Over the years, I have used multiple wallets for different purposes. If I remember correctly, I started with trustwallet (I know it might be the worst decision ever) but later shifting towards electrum. After that I started testing different wallets just out of curiosity, like bluewallet, exodus and the most recent one was cakewallet. But among these, electrum has been the most favourite one.

However, my good to go wallet is Coinomi. Yeah, I know most users here don't like it. I've been using it for eight years now without any ish. I can customize my fee on it.

I haven't used this one. Would you be able to share the link of it please?

Since I started using electrum wallet it has not fail me and I will continue using electrum wallet to hodl my BTC for long years. I like wallet that make BTC safe when hodling for long years, because there is nothing like fear of scammers stealing your BTC from your wallet compared to other wallets scammers use to break through easily to steal people coins.
As long as you download Electrum from its official website and verify your download, then you can be sure you have a great open source bitcoin wallet. But from then on, safety and security depends on you, the user, and not the wallet software. It is the user who ensures their device isn't infected with malware, it's the user who ensures their seed phrase is safely backed up and not exposed, it is the responsibility of the user to have good operational security.

Except in badly built closed source wallets, scammers do not just "break into people's wallet" like you say, it is the users who through their actions or inaction give scammers the room to steal their coins.

No one who can afford a hardware wallet or cold wallet/air-gapped setup should seriously invest in cryptocurrencies. This is not about something that costs thousands of $, but about something that can be achieved with $50 or less.
I was just about to write the same, thinking that I might sound like a douche.   Cheesy

But seriously, whoever can't afford $50 for a hardware wallet can't afford investing in bitcoin neither. Ok, I understand that in some countries it ain't easy to get one, or that you maybe don't need a hardware wallet if you jusy bought your first bitcoin and still figuring things out, but for everyone else it is imho a must. That or airgapped setup.

There are already hacking incidents associated with Trust Wallet extension, so Trust Wallet is not safe for long-term holding now.

I wonder, what does Unstoppable wallet offer that premium features?

- Duress mode (meaning if you're threatened to enter your wallet PIN for example, you would end up in another wallet that contains no funds)
- Adress checking: this helps you check if the address you're sending funds to is suspicious (they use chainAnlysis and some other public blacklisted DBs IIRC).
- Trading signals or something of that sort.

The first two features are quite useful, but, not something the average user cannot live without.

I have used unstoppable in the past for holding Bitcoin till I was able to afford a hardware wallet, I don't even know that they had a duress mode feature to protect funds.

How do duress mode works exactly? Like running two whatsapp using parallel space or something similar?

Also Unstoppable wallet has VPN, which till this day I can't find any tangible explanation to why they do this, since you can't mix Bitcoin transaction in the wallet as if you are using a mixer I don't see how the Tor VPN can come in handy or maybe I missed something.

Which free Bitcoin wallet is best recommendable for someone who can't afford hardware wallet? Between Electrum and Unstoppable wallet, I choose these two because they are the best open source wallet that I can find, free on mobile to be precise, not PC.
All bitcoin software wallets are free, you can only pay for hardware wallets like Trezor.
You can't really compare Unstoppable and Electrum wallet, since once is multicoin wallet with exchange, and Elecrtum is bitcoin-only wallet.
There is no such thing as one best wallet for everyone, because we all want different things from wallets.
If I need multicoin wallet I would probably use Cake wallet because it has advanced privacy features.

Don't sweat it. It's on Playstore. In case you find it difficult to find, here's a link – https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coinomi.wallet. It's a crypto wallet and not a Bitcoin exclusive wallet per se. I just needed to add that part in case you were thinking it's a Bitcoin only wallet.

Yes, other opinion will be valid, but you can aswell test them yourself. Either use small amount of Bitcoin to test, or you can use Bitcoin Testnet on Electrum to test the features without needing real money. If you are looking for a Bitcoin only wallet, just stick with Electrum, except you have other plan of accumulating several cryptocurrency along side Bitcoin.

None taken. I was just being careful. These days we have no storage of fake apps. And since you were personally using it, with your 8 years of experience, you were the best person to ask for the valid source. Hopefully I was able to make my point. Lastly, thanks, I'll install it (for testing purpose)

Lol where do I go now? Tongue Neither I could buy a hardware wallet nor I have that amount to put it into a HW (sarcasm intended). Wish I could use one, at least for once. Making an airgapped device is still manageable though, but I haven't tried it yet.

There are already hacking incidents associated with Trust Wallet extension, so Trust Wallet is not safe for long-term holding now.

You made mentioned of good wallets but I lost it when you included Trust wallet. That's a terrible wallet and it's a closed source, that's a molded wallet by Binance, same wallet that scoop millions of dollars some months ago through their wallet extentions. It was later found out that there was a developer that has a backdoor and stole money from their. If this was to be an open source wallet, that would have been exposed at first glance the update was shipped for public used.

If you want to use Altcoins, use a cake wallet. Good thing is, it's an open source wallet. The wallet create an independent seed phrase for each kind of wallet you create and that's good thing. You can restore your wallet address to any other wallet and you can get default settings of that wallet. For instance, if you create a multi wallet seed phrase from Trust(Distrust) wallet and try to restore it to another wallet, the paths may not generate the address you need especially when you have tokens in there.

