As reported by businessday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Tunji Disu as the acting Inspector General of Police, replacing Kayo de Egbetokun.
Egbetokun resignation was accepted, with official reasons citing family considerations.
However, reports suggest policy disagreement, particularly regarding the push for state police, contributed to the change.
The security situation in Taraba State was also cited as a factor.

Truth be told no president will want to work with someone especially when they are beginning to have policy disagreements, the position of the IG is such that cannot be compromised, any wise president will want to ensure that whoever occupies that position is completely intelligent and loyal to him. The immediate past IG has done well and has been very loyal to Tinubu that is why Tinubu has kept him ever since despite that his retirement was long overdue.

Secondly why Tinubu has made this move at this time is so that the new IG will understand the system and be well prepared come 2027, Tinubu and the APC doesn’t want to take any chances, if it was possible to even use his direct family members to occupy those crucial offices he would have, the issue about our leaders is that they are not interested in good governance, they just ensure they man over their loyalists to power so that their loyalist can cover there reuse. Congratulations though to the newly appointed IG i do hope that there will drastic improvement in security across the nation within his tenure in office.

The decision by the president to drop the inspector general of police for me is very unnecessary, he would have just allowed the man to stay till the next election circle, since that was his initial plan. Now a new IGP has been appointed just 2 months to his retirement, this appointment has made 29 members of the Nigerian police force that are senior in rank to the current IGP to go into compulsory retirement. The reason the former IGP gave as to why he's resigning is really surprising to me, so he had family issues that could affect his career all this while and yet he kept on acting as the IGP of the police, which is to say he could not solve the immediate problem of his family but wanted to solve the security issue of the entire country.

Nigerian politicians with their ways of doing things which are oftentimes interesting to me. Why does the president have to appoint someone whom their retirement is just in less than 50 days when there are other competent hands in the system. It is like this administration is working in the same trajectory like the last administration of Muhammad BUHARI where retirements were ignored and tenures extended for selected office holders who are at the interest of the president especially those police officers and paramilitary forces looked like they are taking a new dimension with them. They don’t get to appoint you until your retirement is very close by, after appointing them they will now spend beyond their retirement also kicking out others who are yet to retire but are above them in ranks. I don’t know why the system is like this but it does not make any sense to me.

Our Nigerian government always tells us what they want us to hear meanwhile they have their ulterior motives, thanks to social media we now get insights to the real reasons why things happen in the country. Telling us that the former IG of police voluntarily retired due to family or personal matters is laughable, as a matter of fact the choice have been given to him to resign or be sacked, we know how these things work. I doubt that any public office holders in Nigeria, will voluntarily resign for whatever reasons, it's not in their character.

What I believe is that president Tinubu, wants to do some clean up in the top hierarchy of the force for whatever reasons because the appointment of a new IGP means that his senior officers have to be retired so that the new IG will be the true head of the force. It is also questionable that he should apoint an officer who is already seeing his retirement, I guess he appointed him for specific reasons, whatever it is I hope that the new IG will put Nigerian interest first.

There are different stories wey I dey hear why he was removed from office. Some are saying that it was because of his disagreement with the president of State Police. Tinubu is about to approve State police but he said, Nigeria is not yet matured enough to have state police because the individual State Governors go over use the police for their political ambitions and not to protect the citizens. And others are saying it is because of the next election.
And right now the new IGP has removed the woman that was working with Egbetokun from the office and send her to field work. According to stories, the woman was the one causing all the problem in the police force. We pray things change to good with the new IGP.

There are lots of stories circulating the air about the resignation of Egbetokun but the one which battfles the most is that Kayode Egbetokun was opposing state policing as against president tinubu directive. The stories are many and might not be the real reason president Bola tinubu asked Egbetokun to resign. Our media houses are compromised they may have received bribe to  spoil Kayode Egbetokun as the real devil and an obstacle behind the state policing. Even Egbetokun was afraid of telling the real truth behind resignation. President tinubu has always frown at state policing which makes me believe Egbetokun may have been compel to take the blame as the villain against the creation of state policing to divert blames from the president.

If all they said is true then Tinubu hand is free from it because they said it was a resignation from him, so which means that it was done willingly and not force but however when you imagine what politics and leaders could do in making things look unquestionable you might doubt some news because if family was the reason for the resignation, was it just now he is realizing that he has family?, and secondly the election is in few months ahead so somebody could say that Tinubu has began to remove people and replace them with other people he could tell what to do and it remain so.

E be like say we forget say na Tinubu put him for the sit before and if he want to change him from the position he has the right, make we no do like say we no know say every big people wey dey good position today no be because of Tinubu, when it comes to politics and you no wan agree with waiting person wey dey high tell you to do then them go make sure say them commot waiting dey give you power to disagree with their decision.

Bola tinubu is the president of Nigeria and if you have not forgotten is the commander in chief of Armed Forces, the president has heavy right to change or appoint anyone he likes and that is what exactly happened by bringing him the new IG. I saw so many people complaining about this but who am I to challenge the order of Mr President which he has the full rights to do what he did.

I'm less concerned about his decision and the only thing I want from him is maximum security which I believe that is what he is in to. A lot has been going on in this country which require more attention and I pray that our president succeed so that we can finally live in peace.

What is your take on this?

Honestly speaking,  no incumbent President will want someone that is not loyal to him nor not taking direct orders from him be in a sensitive position when election is by the corner, you and I know that our leaders uses the policeman to manipulate elections and intimidate voters so if the president is having family crisis or disagreement with the IG  it will affect him politically in the upcoming election and the president has forsaw it so he has to accept his resignation and appoint another IG immediately.

The President is the chief security of all armed forces in Nigeria and he has every right to remove whoever he wants to remove even without pre informing them if he no longer finds them trustworthy, so it's not bad, the president was the one  that appointed him the first place and he still has every right to remove him, people shouldn't complain because politics is a game of interest so the president is only doing what will favor himself,  security is a pressing concern in the country and the president needs to take security very serious in other to protect the lives and property of the citizens.

That's how they disturb police and soilders their head , even if he didn't do anything, maybe if any of his boys default they will put all the blame on him , this is the major reason why I hate force ,and whatever you say at that time can never be considered, demotion is not a good one, at list he would have punished him in another way round, and not to demote him just check he serve nigerias for 37 years you just demoted him just like that is too bad.
