn't being able to save money since this year started despite how he's working and making money weekly from his job. I told him to get rid of his sports betting App and avoid even discussions with people talking about the next games and possible outcomes because from there he can be tempted to get back to gamble. which he did uninstalled the app.

On the 14th February which was Valentine Day, we were all having a little get together to celebrate and have fun with love ones. Then I noticed he was subtly making a bet again. I didn't approach him immediately, but later talked to him about seeing a counselor who's specialised in addiction problem if he really wants to stop gambling. Sometimes, stopping gambling can't be done alone by our very effort, we need the help of a specialist. And that's exactly what I can also advise the OP to do.
It's better not to be addicted because fighting addiction is not an easy battle. Something will always trigger you to return to the behavior you have vowed to abandon. When gambling takes a percentage of your earnings to the extent that you don't have extra to save, it is better to evaluate the situation. Other types of games could be used to substitute for gambling if you use betting as entertainment. Getting another job is also better than using gambling as an alternative source of income. The time that is used to engage in analysis and predict games could be invested in something that could yield gains.

You gave your friend the right advice; he should see a professional. He could also decide not to use phones that can be used for betting for some time and see if he could overcome addiction.

Advice will never take effect on gamblers who never change their mindset as well. In fact, we heard much advice in the forum, yet many are still addicted. Are these people learning, or do they just follow their emotions? They are following what they believe would credit them, despite their actions being wrong. Trying to beat the casino when it was impossible. So no wonder they are in regret and blaming themselves, because they are at fault.

This is the truth: gamblers will only change when they are already facing a financial crisis.

It's just that you haven't make up your mind enough to quit or take a new turn on the gambling, you are still very stuck at something that will wals make you go back, you have to develop the discipline to quit even when you have your friends around that will make you go back to gambling again even them will mind the way they tell you about gambling because of the new leave you will turn and that will also affect their feelings not to give you tickets or talk about gambling around you. You have to decide first, you don't want for any helps. if you can't then seek your friends help to stop instead of them being the trigger they will be the help you need to stop.

I completely agree with you that quitting gambling is a tough decision. But remember just saying I will quit does not solve all the problem. Addiction is a psychological disease. In my opinion the first thing to do is to admit your problem and then seek help from friends, family or a professional. Because winning this battle alone is very difficult loneliness will push you further into the darkness

You could completely blocking yourself or self excluding yourself from all gambling site or app so that you do not make any wrong move in a hurry. Apart from that you need to keep a tight rein on your pocket for example, give control of your money to someone you trust blindly, could be your parents or wife. And avoid place or situation that provoke you to bet. You can even join a group that always does many social activities voluntarily. This is a support network of people which will teach you to live in a new way and give you motivation to change gambling habit

One thing comes to mind after reading your post and that's "discipline". You know the negative side of gambling and how it has only affected your finances negatively but you still choose to keep trying to win back what you lost but rather lost everything in the process. There was a certain time I was struggling with discipline on my gambling habit as it cost me a lot of money but I could overcome it with better coordination, setting a target and improved spending habits.
That’s right, this is a very common outcome when a gambler lacks discipline and self control. It becomes very easy to let go off losses, chasing it becomes the only option, and on the process resort to even more losses thereby defeating the sole purpose of actually embarking on such quest in the first place. And this is exactly what happens when gamblers gamble with money they can’t afford to lose or money meant for something else, because if it were money that was discretionary, then letting go wouldn’t be so hard.

The thing is, people like him wants extra funds aside their weekly or monthly pay check and the greatest undoing of them all is that of those who ventured into gambling just for that purpose. It takes more from you than it adds to that unsatisfied amount you earn from that your job. . But upon addiction, this logic can't be contemolated on.

While it's about making extra funds I don't think others types of activities which doesn't give funds would be appropriate instead, getting into another menial jobs or selling of skills online can provide that extra income but people just want what would come easily and fast, and they think gambling offers that.

I had to do what's right for him, it's left for him to show commitment towards helping himself from there.

At a point of loss, when a gambler observes his gambling condition carefully and wants to take a break from gambling, this situation is now very normal. You should definitely take a decision considering your own condition. If you give up gambling and accept it on the words of someone else, then you will have to lose a lot for it. If you lose, your friends will not help you. If you take a decision on their words, then your condition cannot be improved. Since you have not been able to achieve anything by gambling for a long time, you should only take a decision on your own by understanding your condition. If you have a losing mentality, then gambling is for you. If you chase losses or try to gain more from gambling after losing, then this is the main reason for your losses.

Based on what you have experienced, I conclude that you are still unable to completely refrain from gambling, which has clearly caused you to lose a lot of money.

The fact that you tried to stay away from it but ended up getting drawn back in again is a sign that you are still unable to completely break free from gambling.

It's the same with my friend who wanted to break free, but all he did was block his account. The result was the same as yours, he came back with a new account that he created. Perhaps that indicates that his addiction is no longer a trivial matter.

Quitting gambling and taking a break from gambling is too different thing. When gambling becomes a problem that it becomes difficult to stay without it the best decision would be to quit and during this period hanging with friends that are into gambling isn't a good thing as this will lure or push us back to it.
OP you failed to gamble with what you can afford to lose that is the reason why you started chasing after what you have lost with the mindset of winning it back however you end up in more losses.

