Do you remember if you left the coin on an exchange wallet or exchange? If that is it, you will need to remember the exchange and also have access to the email that you used to access the exchange. In one of his later posts he is said that bitcoin was sent from that platform this his own wallet, and since it was a long time ago, maybe it was even one of the non custodial ones like blockchain.info, that many people used back in the day (I used it too when I was a newbie and didn't know better). This happened around late 2016. I’m not so sure with wallet, but the last time i had a conversation with my friend, he said it was from a platform called Bitx. Then it was sent to my wallet which was created on my computer.

A lot of persons and things I read has been talking about this seed pharse, but I don’t have it. Even if I did have it, it will be in my old computer..
Sorry Rafel but it means that there's no way to recover those Bitcoins if you or your friend haven't save the seed phrase of that wallet where those Bitcoins were kept. Does that mean I can’t get the Bitcoin without a seed pharse?
Sad to say, yes. You will not make it and there is no way to recover if you don't have the seed phrase because that's the important thing that we have to keep in order to recover the wallet we've kept our Bitcoins.

If you mean BitX they changed their name to Luno in the year 2017 BitX Rebrands as Luno, Launches New Services to "Take Bitcoin to the MoonIt's an exchange, your friend bought the coin from there , so the fault is probably coming from you if he truly sent your sats. Now, you need to remember where you received it, an exchange or a non-custodial wallet? Think but if it's a non custodial wallet you will definitely need the seedphrase to access, with an exchange you will need to try all email address you've ever own (since you can't recall which) with the hope of also retrieving the password .

Good day everyone, I have been trying to recover the Bitcoin a friend of mine helped me buy some years back.. Can I be helped here? Bitcoin is really expensive now, so i really need to get those bitcoins. what is this platform for btw? Because this website looks really old. I wonder what’s going on here and if I can be helped here.
This is bitcointalk and all we do here is to discuss about Bitcoin, you are on the right platform and the purpose of this is to engage every bitcoin user across the world to use and discuss Bitcoin, but I'm sorry you may not be able to recover your lost bitcoin by this or from here. Also, the first need to figure out where your asset was, did you make use of a non-custodial wallet or a custodi wallet like an exchange, the only way to recover your bitcoin when being on a non-custodial wallet is by your seed phrase or private key, while from a custodial wallet, always know that not your keys not your coins, if you lose access to that exchange you used, then I'm not sure you can be able to recover back your assets, between, don't let anyone deceive you they can help you recover anything because they will rather implicate you the more and scam.

Only your friend can solve your problem, try to contact him, then ask him what platform he used when buying Bitcoin. Here we can only guide, but cannot help completely because each platform has a different recovery method. Never serve anyone you don't know who tries to contact you to ask for login information when registering on the platform, usually people like this just want to take advantage of your ignorance in the recovery process, they just want to take advantage and never have any intention of helping you.

the most important thing to figure out is where the coins were stored.
If they were on an exchange, you need access to the account/email.
If they were in a personal wallet on your computer, you’ll need the seed phrase, private key, or wallet file.
Without those, recovery is usually not possible. But if you remember which wallet or platform was used, people here might be able to guide you better.

Unfortunately, if you don’t have access to the private keys or recovery phrase, recovering the Bitcoin is nearly impossible. Try reaching out to your friend who helped you buy it and ask if they have the wallet details. This platform is for discussing Bitcoin and crypto topics, but it’s not designed for individual support issues. I recommend contacting the wallet provider or checking online guides for wallet recovery options.

You are telling half the story, and I don't think anyone can guide you like this because your story is not complete. If you want guidance from the forum, you have to tell us the full story of how you lost your Bitcoin, not just by saying that your friend helped you to buy Bitcoin. It is very possible that your friend did not help you to buy any Bitcoin, or it is possible that he bought it, showed it to you, and later went back and sold it. Things like that have happened before, so we need the full story to clarify whether your friend truly helped you to buy the Bitcoin and whether he or she did not tamper with it. Another thing is the name of the website. You really need to know the name of the website. Also, they are not helping any member to recover their Bitcoin; they can only guide a member if they are facing some challenges, so get that in your head. And also be careful because some people may message you saying they will help you. It is very possible that they are scammers.