As it’s been cleared by other comments, the major difference is that one allows Bitcoin only while the other, allows usage of multiple cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin..

I wonder, what does Unstoppable wallet offer that premium features?
- Duress mode (meaning if you're threatened to enter your wallet PIN for example, you would end up in another wallet that contains no funds)
In case this helps, Blue wallet has a duress mode as well but it’s called “plausible deniability” where you can encrypt your storage for both decoy and real wallets with different passwords separately.

While trying to access, you can use the appropriate password to access the respective storage..

Also, each storage can hold as many as possible wallets, same for the decoy storage and its free but Blue wallet it self is a Bitcoin only wallet unlike unstoppable that supports multiple cryptocurrencies.

Electrum wallet is the best for me because that is what I use because it has a high level of security that someone else will not be able to temper your wallet, it gives you the right of ownership with your private keys at your possession, well secured and private, no third party involvement except you misplace your seed phrase

I have being using Electrum for my bitcoin holdings ever since I started my bitcoin journey because it's the best bitcoin wallet to be used in storing your bitcoin assets which has made it simple and convenient for me to use not to be scared of my accumulated bitcoin, high level of security and right to your wallet alone without anyone gaining access to it .

I personally believe that If a hardware wallet is very hard for you to afford, then use a good free mobile wallet. For me, I would prefer Electrum over an Unstoppable Wallet any day,  I also use Coinomi most times,  but if it strictly for Bitcoin then I would prefer Electrum more.

My favorite thing about Electrum is that it has been around for many years and has built a good reputation in the Bitcoin community,  and trust is very important in the community. It is Lightweight,  non-custodial and gives you full control of the private keys. I also love the fact that it only focuses mainly on Bitcoin,  which makes it more specialized and reliable in my view.

I also think that Unstoppable Wallet is good, especially if you prefer a more modern look and multi-coin support,  but if we are talking about strictly Bitcoin security and about long term trust, I would definitely and confidently choose Electrum.

Using electrum for storing bitcoin isn't a bad choice as it has been proven by many people that electrum is safe to use and legit. It all depends on how you keep your security safe and secure. It is also a non-custodial wallet where there's an Android version and desktop version. About unstoppable wallet, I haven't used it but it does support multiple crypto so if you plan to buy different crypto after bitcoin then you can also use it. If you don't want to choose then you should just use both for different purposes.

Between Electrum and Unstoppable wallet, I choose these two because they are the best open source wallet that I can find, free on mobile to be precise, not PC.
I have been using Electrum for quite a long time and still do for now.
I still remember when I started buying Bitcoin in the beginning. I left it on the exchange and got scolded by a friend. I then created a Trust Wallet. I used Trust Wallet for quite a while, until I finally discovered Electrum. And up to now, I continue to use Electrum for storing and transacting.

Which free Bitcoin wallet is best recommendable for someone who can't afford hardware wallet? Between Electrum and Unstoppable wallet, I choose these two because they are the best open source wallet that I can find, free on mobile to be precise, not PC.

Both wallets are good storage wallets for Bitcoin, they have a very good security and as a beginner they are really beginner friendly without too many navigation issues, it happens that Electrum is mostly for just Bitcoin, so if you are looking at storing Bitcoin alone as a beginner, it is a good suit for you and you make sure you are the only one who has access to the wallet and no other person so you don't put your asset at risk or expose it to compromise and possible loss of your assets. but if you want a multi coin wallet, i use TrustWallet for my Multi coin wallet, but its not a direct recommendation as some may say they do not trust them enough but for the longest i have used them, I've had not issues and it is very smooth to use and also a good rate with charges for transfer of coins from the wallet to another.

No one who can afford a hardware wallet or cold wallet/air-gapped setup should seriously invest in cryptocurrencies. This is not about something that costs thousands of $, but about something that can be achieved with $50 or less.
I was just about to write the same, thinking that I might sound like a douche.   Cheesy
~snip~

The truth sometimes seems harsh, but people should be told that they will get burned if they play with fire without protection - and we all know that a whole army of scammers and hackers are doing everything every day to hack other people's crypto wallets. I know there are exceptions in countries with very low living standards, but 99% of people there cannot invest serious money in cryptocurrencies anyway.

Lol where do I go now? Tongue Neither I could buy a hardware wallet nor I have that amount to put it into a HW (sarcasm intended). Wish I could use one, at least for once. Making an airgapped device is still manageable though, but I haven't tried it yet.

If you really want to have HW, you'll obviously have to be resourceful. I know cryptocurrencies are banned in your country, but HW is a small device that someone can buy for you if they travel abroad and bring it to you personally. If there's a will, there's always a way Wink

Buying and using hardware wallets, bringing them around is easy but how to keep your identity privately and your activities on Internet in private is harder while more important. If cryptocurrency is banned in a nation, using a hardware wallet is only one of many things to do practically. If you leave any trace on Internet or in physical life about your activities in cryptocurrency market, you can have problems with physical attacks or legal attacks from government.

They can knock your doors, look around and find your hardware wallets, then do more in-depth investigation against you. In such nations with arbitrary law enforcement, only hardware wallet is not enough to keep your cryptocurrency fund safe.

Security, privacy, anonymity must practice together for best result.
