Do you consider yourself a smart bettor? In what sense can you say that about yourself, especially if you’re not really winning your bets?

Many of us here have been gambling for years already. If we look at it honestly, some people would probably say it’s stupid to keep gambling if we’re not actually making money from it. Yet we’re still here, still betting, still following games and odds. So can we really call ourselves smart bettors if we’re losing in the long run? Or is that just something we tell ourselves so it’s easier to keep gambling?

At the same time, if we’ve been doing this for years, maybe there’s still something we get out of it. Not money, but maybe the entertainment, the experience, understanding the games and odds better, or just enjoying the action. For those who have been gambling for years but are not really profitable, do you still consider yourself a smart bettor? If yes, what makes you say that?

I don't think I can beat the odds. The moment I had this realisation I started feeling a lot better. There's no reason for me to win too much and hence no need to bet big amounts. I'm doing it for the thrill of it and only looking into matches I like. It can be very occasional and also any win is an extra bonus.

How you ever asked an old person if they gambled during their youth days and what exactly is the reason they kept gambling not because they are not aware that they can’t win in the long run , what exactly is the reason behind the keep gambling? Now every one knows this days that for you to win one, you probably have lost 9 so the only reason we keep gambling and not considering smartness is because we find it entertaining and triggering for fun. There is no way around gambling that you will be a smart gambler, outsmarting the system is the exact moment you are lost. No smart gambler instead we have fun gamblers.

Otherwise, unwise gamblers have been dealt with their emotions and they're not able to control it and the same with their bankroll, they're not considered smart.

I would call myself a smart bettor not because I'm out smarting the house or bookies but I'm smart because I always make sure that I stake an  amount of money that I can afford to lose and I do everything according to a budget instead of gambling carelessly. If I was losing too much then I wouldn't say that my bankroll strategy or management is helping me but I'm smart because I gamble responsibly.

I consider myself a smart bettor recently because I don't really bet too much anymore, unlike how I did in the past, totally a stupid gambler without thinking of how important money and control are in gambling.

The smarter ones are those who quit after winning a big one. They grabbed the opportunity to walk away as winners and never came back. Smart bettors are those who seek to have fun and will not mess with their budget and savings while still being entertained by a little bit of money that they put on the line to make the sport more enjoyable to watch.
IMO, it all depends on how it gives joy to the person/gambler. Some people just like the adrenaline, and some love gambling and taking risks. I don't think there's a right answer here.

I'm not a smart bettor, but I think you can only call them a smart bettor if they can fully understand gambling and how to control themselves.
Anyone can be a smart bettor if they know how to analyze the game before they bet. Usually most of us here knows how to analyze so for me, those people are the one who are smart bettors and I can be one of them.

However, we are supposed to not treat gambling as a source of income; we should understand in the long run we will lose.
You can be a smart bettor, but you can't beat the casino.

I think I read a similar opinion that I am about to write above. Yes, I would still consider myself a smart bettor and the reason is simply because I don’t have any unrealistic expectations from gambling. I know that I’m not profiting from it, but my continued gambling doesn’t have anything to do with some kind of “hope” that one day I might hit jackpot.

It’s simply just for fun and sometimes (rarely) monetary gain too, but with a very low amount.

There is no other answer here, I would not call myself a stupid gambler either, so I guess I’m a smart bettor.
What really made me continue gambling despite the losses accumulated through the years is the fun and thrill of gambling. I know without that feeling I would stop anytime, but I still have that until now.

It’s like if I have extra funds I would always dedicate some of that to gambling. It’s not really a full loss either since sometimes I have those lucky moments where I enjoy the victory, so it’s just like that. Most important is still having fun despite being overall in net loss.

I do not, if I was a smart bettor I would be a billionaire by now. I am a degenerate parlay bettor who manages to get lucky once in awhile but down in the long run. It's fun and makes games a bit more exciting. I lose so many parlays by 1 game so if I did have a brain i'd bet single games and make some money.

‎A smart bettor is a bettor who doesn't go above his limit of both time and money. Gamble what you can afford to lose. ‎Gamblers that know when to quit, either while winning or while losing. Gamblers who know how to withdraw a win and enjoy it rather than spending it all back in gambling. There are older people who had been gambling for years, yet no huge jackpot to change their life, but little win and contentment. These gamblers aren't addicted either but haven't quit gambling even when the win is not stable. This is my definition of a smart bettor, and I am a smart bettor.

Even if I won many bets, I will never claim that I'm a smart bettor. Smart bettor means to have a high chance for winning the bets. I am still not in that level, I am still average bettor. Moreover if someone who never wins it or rarely wins it, how can he claim that he is a smart bettor? Sometimes, being too confident isn't really good, it can harm us.

First of all, how you can determine whether it is profitable or not? Do you mean profitable when someone has better stats of wins over loses?  
I'm sure there are very few people who want to claim that they are smart bettor. I honestly never saw the such comment in this forum that someone said "he is a smart bettor". Well, maybe they say that to ensure to people whether he is seriously in betting.

I am still gambling till today despite I have lost hudge amount of money to gambling, because I see gambling as something fun and entertaining, and I always gamble with an amount of money I can afford to lose. So the amount of money I have lost so far to gambling is what I can afford to lose. So this smart bettor of a thing have nothing to do with me, beside I don't know if I am a smart bettor or not. Wether I win or lose it is not concern, because gambling is not my source of income.

A smart gambler in short, won't have any financial burden owed to gambling. So even if he is into gambling from time to time, it won't affect his financial needs. And that for me is already being a smart bettor. Because if it is already interfering your financial life, it means, you are doing something wrong with this activity. And that you need to alter your routine that won't affect your financial aspects.

No? LMAO  But, only in a sense that where I place my bets, no critical thinking is needed. Why? It's because I mostly just play on slots. With that sort of game, there's no need for skills or careful planning. As long as you've got some cash to burn, spin it, and wait for Lady Luck to smile at you. That's all there is (at least for me). Well, maybe a little smart to know when to quit and take a profit. I'm the type that doesn't chase wins or losses.

Honestly, I don't see anything much about this question because it's obvious that gambling accept you the way you approach it. There are many smart bettors in the game, being a smart gambler it's not all about winning, rather it's a matter of discipline and self control that can easily make you a smart gambler. Sometimes I don't know why we always feel that winning is everything in gambling, there are gamblers who don't care if there is anything like winning in the game, they are just there to entertain themselves and have fun without any plans of getting winning in the game.

Winning and losing do not make you a smart gambler, rather, it is how disciplined you are in gambling that will make you a smart gambler. There is no easy formula for staying undefeated in gambling, so if you consider yourself a smart gambler based on winning and losing, then you are the biggest fool.

A smart gambler is someone who knows how to stop at the right time, knows how to protect himself from temptation, knows how to avoid winning and losing and is not dependent on gambling. Now consider what kind of gambler you are.

If the definition of a smart gambler is someone who can beat the bookies in the long run, that's a bit difficult to accept because of the house edge. So I define a smart gambler as someone who gambles responsibly, betting within their means. Personally, I can say I'm a smart gambler at some point because I'm able to control my emotions and stop betting until the following week. But I'm also a foolish gambler, still prone to greed, caught up in the euphoria of winning, and ultimately gamble away all my winnings.

Sometimes, because when I gamble with the money I have and I don't overspend, I think it's a smart move but when I overspend, my intelligence disappears, I start losing, I gambled with money I shouldn't have lost, and from then on I'm bitter because I wasn't able to believe in my own plan, which was meant to protect me from losing more money foolishly, Gamblers must establish limits so that emotions don't take control.
