If you are educated, the best is military. You will not be part of the people that will be carrying weapon about and going to war just like that, but you will start with a higher rank and those lower rank will respect.
Another thing is the respect other military, paramilitary, other government officials and civilians are giving to military officers which is a very respectful thing.
Depending on the country you come from, some countries do not prioritize educated people when recruiting into the military. But they prefer those who only hold secondary certificate. Like my country, people with only secondary education are preferred than those who further their education. They believe that people with a high result may become higher than them who have served in the military for many years, so they avoid such things. That is why you still need a strong connection in the military, otherwise, even with good educations, you will still start your career at a lower rank. Sure, as a military officer, civilians will always respect due to their uniform, but to me, there is nothing more important than the respect they always get. It’s not maybe their salaries are better than other government workers. But I don’t know for other countries.

During uncertain economic times, I would prefer going for military services, but things can get really tough in terms of war or current situations. A true patriotic will prefer sticking with the military services but if we have a family who is dependent on us and are the bread winner for the house than it is really challenging to risk our lives to serve the nation. I think I would stick to a regular job even if the benefits are not up to mark.
I at least know that I can safely return to my family every night with no risk of life. Regular job will still offer various benefits like pension funds, medical benefits, etc so I wise chose a regular job wisely and stick to it. But yes, serving the nation should also be our priority so I might perhaps serve the military for a couple of years and come back to my regular life once things settle down. I would for sure not stick to the military services for a longer duration.

This is indeed the best choice, I don't like the form of military education, it feels like seeing military training at school makes me uncomfortable, they yell and we have to do what the seniors tell us by force, I don't like the way they educate, and also killing and other things against my will I don't want it, I'd rather be a civilian worker like usual, have holidays and work days that don't kill my life, more time with my family and that's what I feel to this day, I feel much better even though I might don't have a position or anything like military people.

If the economy is hard which has translated to higher costs of living, then you have to look for ways to generate more income that, will make you live above the common man. And that can only be achieved when you create a value systems that people will buy into. Going into the military simply because, of the perceived benefits attached to it may be seen to as evading responsibility. Going into the military should be done with a sense of purpose and service to humanity which to me has to go beyond what you will get. so no one should go into Military service because of what they can get from it, going into the military means one thing it's either you due or live.

During these uncertain economic times, do you prefer to look for a regular job or just enlist in the military? I mean, the benefits offered by the military are often hard to ignore. At least, in the US. But I understand that military service is not for everyone. If you had to choose between the two, which one will you pick?
Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
"At least in the US", that's a strong line.Benefits in the US Armed Forces are different from what someone might receive in countries like Nigeria or United Kingdom. My question is are you choosing military benefits package over your long-term comfort&security.I'll always prioritize alignment with my personality, stability, flexibility and freedom to shape my own path over a structured benefits package. I grew up in the 1970's in New York City. Crime was high murder was high my neighborhood was very high crime. In 1977 the USA was settled off with Vietnam and at peace. Joining the US Navy was safer than living in my neighborhood. From 1967 to 1977 I personally knew a 6-7 murder victims and 4 murderers so sometimes picking the military is a safer move than staying put.

I was in the USN for 5 years. It has good points. But you can get really fucked. So I would argue try civilian.
I know how that feels. Many people prefer to have freedom in their lives, so they will choose the civilian route. Perhaps, enlisting in the Reserve would be an option. You'll get more time for life, and less time spent on military service. Not that I'm interested in enlisting in the military, as I'm self-employed. But I understand some will enlist if they can't find other options/alternatives that would help them "survive" during these times of crisis. In the US, things are "hot" right now. So it's not recommended to join the military unless you want to be sent straight to war. Hopefully, the economic situation in American and abroad improves soon.

Imho lately the war has become way more dangerous (for an US soldier) than it was some 10-20 years ago. Imho if you are asking this now, you're in the wrong generation to take the route of military service. But it all depends on skills and luck. So, no matter which route you take, make sure you focus on learning fast the right skills. Many people prefer to have freedom in their lives, so they will choose the civilian route. It's not only about freedom, it's also about family and the skills learned until now. Eg one cannot really be a math teacher in the army, I guess.

Yep bro, military service is not for everyone. I could have joined it a long time ago but it requires a lot of hard work to be in the force, because their assessment tests are too hard to pass. Their training alone is very difficult that and in different countries it gets even more difficult. In my country, joining forces might not be that hard but the benefits are too low. The benefits to US Marines and Army are more because it is a tier 1 country, our army have less facilities for the lower ranks and has high salaries, facilities, and other benefits for the top ranks. But benefits are like bribe by the military if they are bribing you to join it, is that right? I don't think that they should do it, even if that's good, haha. Anyway, it is option, though so it does not matter that much.

Exactly, military service is not for everyone, because it is not everybody that can bear to see a corpse, talkless of killing a life. It seems like you and I, are in the same boat. Because I personally, would prefer civilian job over military service. I mean, you won't have to suffer any trauma, and at least you would be able to stabilise your life and that of your loved ones with the little income that you are earning. Working or being in a military service is not that easy, if not for anything, you should at least consider your family who depends on you and can't afford to lose you. Before sacrificing your life to your country, it really important to consider your family, and think it thoroughly, that if am gone or when I'm here no more will my family get the best care they deserved? Will anyone care for them, the way I would? And my answer is capital No. So at this point I think the best thing is to prioritise your family over everything, because they need you the most.

Being in the military looks pretty good, it's not just about pay but about prestige because right now people who are in the military would be viewed as a little bit higher than prestige where I live so not a bit want to try to be in it.
But if I were given the choice I think I would do the same thing as I did as a civilian as well as in the job because civilian work would make me much more comfortable as I feel now.
Safety and risk in every job is obviously there but compared to the work in the military clearly in the end civilian work will be a little more profitable although there are its own privileges when we are in the military.

