I think the best way a gambler can be free from being so addicted to gambling is for him/her to always set a target weekly on the amount of money he/she is going to spend in that particular week and when he/she reaches that limits he is expected to spend in that week and if he is lucky to win some of betting tickets that week or if  by any chance he couldn't win in that week, it is advise to hold on for the next week than forcing yourself to have a win and which will result to lossing of more money, because he fails to understand and accept the way week comes, it is normal that some weeks look hard to predict rightly and i believe that if any gamblers should apply these common sense or strategy of having a target on the amount of money to spended in gambling weekly, i don't think the society will be able to identify any one as a gambler addict, these strategy has been working for me that is why i decided to drop it here i don't know who it might be so beneficial to.

Multiple times we have emphasis on the importance of mentaining a budget for gambling, and most of us already have a gambling budget both in weekly and monthly formats.

Gambler's that keep such gambling budgets are always conscious of their time and money while gambling since they already have a set amount and a target to meet up with in that specified time.

Another thing we advised always with gambling budget, is that, maintaining a low or small percentage budget out of your entire monthly earnings is very important to keep you away from addiction.

This has been discussed several times in this forum, having a target could actually help you maintain a very structured and conducive approach towards your finances in gambling. Budgeting is very important in whatever you do, so having one and abiding by it will make you to actually become better and hold yourself accountable for each penny you spend.

This is a well-known approach, but I don't entirely agree with it. I differentiate between common sense, which inevitably leads to the need to plan your expenses, and gambling addiction. I mean, if you have a gambling addiction, you should try to overcome it completely, rather than playing dangerous games. Although I agree that reducing the damage caused by gambling addiction is also beneficial. Perhaps as a first step in overcoming gambling addiction, your method makes sense.

It’s bankroll management which everyone should be doing when gambling. Playing blindly based on what you fell will cause a lot of risk in case your emotion is high due to gambling effect.

Even I as a long time gambler sometimes extend my bankroll use in case I have a very intense gambling run while I still want some.

If you hvw a weekly target to meet up, it means you are looking for a money, no fun and no entertainment. That's the one of the easiest ways to lose everything in gambling, I hope you are ready for anything that comes with the method of your gambling.
Your focus rather should be how to minimize your loss, if you can work on how to gamble and win, your weekly loss will not even be your problem, your focus is going to be how to make more money while protecting your bankroll.

We have plenty of gamblers that has went down this route trying to meet a target. I have seen people that arrange 2 odd on daily basis with target to meet a million dollars target starting with $100, imagine 2 odd on $100 up to a million dollars isn't something you can win easily. I have seen many gamblers try the challenge and not for one day have I see any successful gambler having achieved that result.

Yes, in the perfect that should happen, (a), gambler X put aside a budget for his gambling for a week, (b), gambler X losses his budget (c), gambler X should stop. But in reality, it might not be the case as those gamblers mindset might change and wanted to play more above their budget because they want to chase or recover their losses. Unless you really have that mental discipline and be consistent to stay within that budget. But as humans, most of the time, it's very hard specially in gambling because there is always that lure of coming back and then we chases not just the money but the adrenaline as well. So again, we might have known this adage for the longest time, but it's very very hard to execute and only few have been successful and they might not go back to gambling again.

That's actually a good strategy but you should understand that not all people were the same, some people can endure it and some really are not. But honestly, that's what I really do whenever I play. I set a deposit limit per week and no matter what I wouldn't add up, if I win some money, I will withdraw the excess money and I will retain at my limit and in that way, if I win in a week, I have profit and at the same time I have a bankroll for next week and if I lose, yes it's true that you need to endure it until next week but just like what I've said some people can't endure it especially if they lose in the first days of the week. You really need to really know how to control yourself to avoid being addicted, that's the only time this strategy could work because not matter what you try, if you really can't control yourself from playing, no strategy would work.

I don't really do serious budgeting when it comes to my gambling expense. I just try to gamble with a certain amount limit whenever the previous runs out. The only time I can increase this amount is if I win and after withdrawing some for keeps, I leave sufficient to last another week and so I can increase my betting amount. 
I don't also do weekly funding, instead I prefer to fund my account when I have enough funds to spare and when I feel calm, in control of my emotions and see some potential games to bet on.

Nice observation there, yeah, I noticed that too, but I didn’t really have the number like you did. So good job on that. 

With that said, I guess I won’t really respond on this thread anymore about my opinion on being a responsible gambler or betting only what you can afford to lose. I think the point is already clear anyway.

@OP, Having a target expenses is our only way to reduce our losses since we are gambling against the casino with house advantage. Limiting our losses through target bankroll is our only way of self defense.

I also apply a weekly allocation for my gambling funds. I will see if there are any worthwhile bets over the weekend to place and split them into several bets. If I see there are additional schedules like the Champions League, I usually split it smaller. If the competition is completely on break, I will play casino games. 
Everything will work to avoid addiction and not lose more if they can control their activities and finances well.

This is by all means the best strategy to apply in gambling and I call it bankroll management, your money and time is the only thing that you have control over in gambling and it is wise to use it well. What I can add is let the amount that you budget for your weekly gambling be what you can afford to loose because if you are budgeting sufficient amount to gamble you will always be anxious to win. I want to believe that most gamblers that chase loses are those that uses more than what they can afford to loose to gamble, if you use small amounts you won't be too bothered to chase loses if you lose. You will also find out that you will enjoy gambling more if you're using small amounts, there'll be no pressure to win by all means.

Planning your expenses should be a normal habit, whether the money is for gambling or not. The difficulty lies not only in stopping after spending a certain amount of money, but also in stopping while you're winning. That's why you should set a fixed amount to bet, so that whether you win or lose, you'll always maintain control... and no, you can't call someone who controls their gambling an addict.
