Are we getting a permanent update for Current theme setting.

The forum added a green theme for today (01-04-2026), which got me thinking:

if the forum can give us a green theme for a special event, why not just provide a dark theme as well? It would be great so we don't have to rely on third-party extensions and userscripts.

I noticed a "Current theme" option has been added to the Look and Layout preferences page, but it is currently disabled. I’m not sure if that’s always been there, but it’s the first time I’ve noticed it.



Should we be expecting a permanent update that includes multiple theme options under the Current theme setting?

I doubt that but I may be wrong, we can only guess. But if changing theme is added to this forum in a way that users can change it manually, it will really be good. There are even different dark mode that can be added.

But if there is no changes, we move on and continue enjoying the forum.

I'm  still using the userscript  from mcdouglasx, can't find the post at the moment.

The dark mode enabled on my main browser doesn't really work for the forum, it only adds a dark theme to the browser itself and not  the forum when i visit. I have another browser with a theme that  works on the forum, but it isn’t very good and kinda sucks for my look view. I’m not sure if any browser can perfectly theme this forum, but I know there could still be some which  can probably get pretty close to looking perfect.

Chrome, Via, the two Aloha browsers, PHX, UC browser all have the dark mode. After Android 10 or 11, those browsers were able to make users use the black mode on their browsers. Although, I have forgotten the Android version.

For Chrome, you will have to force it. Go to setting -> appearance -> and select dark mode. Type chrome://flags on the address bar, and search for 'darken websites' and enable it. Relaunch the browser and Bitcointalk will be in dark mode.

For other browsers that I mentioned, it is automatically set or you can find it in the browser settings.

Well,  there was when I clamoured for dark mode. But as it stands now, I don't think that I need any other thing apart from what we used to have. This green forum has made me realized that what we had was the best and we are all used to eat. I have been teary because of the green theme.

I browse the internet with dark mode, in every website in exception and bitcoin talk. BTT is the only site I don't use with dark mode and I am perfectly okay with it.

I downloaded an extension Vod made recently and it has a super nice and customizable theme editor, among other uses/functions. You can give it a look and see how you like it perhaps if they don't make any theme customizing changes after today.

I only have Chrome on my mobile out of those browsers you listed, but I don't use it. I don't even have it on my PC,  I use Chromium and Firefox as primary instead.

On my mobile device, which I mostly use for accessing the forum, I use Firefox Nightly so I can get some extensions and use userscripts as a mobile user.

I already tested it and It worked, but it still has some little odd parts, although cool.
It won't really work for the stuff I wrote above in the first place. Even if it does, I still won't use Chrome for most of my internet browsing.

The green theme isn't  really that bad.
The problem  is that most people aren't used to websit having green theme but if this should actually stay permanent,  I'm sure our eyes will adapt over time too. 
For now, it still hurts and  I  had to turn my script back on.

But I think green is not bad. The bluish theme is now familiar, but the green one is easier on the eyes for long-term use. They could add an option for one to choose a theme of their liking, including the much-needed dark one.

in the old blue scheme internal bitcointalk links were green and offsite links were blue. that is very nice.

so if green stays that needs fixing so there is a way to distinguish internal vs external links again.

I don't like the green theme because it reminds me of the dollar but if I am asked to participate in creating a theme for the forum, I am ready, whether through a Chrome extension or separate theme code.

I don't think the purpose of the green theme was to be liked, it was to get everyone attention, make it a memorable days like other April fool. I'm not sure if some people visited the forum as guest mode, the default theme was displaying the old theme throughout yesterday, the green theme only activated when you login to the forum but some people were dramatic yesterday, I find it hard to read yesterday due to my eyes, but managed.

Now, it looks like it never even happened.

I wanted to create a similar thread but OP was faster. I have seen a lot of suggested code by many members in the forum, the many threads powerglove wrote for the forum, only one was hand picked and was rolled out, the 2FA security, the rest were discarded.

Based on on my observations, the forum administrator appreciate all the suggestions, but don't think he is too busy when it comes to forum set up and other update, I feel he and others preferred to have a light forum over aesthetic. If they really want all the suggested code to be deploy, he can will do it but he doesn't want to.

Good catch. I didn't even notice the "(change)" from my screenshot which is also a link, it really need fixing trully.

Yes, the option for the Current Theme is there, but it gives a "disabled 45" error when you click on "change".

I know he's around, but as I said above, he said he wouldn't be working on forum-related stuff anymore. I also found the post where he said this. Here:

Sadly, theymos and I recently decided that we're too out-of-phase to be working on the same project. There's a chance that, at some point in the future, we'll find enough common ground to be able to work together, but, for now, everyone should consider me to be "retired until further notice".

(I will still try to add some value here and there, when I can, in my capacity as a volunteer. But, realistically, people should expect me to become more and more distant as I slowly invest my energy into other things.)

I would like to see options to choose themes in bitcointalk, but there is no way theymos would keep that April's green theme.
One easy workaround is to use BPIP extension and as optional bonus you are getting several themes to choose, and they work very good.
I would recommend checking this out and maybe you like it.

Of course I know that, I was just joking. Green is a beautiful and beloved color and it is not fair to associate it with the dollar, but it was just a joke to express the contradiction between the idea of ​​the dollar and the idea of ​​Bitcoin.

I don't think adaptation will work here. The eyes are fragile and it's better to avoid things that causes discomfort rather than continually dwell in them. I'm in support with KingsDen, after that experience I'm sticking with the forum default theme always and also the theme for the April 1st fun on black theme was even more difficult, and I'm often using dark themes since I'm somehow sensitive to light.