To be honest, security becomes a big issue when you have a family, Everyone loves their country, but when you consider the risk to their own lives and the responsibilities of their family the decision is not easy. That's why many choose permanent jobs so that they have a regular income and can safely return to their families every day, I think the path to serving the country is not limited to the military, someone doing their job properly, paying taxes, contributing to society is also a form of service. So in the end what's important is to choose a job that has a balance between responsibility, security and real life needs.

Any one serving or intentionally about working with the military should be passionate about it because it comes with alot of commitments and demands regardless of the amount of money to get, and in most of the countries their pays is not that huge, I value and as well enjoy the peace of mind that have now and I will prefer to work as a civilian while given my respect and loyalty the military because of their nature of job which I can't part of in my own decision, it is only natural that people will definitely have different choices and perhaps it is likely not possible to have only the military or civilian.

I used to fantasize about being in the military when I was a little buy I admired their uniforms and how people accord respect to them, I saw soldiers as superheros who carry guns to protect the people. Now as a grown up I understand their drills and discipline better and I realized how dangerous their jobs are so I'll rather not be a soldier.
Countries where terrorism is very much and the government are not well equiped to tackle the terrorists soldiers suffer a lot of casualties, it's a very risky job to be a soldier in a third world country. If I were in America or some European countries maybe I can consider joining the military because they are well equiped. In my country I'll rather be a civilian, I have a lot of respect for our military.

It's true, jobs in the military are much better paid but given recent events there's no reason to feel secure. For example, in the French Foreign Legion, you earn few euro for the first five years, but then you start to earn very well in the years to come and then you retire after 20 years of well-paid service from the French state. A normal civilian job guarantees peace of mind and few surprises.

What exactly are the benefits of those who keep their heads in a bag these days somewhere far away in the Middle East? Some return home in coffins, others as invalids, others with post-traumatic stress. It may be good to be a soldier in countries that don't go to war, but I would always prefer to choose another, safer and better-paid profession.

There are people that would actually pick serving in the military but not in a continent like Africa where soldiers are not appreciated and also being underpaid. personally I'm not even going to do that because it would be a waste of time. Using Nigeria as example, with the system of the government and seeing how soldiers are being underpaid by the government no one would prefer military service in that case. Working a civilian job is better because you are not worried about your safety and that of others as well
People still stick to the military job in countries like Nigeria even if the benefits are not that good. Maybe perhaps they are not able to find job elsewhere. I have seen a lot of people going for military services if they are not able to find any other option of earning money and supporting their family. For these people, military services at least provide some sort of earning and they can at least send a portion of their earning home. I am sure people in military services here will quickly switch their career as soon as they get a better opportunity and military services for them will just be momentary until they find any other option. They do not just risk their lives but also the lives of their loved ones. Their entire family gets scattered if something happens to them. Yes, government will provide for some time but that will not be permanent. Government can offer the same job to the family members where the cycle continues.

I am really interested to know about how military services works in other countries outside mine. Because for my country, if you’re entering into the military without sufficient certification, you’ll only wallow your time there and not get a good pay accumulated at the end of the service. Those entering into the military without university degrees usually have a long time struggling for menial pays before they eventually get to an higher pay if their lucky and have a good Boss that would allow them to go back to school and up their education for better ranks and better pay. I use to admire military work long time ago growing up, but growing up to see the fact and the reality of things for them even after military, I’d prefer to stick to a government job and a peace of mind with me and my family around. I respect military a lot, and they’re a sign of respect to us as they fight to protect us in the country but I don’t even imagine myself being in that uniform for whatever reason. I wish they can better the pay of even small rank members in the military and more youths won’t dislike joining them, and again, fairness and honesty of our leaders in the work is making youths to not find interest in it again. They can’t waste their lives for a country that does not put their interest at heart as they should.

Searching for regular job is better for me. I don't wants to join military because that is too discipline and strict for me. I prefer to do civilians than join in military. Maybe they offers many things but I don't like it. Once you join in military, you must obey the rules and strictly.
But I will let those who wants join military and searching for a bright future there. Maybe they want to have a career in the military and thinks that is looks cool.
I also want a civilian job, and even if I got a military job, I would want to sit behind. I can't work in the field because I think it requires an energetic and active body with an intelligent brain, because without a brain, that man is dead in the field. But I am not criticizing anyone, just sharing what I think. I know what is happening in reality, those with high intelligence are also sitting at the bank in high ranks, they are doing office work, clerical work, or forming strategies. I want to live a normal life with my family and want to give them proper time and grow. I know I can grow in the military as well, but military service requires dedication and love that is usually developed from the start, like when someone is a child or they are young. They can offer a lot of things that can convince a person to join the services, but it requires dedication.

I want to live a normal life with my family and want to give them proper time and grow. I know I can grow in the military as well, but military service requires dedication and love that is usually developed from the start, like when someone is a child or they are young. They can offer a lot of things that can convince a person to join the services, but it requires dedication. This is the hope of most people, and I'm sure even those who work in the military hope for a normal life like this. When you join the military, especially in a conflict-prone country, you'll spend most of your time in combat or staring at a computer screen in an office. I personally have never liked working in the military since I was a child because my body and physique weren't suited to it. Fortunately, in my country, there's no compulsory military service, so we're free to find jobs that suit our abilities. Dedication to work isn't limited to the military it's essential wherever we work. However, joining the military is different, as time, focus, and personal safety must be prioritized. Honestly, I don't find working in the military appealing because it demands constant focus and requires greater endurance. Although I know some people genuinely enjoy this job for their own reasons.
