Do you consider yourself a smart bettor? In what sense can you say that about yourself, especially if you’re not really winning your bets?

The only way I consider myself being Smart is by having self control and being financially smart as not to gamble above my expectations. That is only what I consider being smart. Aside that, there is no smartness in Gambling when you know you are losing and yet you still keep on gambling.

Many of us here have been gambling for years already. If we look at it honestly, some people would probably say it’s stupid to keep gambling if we’re not actually making money from it. Yet we’re still here, still betting, still following games and odds. So can we really call ourselves smart bettors if we’re losing in the long run? Or is that just something we tell ourselves so it’s easier to keep gambling?

I think not everyone is a Smart Gambler, many are not, but the question is who will accept to be call such name. Of course everyone thinks they are smart even when they are not. Like I said earlier, I consider a person who gamble without getting addicted, or not gambling above his financial abilities to be a smart Gambler. But when you don't have self control over your gambling habits, then you are not Smart. because you can even gamble with the money you intend using for more important thing. So if you find yourself in this category of this last paragraph, then consider yourself not smart.

Honestly, I don't consider myself a smart bettor because I've lost a lot from bets based on my own analysis. But I think being a smart bettor isn't just about winning or losing. A smart bettor is someone who knows their limits and knows when to stop. Enjoying the game without chasing losses and without ruining my finances, that's what I'd call a smart decision as a bettor. I don't have to be profitable to be smart. I just need to know how to control myself.

Being a smart better does not really mean that we are winning our bet each time we Gamble, bit instead, we are being found responsible of every overall step and decision taken in gambling, also ensuring that they are more accurately found in line with what we have set as our target towards gambling.

In addition, we just have to see ourselves as a smart Gambler because we are being responsible to every of our actions, being minded not to take the risk we cannot afford, and also having the mindset of setting targets to ensure that all of our aim to gamble is achieved by having fun and being entertained while doing so.

Gambling is not something you can beat, the only way to beat gambling is if you get lucky at earlier stage of your gambling activities and you quit right after, which is not going to happen because once you start gambling you aren't stopping.

The main reason why gambling will triumph over gamblers is because they won't stop, they will keep coming back for more games and that's where something they don't plan for will happen.

I don't need to be smart about gambling, I am fine risking what I can lose and it's not important that I must gamble any time, there are better ways to make money, gamble only if you want the thrill or fun.

I consider myself as dumb bettor because I keep betting despite of the house edge that guaranteed that I will lose in the long run.

Yet I do ignore those fact because my main goal is the entertainment part which I consider those house edge as side effects for this kind of entertainment.

Just like alcohol that you get drunk, in gambling you will lose money after an intense round.

Exactly, and it will be of a good thing for one to gamble smartly and rightly, which involves gambling within your budget, set limits to your gambling attitude or habit, that is to say that not everytime you have to gamble, which will be able to know when to gamble and when to give it break, which it will help you to remain focused and understand that gambling is totally for fun and if one has other alternative reasons why they gamble, which they have to face any consequences of any actions they take.

You should win if you do something is not a healthy attitude that will lead to lot of disappointments, so better be smart one and just do whatever you want because at the end of the day you are gambling to make more money or you just want to feel the thrill?

I am happy with the thrill alone and when I win that will obviously make me extra happy, that's the way to do it.

Smart gamblers are those who survive in gambling for a long time without any major financial loss. In this case, all the things you have highlighted are important. Especially fixing the limit of your gambling amount and staying within this limit  is the most important thing for a gambler. Apart from that, there is an issue of funding in gambling, in which case a gambler should bet with the money that he does not need for any urgent needs. A person does various things for entertainment, where money is also spent. If you win or lose some money for that purpose, you should not be mentally unstable in gambling. If you bet for the purpose of entertainment and can control your emotions responsibly, you can be called a smart gambler.

Money is meant to be spent. You earn so you can spend it on things you love, whatever those things are... If you like to gamble and you can afford to spend some money on gambling here & there, I don't see anything wrong or stupid in that. It's your money, and you can use it as you like.

Yes I don't think there is anything more than that because being in control of yourself and stop at the right time is actually the things that makes you smart gambler. Of course smart bettors has nothing to worry about because they know how to manage their funds to stay longer in gambling because they are always prepared for any outcome without thinking of chasing after their losses.

Even if I won many bets, I will never claim that I'm a smart bettor. Smart bettor means to have a high chance for winning the bets. I am still not in that level, I am still average bettor. Moreover if someone who never wins it or rarely wins it, how can he claim that he is a smart bettor?

I agree, when someone is overconfident enough to claim they are a smart bettor or the luckiest with lots of wins, that doesn't mean they will always have that luck. Claiming to be a smart bettor only makes them feel like they can beat the system, but the system isn't easy for bettors to beat. Even if they're an expert as sports analysis, they still possible to make a mistakes. Overconfident also very possible to make bettors to forget about self-control in favor of that status and their claim. IMO

I don’t think any of the gamblers here are playing with the goal of making money in the long run, or that they’re playing solely for that purpose. Actually, what we’re focused on is just today’s games, how much money we’ll lose or win today. I don’t know if it’s even possible to be a “smart” bettor, because the very act of gambling already puts you outside that category. Do you think a “smart” person would ever take risks in the gambling world knowing full well they’re going to lose money?

If we classify gamblers, I see myself as a somewhat more conscious gambler. I know people who gamble in a much more reckless and wasteful manner than I do.

A smart bettor only gambles with what they can afford to lose. And I am doing that, maybe to claim that I am a smart bettor in that case.

Otherwise, unwise gamblers have been dealt with their emotions and they're not able to control it and the same with their bankroll, they're not considered smart.

I totally agree that a smart bettor is who uses amount that they can afford to loose because that is what you have a control over as far as betting is concerned, another aspect that a smart bettor have a control over is how long you can spend in a betting site. You can claim to be smart because of your skills in sports bet but if you ask yourself a honest question whether your skills are profitable for you on the long run the answer will determine whether you are a smart bettor or not. As long you are losing more than what you win it means that your smartness in gambling is not yielding fruit. See sports bet as entertainment that is a smart strategy because you don't control whether you will win or not.

Honestly, it's difficult for me to categorize an "expert" bettor. Perhaps the exact definition could be a football or sports expert in general. Perhaps that's a more appropriate term.
But "professional bettor" I just can't call it.

The more I try to devise smart strategies to win games, the more I understand that it's not all about skills. A gambling pattern that had brought wins constantly would suddenly fail to be effective. If you are into gambling solely because you want to make money from it, you would be disappointed.

I see myself as a smart gambler because I gamble responsibly. But if smart gambling entails winning consistently or being in profit, then I consider myself not smart.

I've never really thought about it, I'm just a normal bettor who relies only on my knowledge and a bit of luck. I’ve never considered myself a smart gambler or a dumb one cause as long as I can gamble in a normal way without being greedy, without getting addicted and without trying to chase my losses, etc. I’m already satisfied with who I am.

Winning or losing is part of the game, I accept the result whatever it is and we all know that gambling doesn't guarantee that we will become profitable. With that reality, we should already understand that not making money in this industry is completely normal.

In short, being responsible gambler is the only way to become a smart bettor on gambling because you will limit your losses to the point that it’s okay to lose which I totally agree.

There’s guaranteed bet in any type of gambling either casino games or sportsbook since it still relies on luck to fully achieve profit.

So being smart doesn’t mean only you win a lot but also by limiting your losses.
