I was checking out this casino the other day and I randomly won a $500 jackpot bonus, 1x wager. One they have built-in, I didn't enter any contest of whatever, it seems to be triggered randomly when you play. I got the notification, clicked on it and it opened a popup modal. Now, I don't know how many of you are familiar with how UIs work (or are supposed to work), but in a popup modal, the button 'cancel' is almost always used to close the modal.
This popup had the options to activate the bonus, and next there was a 'Cancel' button in normal grey. I saw the bonus and thought I'd activate it once I played with the funds I already had deposited, to avoid the infamous wager patterns casinos love to trap you in with these bonuses (It didn't say that bonus was 1x wager on the popup) so I absent-mindedly clicked cancel because that's what I'm used to click to close modals. As soon as I clicked, it canceled the bonus, without any type of warning or request of confirmation.

FYI, in normal practice, any destructive button is usually red and most importantly requires a confirmation step, and what they've done is called a dark pattern. Sort of like when apps hide membership cancellation buttons, except this is way worse.

Sent them an email for explanation, they first tried to say I canceled it after activating it and after also clicking on a confirmation warning. Both weren't true, as I never activated it and they don't have any confirmation step from the popup, only in the bonus page. When I made them notice that, they said regardless of where in the website, if I canceled it they can't reactivate it. Awesome customer experience.

After my emails, at least they changed the Cancel button in the popup to 'Forfeit bonus'. While still not showing any confirmation step anyway.

So yeah, nothing too bad at the end of the day because it wasn't my money, but I believe this says a lot about what these people might do. Just a warning.

This is my first time(as far as I remember) hearing a complaint like this about a casino. If you don't mind, can you share any evidence, like screenshots of the conversation you've had with their support, the jackpot bonus, etc? I am not saying that you are lying, it's just to make sure that this isn't a false complaint.

You can use this format to properly lay out your complaint.
Code:
[b][color=black]What happened:: [/color][/b]

[b][color=black]Scammers Profile Link: [/color][/b]

[b][color=black]Reference Link: [/color][/b]
[b][color=black]Amount Scammed: [/color][/b]
[b][color=black]Payment Method: [/color][/b]
[b][color=black]Proof of Payment: [/color][/b]
[b][color=black]PM/Chat Logs: [/color][/b]
[b][color=black]Additional Notes: [/color][/b]

Because they're probably the first to use a grey cancel button in a popup modal to one-shot cancel bonuses lmao.
In this video I replicated what happened https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sZjLUJbUQwlH2gX4xRQTUhaDCGobXvyO/view , but they already changed the button from 'Cancel' to 'Forfeit bonus', while still not adding any confirmation.

So, if I’m getting this correctly, your complaint is that the “Cancel” button should have been in red instead of grey and that after clicking it they should have asked for a confirmation before completely forfeiting the bonus and you also believe that their customer support is bad/unhelpful, right?
I agree that all of the above can be considered a bad user experience and you (as a user) have the right to complain about it. However, I’m not sure this can be considered a dark pattern because they are clearly not going to earn anything from it. They are giving this bonus for free and to random users, after all.
In any case, and as you said, there is no scam or scam attempt here, so not sure this thread fits best in this board. I might be wrong though.

i'm sorry, but how is "cancel" almost always used to close the popup? first time hearing that. "cancel" on anything bonus related, always meant you are canceling the bonus.
and i don't know how you could have the confused the cancel button for clossing the popup, when it had a clear X for closing it?

but i have to agree with you on not having a confirmation warning, if someone clicks forfeit by mistake, there is nothing they can do.

Again, this is just a dark UI pattern they were aware of. I design and develop interfaces for a living, and I can guarantee you that a 'cancel' button, especially in grey, is very commonly used to close modals. Destructive actions are very often red, and basically always require a confirmation (like they do in the bonus page, but not in the modal).

Also to answer the person above: this is the literal definition of a 'Dark UI pattern'. As for the section itself, I just think a trustworthy casino could have just aknowledge the honest mistake on my end, and the clear mistake on their end, and just reactivated the bonus. They didn't, I think that's worthy of being reported. If not, feel free to remove this thread, I got nothing else to add here.
