Apologizing for bumping this very old post. Yeah, I saw that 120 days warning message. Actually, I bumped into this post while searching for another one.

Long story short I saw a banned user, went to his profile, hovered my mouse cursor around the banned message (I use BPIP extension), and it said "Autoban on xx/xx/xx date).

So what's an "Autoban" anyway?
I know there is this "Normal Ban" (afaik, it's called nuking an user) that Mods manually apply.
And there is this "Self Ban" that can be triggered by secret questions.
But what's this 3rd one? And what's the requirement for triggering this?
In OP's posts, there is also mentions of "Autoban", but unfortunately no details.

I'm not sure. Are you saying that the plagiarism report has not been checked by any moderator? The user is banned for plagiarism. The system does not detect plagiarism on its own.

I'm not sure. Are you saying that the plagiarism report has not been checked by any moderator? The user is banned for plagiarism. The system does not detect plagiarism on its own.

Yes, I was referring to this user. I saw him posting in my local section a few days ago and all of a sudden he got banned. I got curious, went to his profile and I saw that term.

And, as per your plagiarism report, I guess Xal0lex banned him as he is the one who merited your post. Then I wonder why it says "Autoban" instead of something else like nuke!?

I also checked some of the users that were reported there. Some users have "Nuke User", while others have "Autoban User" message. I again wonder how are they different?

I think the system has an automatic way of detecting obvious plagiarism. It could be by flagging identical posts repeated many times in the forum or across different accounts.
However, the system might not ban directly, it could trigger a warning and when a mod gets to the warning, they will check and trigger a ban and that will be called an Autoban.

I am not so sure about this but I remember that I have joined this kind of conversation in the past. It will be nice if a mod can clarify things here.

In the first case, all posts are deleted from the account, the second is blocked only because of plagiarism, or because of the spread of the virus, as a rule. And the posts are deleted only those that received a report.

Show me the place where it says that the system can automatically detect plagiarism. It was in 2019, after a single terrible bot was launched. I don't think that's what you're talking about right now.

Why did you assume that I was the one who banned that user? Is it because I gave merit to that post? 🙂 No, you're mistaken—I don't have that authority.

"Nuke user" is a type of permanent ban in which, in addition to the ban itself, all of the user's threads and posts are also deleted. It is performed manually and can be carried out by any staff member.

"Autoban user" refers to a situation where a user is banned, but all of their posts and threads are preserved. This type of ban can be either permanent or temporary. It is available only to global moderators and administrators and is also performed manually.

I am convinced that Zoomic mean to emphasize on the insight of what the auto ban could actually mean according to Op's curiosity and what prompts the activities for users to get banned without interference of other community users in the forum such as following immediate report actions on defaulters
But it's unfortunate that this system is unreliable to be truly existing and because there hadn't been such claimed technology proven where users gets banned over without being properly accessed and Justified according to commitments and offense.
In the era of today's, banning takes place only when users commitments is suspicious and follows by the impact of Mods and Admins for the users profile to be reviewed for justice to her served.
Of course this is a handful or manual activities while I doubt if there's a bot to take such action without the need of the  communities obligations.
