I don't think it is even good for people to place gambling as a hobby, because considering gambling a hobby means a game you often play without having a limit. The problem people normally have is going into gambling without understanding and no boundaries, and people with this kind of understanding often fall into the negative effects of gambling.

Not necessarily that a gambler must win every day but they win once, twice or trice a week which they can use to buy food. And as for me anything you do to give you money once a while or regular and it is not your regular job is a side hustle. If this week is not good for you, it will goo foe another person and next week might be your turn.

I believe gambling is a side hussle, because is not a game for major source of income and does not guarantee regular source of income. There are people who make profit from gambling, and there are also lucky gamblers who have won huge amount of money and which has helped to change their financial stories.
Every gambler are not profiting at the same rate. While some gamblers win more often than they loose, other gamblers loose more than they win and some gamblers records winning once in a while and these different set of people will interpret gambling in different ways. Gambling isn't a job and such doesn't fall in any of the categories you just stated. However, even if gambling is consider as a side hustle there is no guarantee of profits from it. So it will be best if gambling isn't considered as a source of income but rather a means of entertainment. Gambling should be more of fun and not to be seen or considered as a means of making money.
