Nobody showed them alternative or other path in life. I can point three reasons why people dedicate life to gambling. 1) greed. gambling allows to get money easily 2) they have won once and those money were enough to change persons worldview. instead of working they prefer testing luck 3) stories like "a person was buying lottery ticket each day during many years, but one day he hit jackpot and became rich" are enough to motivate people to dedicate life, time and money to gambling.

People can be poor because they bring not sufficient income to the table. Gambling with greed is just secondary,  it will only add burden to these people but its not the main reason why they are living in slums until today.

The best solution is to increase their sources of income through exploring new earning opportunities and skills. With that, their lives will be somehow different and may experience even a little progress, compared to those who rely alone from gambling to make a living.

Gambling will make you stuck into poverty if you prioritize it more than your job. But if you mixed your job with some gambling activities, that won't be bad. We need this kind of entertainment at some point to get rid of stress and pressures from working on our jobs.

On the moment that you had been thinking that you would be able to make money or living with gambling then with that alone then it is already that over for you on which you would definitely be able to experience tons of loses despite of the dream and hopes that you are longing for specially when trying out to hit up that life changing amount. If one all it does with his life is gambling then probably he is heavily addicted and I don't see any green light that he might have any chance of reversing this. Some people, in fact extremely few people find the courage to decide to quit and these people in life are some of the best people as they have an enormous self-determination to get from bad to good behavior. Most of the persons who become addicted have no such strong will to reverse things and stories like the one you are sharing here unfortunately are very common in the world. Is is often said that "as or how a man lays his bed, so he lies on it", there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of about gambling, there are different sides to this activity and what follows the side you choose is what you will get, a responsible gambler will gamble and enjoy it because he manages the activity in a way it doesn't affect his finances, meanwhile someone who is a reckless gambler will end up addicted and possibly end up living a life of misery..

If a gambler begins to see gambling as the only source of income then they are good as failure because one day you must lose everything, it is just waiting to happen. You can't expect that you will be profitting from what is based on luck, luck comes and goes with higher probability of lower success rate. A gambler should also have something else that they depend on which will be a stable income drive for them and not having gambling as priority income source. Although because of poverty and no job, some youths have seriously taken to gambling as source of income and they have different types of strategy like live betting during the game. However, it is still not profitable at the long run because you win some days and you lose some days. Diversification is always better to one source of income and gambling isn't suppose to be the only avenue for expected income.

But some people will be working, earn money but using the money or almost all the money to gamble and the life of such people remain stagnant and it becomes a set back for them. This is possible and I think this could be what you are referring to.

Gambling is good, but it is good only when you do not depend on it as a source of income and if you are using 1 to 5% or less of your income to do it.

Well, they chose that path, and we can never change that. The past will never be changed. I think what we can only do is learn from their mistakes.

Good for you that you saw it first. Many gamblers didn't. I learned it the hard way, and it's through experience. What we should do is face ourselves whenever we are making the mistake and not be stubborn to keep on gambling even if it's out of our reach financially.

There are many gamblers who depend solely on gambling for their livelihood. Most are somewhat wealthy families. They don't have any skills to earn money. They destroy their wealth to gamble. And hope that some day miracle will happen and they will win big amount of money. Most of the time they go bankrupt.

I personally feel that gambling should always invest one's hard earned money. Gambling with parents' money or borrowed money is most foolish. As a result we lose interest in working and we become lazy. We must have a source of income, and still we can invest money in gambling to test our luck.
