Do you consider yourself a smart bettor?

Not even close, I don't see myself being that smart as a bettor because I could barely have good runs back when I took gambling more seriously. Those smart bettors would probably be on the same level as being a professional, or those who've been making a living through bets.

Even if i'm only after the entertainment side of gambling, I still wouldn't put myself that high unless I can consistently deliver wins like those bettors who get limited because they win too much.

Honestly, speaking, I don't consider myself a smart bettor because when I look back to my betting history on the most favorite sports I like the most (mainly football and tennis), and the average number of matches per ticket is 4 to 8 matches, I remember I just won once Lol  All my winnings were when I bet on a single match or in rare cases two matches if the odds are raisonnable.

I share the opinion with some others who consider the smart bettor not just by the number of won bets, but also extend to some bahaviors like adherence to a specific budget in a set limited time so that gambling practice doesn't exceed the limits to become a behavioral addiction.

When someone is not making profit from gambling and cannot make informed decision, such person is not worth a smart bettor. Gambling is not fun, the reason is because we risk our money, and for this very reason gamblers are meant to remain smart, using the best strategy to gamble.
The smartness in gambling is not how much you are targeting to win or how often you gamble. But when we say a gambler is smart, it means the gambler is making smart decision, making proper research before placing his bet , and probably recording more success than how he or she looses bet. If a gambler is always loosing his bet, no matter the method the person is applying, so far there is no success record there is no smartness at all.
Many of the gamblers are after  chasing huge win with small stake, and they gamble week in, week out, season in, and season out and hardly record winning, such gambling is wrong. But when a gambler makes more profit than losses, and even though the profit is not huge but coming on regular basis, I think there is smartness in such strategy as long term winning streak can yield a significant amount.

No gambler will want admit he's not a smart gambler perhaps they will always want to claim still staying on top of their game, but to me the only reason I should still consider myself as a smart gambler is that am not chasing lost that am very sure of and I can attest to it, my main reason I gamble is for fun but that doesn't mean if winnings come I wouldn't accept definitely I will, and lastly I do accept every outcome of my games regardless and this has been helping me greatly and keeping me in the best state of mind.

I don't really know if I should call myself a smart bettor or not, but one thing I can say is that I'm still a responsible bettor, which means I'm managing my loss very well. Even though I'm not making profit in the long run, the hope that the next game could be a winning one keeps us going. Many of us here have been gambling for years already. If we look at it honestly, some people would probably say it’s stupid to keep gambling if we’re not actually making money from it.

It depends on what the purpose of gambling is for you. It's clear that you're in  for the money, so whenever you don't win anything tangible, you consider yourself not smart enough?!
Having expectations is delusional and nothing makes it justifiable. If we all gamble for different reasons, with a different purpose, the criterion for being a 'smart' bettor is also different.

So can we really call ourselves smart bettors if we’re losing in the long run? Or is that just something we tell ourselves so it’s easier to keep gambling?

For me, it's fixed that a gambler must lose. What I have control of, which is what defines smartness in gambling is how far I can go, and how much I can spend.

Even a stupid gambler can see the foolishness of another gambler. As long as I know what I'm doing and maintain control over my gambling, I don't consider myself stupid. But that doesn't mean I have to be smart just to win.

I don't want to praise myself here, but considering this aspect of me, I want to call myself a smart bettor because when I gamble, I always stake an amount that is within my ability to lose and it does not have any impact on my financial activity. And I think most of the people who gamble responsibly in this way are basically smart bettors.

I'm not a smart bettor. I still gamble given the fact that i'm not fortunate, I still keep on playing not only to kill time but of course, there's still this hope to win. I consider myself a wise bettor. A long time ago I worked at a bookmaker’s office, where I saw how many different players placed their bets. I asked many of them how they made their bets and how they analyzed games, listened to their discussions with each other, and observed whose strategies actually worked. From that experience, both as a player and as a manager who accepted bets, I can say that there are many other ways to earn money in the world. People who choose betting as their main source of income are exposed to a lot of stress and risk. I am not a smartbettor as per my own analysis. Because I am emotional and I don't want to end the day without even a single win. So, I don't care if I am currently in a losing streak but I just don't want to see the day ends without me having any green on my results slip. It's not really about winning bets cause all bettors depend on luck and the house would always be smarter since they have more edge. Because you are winning, it does not make you a smart bettor, it only proves that you are lucky to win.
I dont consider myself a smart bettor because I know there are times I make mistakes, wrong decisions, and times when I get greedy.
I will consider myself a low-risk bettor. A sports bettor that dont get too greedy and, if offered a reasonable cashout amount, will take it.

Not because you are not making a profit, you cannot be considered a smart bettor; you are a smart bettor if you analyse your games, and you enjoy doing this, the smart thing to do in gambling is you enjoy doing this without expectation of making money, winning will come when there is an opportunity.
Smart betting is making ourselves safe, because there are so many traps in gambling that many gamblers fail to realize, and
eventually ruin their lives.

I am not a smart bettor and I just a gambler who want to playing gambling and place my bet occasionally. Being smart bettors needs many things that I can't learn so I believe that will works for those who always learning.

I only use limit fund and time and not trying to making money as I know that is difficult.

No matters how much money I use, that will not guarantee me to double the amounts so it is better I enjoy the moment.

I don't know about you but for some of us, I think winning isn't a priority really, like myself for example, gone are the days when I gamble and winning is the major reason why I'm gambling because that is the only way I consider myself profitable from the games played, but one experience I had a couple of years ago change my mind completely on that..

Today and this days actually, I consider myself a smart bettor even if I am not winning but have my peace of mind, because in the end, what matters really is whether we are at peace with ourself or not, like someone who gambles and loses money he or she isn't supposed to gamble with in the first place obviously won't be at peace with himself, he will surely be under seen or unseen pressure to find a way to replace that money before what the money was meant for starts calling.
But when you Gamble only with money you can loses and still feel like you lost nothing because you actually lost nothing, then you are a smart bettor.

Sure, many gamblers here might consider themselves as a smart bettor, because if they doubt themselves, then they shouldn't gamble at all. My point is that when we gamble we are very much confident of our bet or at least we feel that we are in total control of everything and that we're going to win.

Or smart as per definition on knows when to stop or quit and not push themselves even further. So maybe you have won enough money already and think that you can't bring the house down, so it's better to just let's say won $1k in a give night and exit. Or if you are losing money already, so to stop the bleeding, you decided to fight another day.

As long as you take gambling as it's meant to be taken — like an entertainment, gamble within limits and don't let losses disturb you, IMO that's smart gambling.
