Civilian job or military service?

During these uncertain economic times, do you prefer to look for a regular job or just enlist in the military? I mean, the benefits offered by the military are often hard to ignore. At least, in the US. But I understand that military service is not for everyone. If you had to choose between the two, which one will you pick?

I have remembered when I was studying at school one of my teachers offered me to take entry into the military. Because my body fitness looked like a military army, but I refused the offer. My intention was to continue studying and later do regular jobs or business. Although I haven't studied a lot, I started a job abroad later and I am currently doing business, though it's small. But I am fine; I have freedom. I can do whatever I want, but in the military you can't do whatever you want unless you are retired.

The military has strict rules, at least in my country. They couldn't even move anywhere without higher authority permission. It would be hard for me since I love to travel, and more than ten countries have been visited. However, I am not saying a military job is bad, but it's not for everyone who loves freedom. From childhood I liked freedom; even during the job I wasn't satisfied at all. I had been waiting to start some business when I have enough money and leave the job. Eventually I did resign from the job and have my own business now.

Military service has its own pros and cons, if you love your freedom i.e. to move freely and do things of your choice then military service is not for you because in military you are employed 24/7. The positive side of military service is that you have a job security and your family gets good benefit in case you lost your life during service. In my country, military officers live a lavish life which we the civilians can only dream of. I would say if you live in a country where military has complete control over the government then its better to go for military job then a civilian job.

Civilian jobs offer a wider menu of alternatives and possibilities. If you are a creative person who is able to adapt yourself to different contexts, while working hard towards your goals, I think that is the path to go.

On the other hand, if you are methodical, just want stability and are annoyed by risks, the military career is a good choice. You know where you will start, you know what you will have to do and you know where it will lead you after some decades working. So it's a quite predictable career, while avoiding the risks everyone else takes in entrepreneurship.

The incentives in the military can be irresistible in countries where governments do have good budgets for them and the profile of being a military personnel could be highly respected in a country where militaries are well valued such as the mentioned United States.

It might be applicable for any citizen to apply for military service but though there are characterized qualities that should befit you suitably to be enrolled therein which are your potentials of what you can intellectually offer to the system with a big question... Are you willing to give your life on the process/purpose of saving lives and properties? because that will be your primary aim of the service.

A veteran friend of mine had to take a deep breath (hmm...) at our first sight (first meet) just after his retirement and he said, life is indeed enjoyable when you are living a civilian life because you don't own yourselves during time of military services.

Well... When life feels fair with you definitely you will be conscious of certain risked especially life threatening. Military is not a playground but a service for mean people.
Indeed life is better when living a civil life while military give you an hedge against the oppressive world we have come.

Well for me it depends on the particular country am to enroll or choice from because I know for certain that if am faced with this kind of choice in a country where they seem to be lots of war and terrorism I believe choosing my civilian jobs won't be bad 😊 especially in my nation currently, I would rather work a civilian job than to join the military although I really don't like anything military to say the truth because the violence in there is too much except of course I would be offer a suitable position and not to join the war front

If I was in the U.S and this opportunity was presented, why the hell would I not join. That's actually dependent on if I don't have any meaningful handwork or skill or job per say.
The military life in my country is quite different, wherein everything about it is political and the system so corrupt that asking questions might just get you killed or missing.

For now, I prefer my daily hustle much more than any salaried job am doing or would later on migrate to.
Unless in a situation of war where there no other option than to enlist so as to fight for my country and protect my family.

Joining the military is a career usually chased out of patriotism and not economic situation of a country at the moment, if you're Joining the military on the grounds of economic situation of the country and trying to see how this can be beneficial to you, then it might be the wrong purpose and you may get disappointed at the a time. But if it is out of your patriotism and love for the military, you will enjoy whatever it is that comes with the job, not because it's okay but because it's a path you chose and it is actually giving you the fulfilment you may desire from the job. Not all militaries round the globe does gives as much benefits as the US, so if you are not in the US and looking to join the military in your country, be sure its a path you have chosen and not one influence by the economic situation of the country at the time.

I have no calling for a military career, and here in Brazil the lowest salary in the army, which is what will be paid initially, is 23% less than the national minimum wage. I understand that all jobs are important; soldiers, besides serving their country, also have families to support, and in Brazil they are undervalued, as is the police force. My choice is a civilian job.

In what functional society is man faced with having to sacrifice years of autonomous existence just to gain access to basic stability?

But okay, civilian, for me. Every time.

I've thought what I'm really trading and the list is long as people don't say out loud. Your location isn't yours. Your schedule isn't yours. The level of risk you're exposed to on any given day is not yours. And people need to be given external scaffolding to feel grounded and purposeful.

Structure can be a gift. Or it can be a cage. And the tragedy is that they appear from the outside to be identical.

Serving in the military got bigger cause than money so we cannot compare them but the perks from military or other service can be tempting but for the higher level officers while the regular ones are often ends with nothing at all when they finish their service and many even turn into homeless.

Using the united state as an example, joining the military might appear as something that is attractive but anything outside the united state, especially in some developing countries that has a lot of crisis that are ongoing, joining the military is almost like signing a death sentence because from the day you joined them, you have directly dawned yourself closer to death and restlessness. 

