This is another fight between a veteran and a youth which is an uphill battle for the 43 year old Nonito Donaire. Riku Masuda has a record of 9-1 with 8 knockout victories which means that this Japanese boxer is a no joke.

Glad to see that Nonito will have a chance again to fight for the title, but it's interesting that if he will win here, he will have to fight for the belt holder, - Tsutsumi. Who he just lost last December in a split decision. And so this will be like a revenge for Donaire, but he has to go over Masuda first. Yes, but before, he had some fights that lasted and so he had a good gas tank. But as he age, it was sure that his stamina is going to be affected just like in the last fight wherein he could have a better chance to win if he had his second wind and not lose on the judges card, but it's a split decision so it could go either way. Alright once again another Philippines Pride will have a bout. This is probably a classic match up between veteran and young ones. I cant say this a one sided match already but Donaire experienced says it all. Of course Im a filipino and seeing our countrymen fight with pride will always be our biggest joy. I am bit confident that Donaire has an advantage with this one but for some reason we cant deny that young boxers stepping up already. Riku Masuda has potential here and got strong punches. But I don’t think he’s at the same level as Naoya Inoue, and Donaire has already faced fighters like that. Probably, I mean, if you check Masuda's boxrec, he lost to Tsutsumi, but seeing Masuda's KO rate, it means that Masuda has strong punches, and Donaire needs to be careful with those, he could get hit with one strong punch, and he could go down. Donaire also need to check his stamina, one of the reasons why he lost to Tsutsumi is that he started slowing down in the middle rounds, and Tsutsumi took advantage of that.

It’s always a gamble when taking the odds, but if it’s also about supporting him then I think it’s reasonable to pick him to win. Nonito Donaire is not the type who easily backs down, he usually goes for the knockout and if his conditioning is good, which I assume it is since he had plenty of rest, we might actually see him pull off a win here.

After all his opponent Riku Masuda is not really considered a world class boxer yet, while Donaire still carries a lot of confidence and experience.

If he wasn’t afraid to face Naoya Inoue before, then I’m pretty sure he’s confident about this fight too. People keep bringing up his age but I think Nonito Donaire knows exactly what he’s doing, and he wouldn’t risk his health if he wasn’t prepared for it. Just think about when Manny Pacquiao fought Barrios. Many people were worried Manny might lose because Barrios was much bigger and the champion at that time, but the fight turned out very competitive and Manny even almost won it.

So in this case we shouldn’t worry too much. It’s fine to support Donaire, but we should also believe that he still has the capability to win this fight.

Usually that kind of bet would just be listed near the fight night as this is not a big fight. But currently, Donaire is the underdog, however, it's not he is 3:1 or something. The odds is still close, Masuda close to 1.5x-1.6x to win, against Donaire who is 2.3x to win.

But let's see if there will be swing bet on favor of Donaire as there are a lot of fans here that will support here because we still wanted to see him at least getting his last chance for the belt. And in any case, that underdog odd is already sweet for us so we will take it.

As for the KO, we can only wait for that as it could also be a juicy odd.

Riku Masuda is a good prospect to become the next Japanese superstar. I have seen him beating Jonas Sultan by hard body shots, he has good jab moves a lot, and can give good timing. I still believe in Nonito; he still has it, if we judge by his last fight against Tsutsumi, where he lost by a controversial split decision.
Nonito needs to dig deep into his arsenal. He is in for a tough fight here; although Nonito is an underdog, he has a good chance to win against Masuda.

If you're a big Donaire fan, this is the fight that's worth supporting and betting for your idol. I will not be surprised if Donaire pulls an upset here; he is still capable of doing that.