After 10 years, he still doesn't realize that gambling is not for him, or maybe now he has realized it & admitted that all those losses will never come back, except by working like he should. The first aid for him was that he had to stay away from his friends, that's what made him try again & again.

hopefully your words actually mean something and not just temporary words you tell yourself because you have already lost. you have got to back up your claim with actions. but at least you already have realized what is to be done.

From my experience you don't have to quit gambling because you gamble irresponsibly, what you need to do is change your gambling strategies and you will be surprised that your addiction will gradually stop. Most gamblers that gambles for fun are hardly addicted to it, I use myself as an example because I've realized that you can hardly become rich through gambling so I take gambling matters very casually.

It is quite simple gamble with amount that you can afford to loose and be disciplined not to go beyond that amount, if you can do this you won't chase loses. If you cannot have control over your bankroll then you will be chasing loses and become addicted, if you don't fund your gambling you cannot gamble. If you don't have what it takes to be in control of your bankroll and time to spend in gambling maybe you need to take a break or quit instead of being addicted, it is difficult but you have to try.

Some persons out there might be facing the same situation and it is affecting there state of mind and how they live there life's the fact is to just let go you can't recover those losses is gone just accept defeat and move on though is hard but you have to that's what I did
Take gambling as entertainment and you will get rid of the addiction. If you consider gambling as a means of earning money, then you will not get rid of gambling addiction. Always remember that gambling is for entertainment and not for earning money. Moreover, use a very small amount of your income, such as 1%-5% of your income, then you will not become addicted and you can take gambling as entertainment. If you do not try on your own, then you will never be able to get out of gambling addiction. From your description, I understand that you are completely addicted to gambling. So I tell you that you always take gambling as entertainment and use money according to your ability to lose.

The fact is, no gambler has ever recovered all their losses; they may recover half of their losses, but their greediness will make them continue playing in the hope of recovering their loses and in the end, they will lose their winnings and their losses increases that will make it impossible to recover because of how huge the amount has accumulated over time.
It's a bad motivation or plan to think that you can try to recover your losses, no one has done it, many have tried and all failed and they failed miserably.

Even though you didn't state in your post that you are addicted to gambling, I want to tell you for free that you have become a gambling addict, and it's not easy for you to quit gambling. I would advise you to open up to your loved ones and tell them what you are currently going through in gambling so that they will deploy an alternative that will help you overcome it. Since your friend is one of the factors that influences you to gamble when you have decided not to gamble, I would also advise you to distance yourself from him on weekends so that he won't influence you to gamble.

This would kind of help OP because, as the saying goes, "evil communication corrupts good manners." Here, OP has resolved to abstain from gambling for some time, but his constant communication with that particular friend of his is kind of limiting his goals towards being gambling-free, and this can affect him emotionally and psychologically. Maybe he could just do away with that friend of his, just like I said in my previous post, and block all gambling site and ads on his phone and computer so he can not be able to access anything casino platform and lastly, OP should get himself very much engaged with activities that could keep him busy mentally as well so he does not think or remember anything gambling and gradually he would be free from gambling addiction.

Addiction is never to be played with, because it does not serve any benefit to us than to later harm us, some may not not the later consequences of being addicted until they begin to see its results emancipating in the future, which they will definitely not like at all, that is why we have to plan for a modelled kind of lifestyle in gambling by being responsible, it does not end there, we also have to be a disciplined gambler.

This is the truth: gamblers will only change when they are already facing a financial crisis.

This is when the person hasn't yet become ill (addicted). When the person is in their right mind and in good mental health, they can see that if they continue gambling, they will sink even further, and therefore they can stop gambling early. But when they are ill (addicted), they won't stop; they will sell everything, take out loans, steal to continue gambling. Only if they are arrested, admitted to a rehabilitation clinic, or die will they stop gambling.

I don`t know how to live with addiction. But i think that rules are the same for all kinds.
First of all you need to stop. Stop and think. The best situation if you have friends, family - someone, who can hear you, give some advice and support you.
After it you must develop a plan/strategy how to change your life, how to solve problems you have due to addiction. And step by step change yourself.
Easy to say, hard to do.

I am of the opinion that a person who has been that badly into gambling addiction will attempt to continue doing so even when inside a rehab clinic. Of course it does not have to be like that and it can be stopped at a much early level.

It is definitely possible that the person can come out of gambling and very rarely such situation happen that they have to enter rehab clinics.

Planning this before you start gambling is usually not the case, in which case educating those who are gambling and making them aware of the risks is what we can do.

When a person has suffered from addiction, it becomes difficult for them to stop. They often seem unaware that their gambling is causing them to suffer. Their thinking has been changed, and their orientation is to gamble again to win. I think it takes a psychologist who conducts addiction therapy, supported by the family. It requires a long and gradual process, and it's difficult. Sometimes therapy alone is not enough to cure them, and then they commit crimes to satisfy their addiction. This happens a lot in my country. They spend their wealth, property, and even steal to fulfill their addictive desires.
