No matter how smart people think that they are it's impossible to outsmart the casinos and bookmakers, personally I think that gamblers that try to act like they are trying to outsmart the bookies are not really experienced, for those that have had lots of experiences with gambling they know that doing that would only make them lose in the long run. winning isn't based on how smart you are.

The problem with such people that thinks they can outsmart the casino is that, they feel they understand the game better and has all the tricks in their palms. Unfortunately, for them gambling isn't like that because it's a game of luck. After a short while, they start losing and they'll continue trying till they lose it all to the casino.

I used to neglect the issue of allocating a separate budget for gambling but I have come to realize over time that it is not really a matter of neglect. Whether you gamble for fun or to make money, it is very important to stick to your bankroll. Just as a weak mental management can weaken your financial system, excessive greed in gambling can make you more prone to losing money.

When you have a specific money management plan, it will prepare you mentally not to spend too much money. Also, not to spend too much time. Allocating a budget for gambling will discipline you because you will not want to go beyond that budget.

When you decide an amount to allocate to gambling, it must come from non essential money and be an amount that you can afford to lose.
For example, you can use the revenue from your signature campaign, but not money for your family.
You must set yourself very strict rules and if you start breaking them it is best to stop for a while or forever. The situation will get out of hand and you risk disperding your assets and ruining your life and your family.

I wouldn't call it drained. A gambler wants to keep gambling as long as they have available money. Unrealistic expectations are the expectations of making a lot of money in a short period of time without working hard. A addicted gambler keeps playing as long as they have enough funds. Eventually they get pushed away from their expectations and try to get closer to reality but by then they have lost a lot. Gambling should have been for entertainment but greed drives them towards unrealistic goals but that was the wrong way.

The main issue about budgeting isn’t setting the budget itself. A lot of gamblers in an attempt to regulate their gambling habits may have set one or two budgets for themselves, which in fact is the easiest part of budgeting, the real problem is sticking to those budgets. Many at times people’s emotions will most likely overpower their will so it requires one with a great level of discipline to be able to control themselves and stick to gambling budgets even when the situation suggests otherwise.

My case is almost the same as yours, OP. At first, I also didn't separate my gambling funds because I felt that I only gambled occasionally to fill my spare time, but without realizing it, my gambling expenses were almost 50% of my income. I don't think the majority of gamblers don't keep to track of their money, they are just overwhelmed with their side of story and that's why many of them don't know what to do when they loss money. The result isn't always what they expect, and when this happens, some of them knows what they are going to do next and some of them don't know anything, they just position their selves and be gambling until they never see the end result again.

Some people think budgeting doesn't matter, this is where the problem comes from, if you want to bet make sure you have money allocated for that month atleast, don't go outside of your budget trying to solicit for fund for anything no matter how exciting that game is at that moment, never in any way over gamble and don't bend rule for anything, you lose you are out and if you are not interested in gambling, don't let anybody convince you to do it.

If anyone denies the fact that gambling is a game of luck, he is quite ignorant about gambling. He should definitely know more about gambling. There is no guarantee of winning consistently. It is a good idea though to keep separate funds for gambling. However I haven't tried it ,  this will help those gambler's that find it difficult to keep up to there gambling limits that they have set for themselves.

Personally, I found it to be much more different to have a separate gambling budget. Initially, I did not segregate my budget since I was gambling just to have fun. But I later understood that I was slowly spending more than I had earlier planned to spend since there was no definite limit. Money used in gambling can easily be combined with the day-to-day expenses and thus, it becomes easy to rationalize the idea of pursuing losses or increasing deposit than what was originally intended. At this point, I have made gambling a recreational activity and a set sum that I can lose. At that point I cease with that budget. It actually assists in upholding discipline and responsible gambling.

Of course, the gambling fund must be separate. For example, after I get my salary, I calculate how much money I can spend that month, including house rent and all kinds of daily expenses. I set aside a certain fund with which I will do gambling; my budget is not always fixed. As like, if my income is high in a month, I allocate more budget for gambling in that month; however, I think that gambling without separate funds. At the end of the day, you will be in trouble because you are not careful with your money.
