Hello,

I'd like to share my experience with Freewallet. I have an account there that I created in 2017 using my email address.

On January 16, 2026, I tried to send my Ethereum. Up until then, I hadn't made any transactions, and it's highly unlikely that any suspicious activity was involved. When I then attempted to make a transaction, I received the message: "Unsuccessful, Account suspended, please contact support." After contacting support, I received an email stating that my wallet had been suspended due to suspicious activity. I was then asked to prove the origin of my funds, provide my ID, all utility bills, proof of all transactions, verify my identity, answer numerous questions, and upload a selfie – a considerable amount of information. I submitted all of this and received two appointments for video ID verification at midnight and 5:00 AM. I was online twice at the appointment they gave me, but the Freewallet team wasn't. It was quite frustrating waiting for the video call arranged by Freewallet, but I tried to resolve the issue.

Now I've been told I have to pay a fee of £2,500.00 to release all blocks in other areas and unlock the account. UPDATE: this was a scamer who predended to be from Freewallet on Teams.

So far, I've answered all your questions and tried to be cooperative. Unlocking an account a few years ago was free and that's also an international standard.

I want my account unlocked, not paid. Furthermore, Freewallet has already deducted enough Ethereum from my account through inactivity fees.

This is just an attempt to expedite the process; perhaps someone from Freewallet is reading this.

What I don't like is that it would be better if they asked for ID and a selfie during registration, instead of deciding at their own discretion.

"Not your keys, not your coins."
I think you are familiar with that phrase

In 2026, there are so many noncustodial wallets out there. I see no reason why you continue to use FreeWallet, which is a custodial wallet and also a scam. I mean, they are even asking you for a "fee" to unlock your account. What on earth is that even supposed to mean?

See for yourself, this is the feedback they have on their forum profile - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=1177176

I am not sure if you will get back your money.

Asking for additional fees to unlock held funds is a clear sign of scam. But I think you somehow misunderstood the situation of OP the victim. He said that he didn't use his account since the date of creation back to 2017 and in last january tried to make a transaction. Then mentioned that the platform deducted from his balance as inactivity fee. I can understand that he already has ethereum in his account and has tried to withdraw them. Please correct me if I am missing any detail here:
I want my account unlocked, not paid. Furthermore, Freewallet has already deducted enough Ethereum from my account through inactivity fees.

I knew that Freewallet was shady and will try to scam you with excessive KYC requirements, but having inactivity fees and fees to unlock your account is taking it to the next level of scamming. Freewallet allegedly has the same owners as Changelly and some other instant exchanges that have similar practices.

I couldn’t think of a worse cryptocurrency business currently operating, yet they are still around after so many years. Roman Storm was arrested for creating smart contracts, yet these people who actually scam and launder money by pretending to be a legitimate service are able to go about their business without facing any consequences.

Sadly, this is nothing new. Like a lot of us have been saying for years now, it is astonishing how Freewallet has been scamming their customers for years now, and they are still doing so up until now, with impunity. If you search for "freewallet scam", i am pretty sure you'd be inundated with the number of results you would find. It is a crazy situation and even more crazy is the fact that they get away with everything they do.

One user even started an online petition against Freewallet sometime back:
