We have seen how a lot of people complain of losing their seed phrase, and that is why keeping your seed phrase safe is extremely important, it’s the master key to your Bitcoin. And If someone gets it, they can take all your bitcoin and If you lose it, all your bitcoin are gone forever.
So as a newbie coming into Bitcoin investment you need to understand this and keep your seed phrase safe and the best way to do that is by engraving or stamping your seed phrase on stainless steel just like the picture above, and the reason why it is seen as the best is because of it’s resistance to fire, water and physical damage to some extent.
So all Newbies should use this method, especially those who are planning on holding for long term, because it’s more safe.

Tungsten is the strongest metal but it can easily shatter. Aluminum is not very strong and not recommended as well. There are many different metals in the world. Sodium and potassium are metals but you can use a table knife to cut them. So it would be good if you are specific on the metals that should be used for seed phrase backup.

The recommended metals are stainless steel and Titanium. Titanium is more hit resistant and lighter than stainless steel, but it is more expensive, while stainless steel still have the excellent properties for seed phrase backup.

Metal storage is definitely the way to go and in particular Stainless Steel! only drawback with
SS is that it is quite hard so extra effort is required to stamp your words into.

SS at about 7mm + thick is sufficiently fire resistant and corrosion resistant from water.

If anyone is up to it you can buy SS plate offcuts online, but a letter and number stamping kit
and you can do multiple plates!

As some others have already written, the point is not only to save the backup on a metal plate, but to choose one that is really resistant to fire, water, pressure, corrosion and various chemicals. Jameson Lopp has shown in his tests that some of these backups have failed the tests, which means that such a backup is not something you can rely on.

Remember one thing, metal is better than paper, but two or more backups are better than one because you can always lose a backup.

Metal plates can be more durable and resistant better to fire, water, acid, erosion, stress and more but they're kind of more cumbersome then paper piece. It's good if Bitcoin users have their wallet backups in both paper pieces and metal plates but I really don't think having only paper piece or metal plate is a good wallet backup approach.

Using different wallet backup methods, storing backups at at least two locations, and we will have less risk of losing the wallet entirely from original wallet to all wallet backups.

Create multiple backups, spread them to multiple locations you can trust, this multiple backups can be in different forms incase pen on paper eventually fail you .  You can only have a better backup but it doesn’t eliminate anything about you losing your coins  when someone gets their hands on either the paper or metal backups.

Btw some class of metals can’t withstand high temp incase of fire, so you have to shop wisely too

You are right, you will an experience person that can help you engrave these worlds into a metal plate for you to keep safe. Since you can’t do it alone, you will need someone with no experience in crypto currency, or you should just monitor the process from the beginning to the end so that you will ensure there is no duplicate or any form of copy of your seed phrase to avoid getting access to the wallet in your absence.

Furthermore, you can also be smart enough to rearrange the words in the way that only you can understand it so that anyone helping you can not know the right arrangement of your seed phrase and it will be even safer when saving incase someone have glance or see it will not know the right arrangement of your words that only you will have access to the wallet.

Metal should be better and more durable than regular paper backup, but not just any metal should be used.
Only stainless steel or titanium would be suitable, and not other type of metals that can rust easier or have low melting point.

Metal Backup doesn't prevent others from seeing or using your seedphrase
They are just better at been resistance to heat, water and the likes
Something paper backup fails to pass
And has been stated Titanium Is usually recommended.

No matter how strong the material for back up is
It means nothing if it's not properly kept
The biggest risk to seedphrase isn't fire or water but another person having access to it.

It depends on the person in question. Statistically only a small fraction of people actually Hodl huge amounts and with in that fraction is where you have the highest number of people who actually use these metal backups. Most people are operating hot wallets and don't really care.

The biggest quotes I believe in the case of hodling is using what works best for you. Some people prefer using only hardware wallets some air gapped device and many others the idea is to ensure it's safe.

Don't those metal plates usually come with some kind of tool to engrave your seed phrase yourself? Otherwise, what's the point?

By the way, even a metal plate isn't foolproof in case of fire. Good luck finding it if for example your house burns down and all that is left is rubble.

Why not, you just need the perfect tool to engrave on the metal. allowing someone engrave the keys on your steel automatically bridges privacy like you said, anyone can engrave using any method, either special tools or go through hard process using manual method. Metal back up is just one part of the back up plan, there should be more set up than using a metal plate to store the keys.

The topic about backup options for seed phrase are many in the forum already as people have dropped, and use of metals for backup have been extensively discussed in some of those threads. In your post you did not mention some of the challenges with this method knowing that there is no method without disadvantage, although some have managemeable disadvantages.  It is better to  lock this thread so that the discussion can continue in the other threads.

We always have to keep ideas on security up to date, no matter how much you think you know. But like some posts above mention, there’s nothing new here. I mean, it’s not like you’re going to make a little badge out of it and wear it around your neck.

​Now the level of protection, OP,  whether it’s titanium or just a piece of paper—is something you have to intuit for yourself. For instance, in the event of a natural disaster, a plate stamped onto the columns of your house won’t be safe. Obviously, not everyone faces such extreme situations; it’s something everyone assesses individually. That’s the premise you have to understand and accept.

​Ultimately, it’s a good idea to get a better metal die and use your creativity. Base it on your own intuition about the risks of protecting your passwords; and/or hey, maybe just use a permanent marker.

As some others have already written, the point is not only to save the backup on a metal plate, but to choose one that is really resistant to fire, water, pressure, corrosion and various chemicals. Jameson Lopp has shown in his tests that some of these backups have failed the tests, which means that such a backup is not something you can rely on.

Remember one thing, metal is better than paper, but two or more backups are better than one because you can always lose a backup.

Nothing is completely safe, but what has been shown and tested can be an option for what media is best as a seed backup.
But some people just want the perfect one and want one backup seed that can be used in the long term and resistant to all conditions, it's impossible because every material has a limit of resistance to extreme conditions.

And yes having more than one backup is better, using the strongest metal media or even using paper backup as well as another backup and keeping it in a safe place for each material used.

The selection of materials or containers used to store documents can choose stainless materials that are sturdier and resistant to rust or corrosion.
