Before the creation of laws people live like animals where it's the survival of the fittest, but the creation of law has changed all that and the weak can now live peacefully without fear of the strong. Laws are very in a society, because that's the only thing that keeps people in check and also makes them think before taking decisions. So I don't think any society will survive without laws.
I was born when the laws has already been implemented so I can't tell how people were living when what we have as laws wasn't created, a lot of crimes are being committed now so you could imagine how it was back then where there was no laws that means it would be too difficult for the weak to survive as they would be intimidated and beaten and nothing will be done about it. Laws has not only helped to reduce reduce the crimes that people commit it has helped the society to live in a good environment with everyone unlike before where people will assault others in the day and nothing will be done about it cause they have no one to complain to.
Animal kingdom, that's what the society must have been before the introduction of laws. But has there actually been a time man lived without laws? I just feel that the law is evolving and we can only talk about laws getting stronger, better and more civilised. Right from creation, we had laws (based on the story from holy books), "do not eat this fruit". That was a law, but man disobeyed and got the consequences for his actions. There has always been laws, but civilization was minimal, the laws was controlled within a smaller sphere and consequences were just as a few people want it to be.
Law is innate but not civilization. So I will say that the world is only getting more civilised than it used to be. In a lawless community surviving for a day will be by Grace because anyone can kill anyone and get away with it. People can do anything and no one would question them. The laws are now itemized with it's broader explanation and punishments, so yeah, the world is saner by day.
