It actually makes much sense, if you consider how accesible and easy betting on sports has become in these times.
And my personal projection is obvious, it will continue to grow in the coming years, as this new generation of people are going to be accustomed to bet and have access to internet.

We are not longer in eras where one needed to get out one's way in order to bet and gamble. Now one can do it wherever and whenever we are.

The stat of $133b for betting is logical and well aligned, because without live betting options, individual sports fans won't watch live matches anymore. It is always fun to watch a live match mostly when it concerns your favorite league or club sides, after having placed a bet or about to bet, while the match kicks off and people even try to make out time just to be present for the matches, therefore amounting to more views from the public and more money for sportsbooks and tv channels that air these matches with sponsored ads from marketers and content creators alike.

Massive growth industry, I think we knew this even if the numbers were not known exactly.  Many things came out of the internet giving access and gambling is certainly one of them imo.
  I'm surprised its not a bigger number if it were truly describing a global business situation, thats alot of people in the market so it could be 10x that figure.  However it wont include all sorts of local and national situations, not all revenue is actually clearly recorded because of the legal and tax situation in many countries.  Some of the largest betting markets are where its illegal but locally operated with bribes given etc.

I wonder why sports video games are classified as gambling?  If all these statistics are so "accurate" then I would evaluate it with skepticism. However, I can easily believe the magnitude of these figures. Even if we round them up to 200 billion, does that mean every person in the world spends $5 on gambling? That's a paltry figure if it's an annual estimate. In rich countries, people spend orders of magnitude more on all sorts of nonsense.

As long as people continue to love sports, sports betting will always be relevant. Sports is a big part of many people's lives. They enjoy the experience and all the drama that comes with it. This is why people will always gable on it. There always be arguement about favourite and rival team, players, games and this would lead people to always gamble. And anything with this much following will always attract advertisers, marketers and sponsors. So the money will always be there.
I believe in the next five years, this figure will become even way bigger than this. More money will flow into more sports the more the sports become popular. There is so much money ins sports, especially the popular sports. There is a reason there are so many gambling companies these days, yet most are still profitable. This is also why there are so many big leagues that accept money from gambling platforms for sponsorship. These guys are making more money from football than the football clubs themselves. Imagine this, the entire teams infrastructure is smaller than the casino that you can bet on them.

So of course they take sponsorships, in tune of tens of millions of dollars, and could start asking for more in the future as well, if all teams get together, they could make that work. So it's normal that we are seeing more and more of bookies names on jerseys.

I knew sportsbetting played a huge role in the sports industry but after seeing the infographics, holy fok. I often see people say that betting ruined the beauty of sports. The amount of money generated by the betting industry is too big to ignore so that's why I think that whether people like it or not, sports betting will still be a key part of the sports ecosystem. While there will be that comes from the illegal, they might just be few from it. I think it has come at a point that most of the share comes from advertising and merch.

But as global changes are coming, we've seen that there's really a significant share from the sports betting world. It's a natural growth and not a bubble per se.

I just they think about what gambling will become in 10 years time. Imagine that huge amount on gambling within a year. Well, not really surprise as hardly can you find a household with no gambling individual. And this money will keep increasing as the percentage of gambler keep increasing on daily basis. The funniest thing is that only few are quitting. Gamblers hardly make profit but they hardly quit as well.

I don't think this is a good graphic at detailing what goes on in terms of betting because if you account for the total turnover of betting it's probably much larger of a number. The total turnover worldwide can be all the bets placed in total volume, won or lost. People usually tend to rollover their winnings so it's much larger. And there's also a lot of gambling that goes unreported because it's from unlicensed casinos.

Sadly there's no unified standard to count these statistics so to combine national statistics also doesn't prove very reliable. Maybe 133b is with licensed casinos but I believe the total number of revenue even to be much larger.

Yeah, but it's not gambling that became a lucrative business, it's providing a platform for gambers to gamble that have become a lucrative business, which in other words, you know it's a casino..

Building and launching an online casino this days have become a very lucrative business but on the other hand, it's not a type of business that one would venture into without having money first, you definitely need a lot of money for marketing, promos, bonuses to attract players, and you must keep this things, especially marketing, running until the casino gain enough users to turn into a profiting business.

Many casinos have come and gone showing that in as much as the industry now is very lucrative, it's not one one can venture into without first having money, you might end up struggling until you end up closing your casino out of frustration.

No, not at all that shocking, every country has its own national sports or other sports it supports, and every region there's a sporting event to be held, and of course, there are world events like Football and the Olympics, if there's one thing that unites countries or common denominator, it's sports, and expect to have sports betting when there is sports, here in our country sports betting is also huge, its a fast growing multi billion pesos industry with a gross gaming revenue of $3.9 billion.

Esport scene is dominated specially by betting partners, these sites make millions from addicting people who cant stop themselves

Well i am not sure where you got number 200 billion, when it's $133B. If you look at the picture, it's not about gambling, but about breaking down sports industry. And red section is about "gaming", not gambling.

Betting is just a huge chunk from whole sport industry sector in dollars, and personally i thought it would be way less compared to broadcast and commercializing, but then again i never really compared the numbers before. But it's not THAT surprising that i would use my time to double check the data, after all what i know from casino revenues, that's an insanely profitable sector.

Yes, you're right, I wasn't paying enough attention. But my thesis still stands. And it turns out that the average figures are even more meager, not 5, but say 2-3 dollars.
As for the weights of these sectors, there is nothing surprising. It seems logical to me that if a sports fan is not prepared to spend more than 3-5 dollars a year on bets, then he will certainly not spend money on paid broadcasts, which cost significantly more.