I can't understand how you consider joining the US military as something attractive. Maybe you are not aware how much the USA is involved in troubled regions arround the world and how many soldiers are deployed in about 750 and 800 military bases and sites in more than 70 countries and territories arround the world in every country.
As an american soldier, if you can survive from being shuting during armed confrontation or treachery, you would never survive from the Trauma of all kinds. I would never suggest this option for anybody even for my enemy.

There is more aim  in the army than money because it involves hard work and risking one life to protect the country and their importance is much greater than civilian jobs.Every job in the country is different from each other.Soldiers do their job honestly and do not cheat to defend the country and the nation.As far as civilian jobs are concerned they also do their job for the betterment of the country. And when they retire they also get a pension from the country so that they do not have to face any kind of difficulties later.And without military service and civilian job we cannot promote our country and they are doing a great job for our country.

Actually, it varies from person to person, In a regular job you can do whatever you want, change careers if you want and your life is a little free. But in these uncertain times, there is always a fear of job security. When you join the military, you are guaranteed income, medical care and many benefits and your life is organized, however the rules here are very strict, there are risks and you can't always do what you want. If I had to choose I would take a regular job because I like to progress slowly with my skills, however the military is a really good option for those who want a family secure safe and disciplined life.

I know that we all are going to die one day but i value my life more than anything in this life, so I prefer having any job as far as i am making money to pay my bills over a military service, some people are destined to have the job and some people see it as something they can become they wanted to protect their families and country when they need them but military is never an only option for me to protect my family. In other jobs you can do whatever you like, seeing your family and friends any time you like without thinking about anything but in military you can not have time to spend with your family and friends, the first thing that should be in your mind is to be ready to die for your country and as someone who is very scared can not take that kind of risk, some people will spend their entire career in military and nothing will happen to them while some will never come back again, it is not a bad thing but it not what i want, even if they given an opportunity I will never accept it.

If you had to choose what country to you can go to for military service then it's worth thinking about. its obvious that those that live in third world countries would choose military service in countries like the United States because this country doesn't just improve their skills and appreciates their sacrifices they also receive cheques that are worth it. if this was added to the option I would go pick military service in the US.

My uncle is high rangking soldier and he often sent as a peacekeeping soldier in many conflict area around the world. He said life's trials or problems whether economic, family or social not comparable to the hardships on the battlefield when lives are at stake, Even though he was only a peacekeeping force, my uncle often came face to face with gunfire between warring groups. With this point of views even military job offering stability with high salary and strong structure with solid identity and social honor, but i will choose civil job which offering high flexibility and unlimited potential income and the most important thing military life is not suitable for me especially in the part of risking life and limited sparetime. I think military is not a job it is lifestyle and nes a whole life commitment.

For anybody who interested in military job, they should have strict discipline, comfortable with absolut authority, ready to face psychological and physical risk on war zone. For person who tend like stability military is better choice but for opportunity driven people like me, you better choose entetepeneur path. Some of my country's citizens also become soldiers in the US because the requirements are not as complicated as in my country.

Just like you said that the military service is not for everyone, I think you're referring to me  particularly. If military job is the only available job in my country I would rather remain like that than applying for a military job, I don't just know why my spirit doesn't accept it, I know how many military offers that was given to me but I turn them down because my spirit doesn't accept it so I would rather go for the one my spirit ask me to go for that's the regular job I can't force to do something I don't intend doing, most of the people who are into military today is not by their will rather they just decided to do it because there's no alternative.

A military job does not just mean that you will be required to have weapon and be in the field, there are military office jobs. But I understand why you may say something like this, the benefits of being in the military is not the same in every country, there are some countries where the dangers outweigh the benefit, in fact there is no benefit. In such countries, it may be best to remain a civilian and give yourself the option of having other sources of income instead of the military that will tale all your time with nothing to show for it.

I love watching war movies, but I don't think I have the nerve to shoot a fellow human being; killing is not for me, and besides, military service is all discipline and restrictive.

I prefer to be free and do whatever I want. There are many civilian jobs I can take that can provide monetary compensation and benefits equal to those of a military service member.

If i was a citizen of America i will prefer to join the military because i believe that the US has a life insurance incase anything bad happens, and the US value their citizens and also their military officers, but if it's in my country i will prefer a civilian job or look for a business and do and become a self employed citizen. Our military officers are been killed almost everyday and nothing the government has done about it, they are been killed in the bush by bandits and the government will cover it up and says nothing happened they don't care about you and what annoy me most is after all this suffering in the sambisa forest they will be paid small amount of money as their salary, no life insurance and most of them hardly see their love one and family, unless am been given a higher rank in the military before i can even consider to join the Nigeria army or military.

There are many people who can't make their own income, and do not have a proper job for them, so they do to know what to do and they just find the solution at enlisting in the military (if they are accepted).

In nations like USA you could be basically anything and you would still be accepted because even if you are not some Navy Seal going at the head of the war, you could be just enlisted for some boring paperwork and still be useful to them. If you have no other options to work, military is the last option to choose.
