You know, I have been meaning to ask this question because I'm also confused at the same time wondering how gambling can serve as a source of income or used as a means of survival, how much did you even intend to make per day ? I don't know if gamblers especially those who think they can survive through gambling ever try asking themselves that this expectations that I'm making in gambling is it achievable? How many gamblers that survived through gambling? This are the things we need to ask ourself before making any expectations in gambling.

Seeing gambling as source of income is a sign of unseriousness and people that are involved in this kind of thinking should better stop it immediately before things will get worse. Hami should not be seen as a source of income no matter the condition that we may find ourselves. Gambling should not be seen as a profitable activity and those that understand how long it takes for you to be profitable, they will not want to make that kind of mistakes.

On the contrary, people might be serious on thinking that gambling could be their ticket on getting out of their current predicament. It's a way for them to go from literally "rags to riches". And when you do not gamble by following the right rules, gambling will become addiction in your life, as a result, gambling will take away valuable time from your life and valuable money and loved ones and your beautiful life. The main purpose of gambling should be entertainment, not making money, This allows you to maintain self-control, reduce the risk of losing money, and enjoy the fun of gambling for a long time, while protecting you from addiction.

Gambling is a game of luck and nothing can be more certain than the fact that the income will be steady. This is the reason why it is highly dangerous to live on gambling. Stories about big wins attract many people and make them believe that they can recount it day by day, yet they do not pay enough attention to the prevalence of losses. That is why no matter how much they lose, they still expect something big from gambling and dream of changing their lives to win something big from there. Even the trying to win big amounts of money that you casually just stated can be very big deal for a lot of gamblers and can cause real damages for those who lack discipline and self control, hope you know this. It’s almost like your motive for gambling is to chase huge wins and the more unsuccessful you become, the more frustrated you might get (for some gamblers) and the more you’ll want to be putting more pressure on yourself to keep going, hoping you’ll get it right. Yes, you could actually get it right, but this isn’t guaranteed at all, you could still end up getting yourself in the same trouble that the other gambler who sees gambling as a source of income would be.

Maybe those three brothers in your town are just gambling addicts. Addiction is sometimes difficult to be understood, because it's not always rational. Telling an addict to just get rid of his addiction and to get a job is easier said than done. Maybe stupidity and laziness also play a role in the whole process. Some people are lazy and hate to work, so they want to make some easy money via gambling, instead of working in a 9-to-5 job. I agree with you that gambling addiction can be really scary. The three people you gave as examples are certainly many more people in the world who have not improved their lives yet, which has forced them to keep their lives in a low position only because they depend on gambling. We know that gambling is a game of chance, this chance is not mainly in favor of the players but is against them to destroy them. However, in my opinion, those who depend on gambling have some goals, especially getting rich quick, they have humanity, they may win big and gradually they become a habit here which leads them to losses. Probably because they felt convinced that gambling is the only means in which they could get rich easily, or they might have probably tried a whole lot of stuffs and it didn't work for them, so they tried gambling and then won some good amount quickly, that must have made them want to depend on gambling for survival. Lastly, some people have luckily made a huge amount from gambling and as a result of that, they decided to continue gambling, believing they could make such a huge profit again.

 

If you say that they depend on gambling for survival because they feel convinced, then we may be forced to ask the question, what was their conviction to choose gambling as a means of generating income, because as much as we can see, gambling has no positive results on their personal life since they are going to end up losing anyway.

There is nothing that can convince someone to choose gambling as a means of survival, since one can easily see the results of that choice in those who have become addicted and indebted via excessive gambling.

I'm not like them but I know that for what ever decision someone takes, there's a reason why they took that decision and to see that someone keeps gambling as if their life depends on it, it means that this person  have been convinced in one way or the other that they can make a lot of money from gambling, I sometimes ask the same question you asked but what I could only find is that some of them are influenced by their previous wins or the success stories that they have listened to from other players.

it is because there are people on this world and also on the internet who believe that having a job and being a productive member of society is one of the worst things which could have to one.

I know, but it is a very crazy thing to do and somehow I was trying to convince myself that with the economic situation in the world and the hard quest for survival, I was thinking that it is enough motivation to people to strive at getting productive knowing fully well that survival alone is a tough work in recent times.

There is an entire reddit dedicated to people who do not want to get a job and wish to become freeloaders for the rest of their life: those reddits are /antiwork and /NEET.

This sounds very funny to me and they're so shameless, maybe in their various countries, there is food for a lazy man, but in mine, even some hardworking men don't have enough food on their tables.

So to me it is not surprising there are people like those mentioned like OP. To them, it is better to live in the slums and continue to beg for the sake of gambling, instead of applying for a job in which they are expected to use their physical strength and inherit abilities.

One very concerning thing about these scenarios is that if they are not getting satisfactory money from the begging, they turn to robbery and other sorts of petty crimes.