If you are saying the truth, just be very careful of some people that will PM you, telling you that they are recovery service, that they can help you. If these people in your PM do not say that they are a recovery service, or that they can help you recover your bitcoin, they will try referring you to a service outside the forum, maybe an individual or a platform that is obviously a scam, just to make things look more serious, like they are not the same persons hiding under the identity they have referred you to or the owners of the platform where recovery is done. In all, just avoid Private messages on this topic.

Which wallet are you using? If you do not have a seed phrase to access your wallet, you have already lost the Bitcoin you own. It has been quite a long time to realize that the Bitcoin that used to be worth little is now valuable. Make sure you can still turn on your old computer. Or at least the files stored in it. Or you can try contacting your friends. No matter how much you own, if it is worth fighting for, then make the effort.

Yes, you can't have it; the seed phrase is the key through which you can unlock your wallet. But without it, think of it like the lock on a door that will not open. If you have that computer and the seed phrase stored in it, then yes, you can open it. However, since many years have passed, like from 2026 until now, I don't think you still have that old computer without any damage. So you have two options, look for that seed phrase in your computer, or you can just forget about what you bought in 2016.

You lost, or there's no need of private key or seed phrase to access the platform after they rebrand to Luno. A lot of persons and things I read has been talking about this seed pharse, but I don’t have it. Even if I did have it, it will be in my old computer.. Does that mean I can’t get the Bitcoin without a seed pharse?
Yes, unfortunately if you have lost your ''Seed Recovery Phrase'' and login details for your Bitx account then you cannot access your bitcoin funds. It is important to understand that you have not lost your bitcoin funds, they still exist, but you have lost access to them. The only advice I can give you is to search your old computer (if you have replaced it) or old email and try to find your Bitx login details or 'Seed Recovery Phrase'. This is the only way to get your bitcoin funds back. Good luck! Even if he searches his old computer, there's no way for him to get access to the Bitcoin because the BitX that was operating around 2016 was a cryptocurrency wallet and exchange platform founded in 2013, but in early 2017, BitX rebranded to Luno. Therefore, this is another case of "not your key, not your coin".

OP l, this is one of those reasons why it's good to always write down your doings because of the future, if you have written down the name of the platform or wallet it will be easy to trace where you might have left the coins. All this is actually your fault, normally you should have written down your recovery seed as well, now we can't even tell if you really left the coins on Luno ( formerly Bitx). I believe you are still in that guessing stage, give yourself some time and think things through, maybe you can remember.

Are you sure that your guy you call a friend is not a bad friend, because we have seen issues like this in school days but we later discover that her friend was the one that gain access to her friend wallet to transfer all the BTC to another new wallet she downloaded. But the luck she have is that her friend her not delete the wallet from her phone before someone gave us the idea to open her phone for check, and they found the Link of her friend wallet address in her new wallet she downloaded to transfer her friend BTC to the new BTC address. I will advise you to meet your friend that help you to buy the BTC and also help you to download the BTC wallet to hodl the BTC, because my spirit is telling me something that your friend know something about your missing BTC OP.

This platform is meant for bitcoin discussion and bitcoin technical development...as a novice in bitcoin, you can acquire the knowledge of bitcoin through this platform...if you go deeper in research of this platform, you will found out other important things that will make you to stay...

There is a lot of half-baked advice going around. Let me help. A wallet holds Bitcoin, the wallet can be yours or it can be from a third party, like a cryptocurrency trading platform. If you have your own wallet, you can access it on your own computer with the wallet app you used before. All you need is a password. But if you lost the password or the app data, you can still access it with the seed phrase you got when you created the wallet for the first time. But, if your wallet is in a third party platform, then you will not be given the seed phrase. You will have to access the platform through the username/password of your third party platform account. The third party platform could grant you access if you can prove the account belongs to you.
