But still if you gonna hold your bitcoin long enough Im recommend to buy hardware wallet like ledger, trezor or personally Im using safepal. and tbh hardware wallet isnt that expensive. Its long term investment 60 usd for ledger nano x give u security, why not right

I used to think ledger wallet was very expensive and was meant for holders with much more tangible amount of bitcoin in their possession. Maybe I have been lazy to do my research. I had to do a recheck and to my surprise they are even cheaper ones on eBay that goes for as low as $40. For long term hold it's safer on a hardware wallet no online contact, everything remains offline safe guarding our private keys from potential hackers.

Hello everyone.. I'm new here and I've been observing for a while now. I'm not new to crypto, but I've never own any Bitcoin. So I'm really curious on what wallet to use.
I've seen a lot of posts concerning hardware wallet because of how secure they are but truthfully it's quite expensive comparing with where I come from, nevertheless it is still part of my choice list. There are also mobile wallets and software wallets to consider.
When I first got into crypto, I used trust wallet to store my coins, Ethereum especially. But now it seems like the Trust in their name is long gone. That is why I am asking from the members of this forum, which wallet will you recommend for for a beginner just starting in Bitcoin. If possible a wallet that is not an exchange that can also store other cryptocurrencies..
Thank you all.

If you want to use a wallet then you can use Electrum Wallet. And you can use Ledger wallet, Trezor wallet, Sefpal wallet, all of these are the best and safest among the software. But I have used Electrum Wallet, it is quite safe and suitable for storing Bitcoin. This Electrum wallet is the best for keeping Bitcoin for a long time, but you should refrain from holding unique coins.
If you hold it as a holding then of course Bitcoin will be the best, it will be better to refrain from holding unique coins.

Hello newbie, the majority of users here have already recommended the Electrum wallet to you. I am not here to give you more recommendations or to counter what has been suggested. I just want to give you a few tips on how to handle your wallet and, most importantly, your seed phrase when you eventually start buying and accumulating bitcoins.

Firstly, you need to understand that there is no perfect wallet anywhere. It is how you handle the wallet and the seed phrase entrusted to you that largely determines the safety of your bitcoins. As a newbie, you will likely start with a hot wallet, which should hold only a small amount of bitcoin intended for frequent use. If you accumulate more bitcoins and decide to save for the long term, you should later move to an offline wallet.

Use a non-custodial wallet, where you alone control the keys. In custodial wallets, companies control your keys for you. Remember this: if you do not hold your keys yourself, you are not the real owner of the bitcoins you claim to own. Be careful so you don't labour in vain.

It seems a lot of wallets have been suggested by forum users. Each wallet has different features and advantages; you have to choose based on your needs. But I will always prefer a hardware wallet, either as a new or old user. It's most important to secure your funds, never mind if you are new to crypto or used to crypto. Try to buy a hardware wallet if you can afford to; otherwise, a non-custodial wallet like Electrum.

Remember, it's more important to secure your seed phrase. If you can't secure your seed phrase, then your funds aren't secure. You can find a lot of stories where people lost funds due to losing the seed phrase. However, I will still prefer to purchase a hardware wallet.

Thank you all.
Since you are not new to crypto as you said, I believe you will know the different between centralized exchanges and decentralized wallets. Trust wallet is decentralized but it is a closed-source wallet that’s why it is not mostly recommended here in this forum, we recommend open-source wallet for better security, and Electrum wallet is the wallet that is mostly recommended here in this forum, but you can use mobile wallet like electron on mobile or BlueWallet; these wallets are good and are recommendable for new users because they are user friendly and have good features.

Trust wallet is decentralized
Trustwallet is non-custodial.
We usually use the terms "custodial" and "non-custodial" for comparing wallets, not the terms "centralized" and "decentralized".
If the wallet gives you access to your private keys, it's non-custodial and if it doesn't, it's custodial.

Exactly 💯,

The forum is filled with so many knowledge and users too that are actively ready to teach and educate others. Since I came across this community I have learnt so many things that involves Bitcoin and also general knowledge at all but everything in the end boils down to whether you actually want to learn or not.

You can use electrum wallet for Bitcoin only and there's also exodus wallet which is also self-custody.
I was introduced to electrum wallet as my first bitcoin wallet and right from then it has been my only hot wallet for my bitcoin storage.

It is secured, and friendly and simple for newbies to set-up and use.  Exploration into other options like the Exodus wallet to have a user experience has not been what I have conceived but I read is a top bitcoin wallet just as electrum.

You can use Electrum for your Hotwallet or even with the use of the Hardware wallet and an Electrum if you wanted to store your bitcoin. Now regards for the other coins supported and you want to have a hardware wallet I do recommend to have a Trezor wallet but this you need to consider base on the model because not all Trezor wallets support all of the coins you wanted most of them you can see in the supported coins. Beside with the Trezor is the Ledger but previous tons of problems with this based on the thread ive seen.

It's not.
As already said in this thread, Exodus is close source while electrum is open source. Please read previous posts before making a new reply.

You can use Electrum for your Hotwallet or even with the use of the Hardware wallet and an Electrum if you wanted to store your bitcoin.
It may be worth mentioning that if the purpose is to have a cold storage, you can still use electrum without any need to a hardware wallet.

Electrum wallet is an example that what matters is your private keys, not how your wallet looks, there are many shinny wallet in crypto space that are not so great like Electrum wallet, I found the interface funny too but I chose peace over problem.

Electrum wallet will give peace of mind for any newbies, there is no point looking anything better like I did in the past, I found Electrum wallet and the looks make me hate it, I then found trust wallet but later I detect that Electrum is fully open source and trust wallet isn't.

Ledger hardware wallet isn't recommendable, they are also not open source, Trezor is marginally better than Ledger wallet, let's try as much as possible to only recommend fully open source wallet, many beginners can't even tell a difference..

Electrum is a very good wallet and maximum people will recommend this wallet to you who are investing and holding Bitcoin for a long time. So this wallet will be the best among the software. But if you find it difficult to use then you can use any non-custodial wallet where there will be a private key and through that you will access your wallet and there your funds will be completely under your own control. In this case you can also use wallets like Trust Wallet. But these are only for small amounts when you hold a large amount of crypto then you should definitely use a secure wallet like Electrum wallet and if necessary you should shift to a hardware wallet

The best wallet for a beginner is Electrum. It is trivial, without skipping important terminology to make things "simpler", like coin control. It is also one of the most thoroughly reviewed, and of course, open-source. It is absolutely a good start for learning the bitcoin environment.

If you're a newbie, you should absolutely stay away from closed-source garbage like Trust Wallet and Exodus.

Not Your Keys, Not Your Bitcoin

I used to think ledger wallet was very expensive and was meant for holders with much more tangible amount of bitcoin in their possession. Maybe I have been lazy to do my research. I had to do a recheck and to my surprise they are even cheaper ones on eBay that goes for as low as $40. For long term hold it's safer on a hardware wallet no online contact, everything remains offline safe guarding our private keys from potential hackers.

I will like to draw your attention to ebay, hardware sellers are third party stores that buy and resale for profit or sale refurbished devices, you will likely get a device that has been comprised, don't buy from them. You can see from the ledger website, the cheapest hardware wallets is higher than the amount you mentioned as $40, that's a wallet that has been reconfigure or used by another person.

Buy from Amazon instead, they have ledger distributors over there, I haven't seen official on ebay. By the way, don't buy Ledger wallet, buy Trezor for your own good.

The 4 wallets you mentioned are better for cold storage but if you are going to use an electrrum wallet for long term, use it as an airgap wallet in a computer where there is no internet and Bluetooth connection, that's the only way your private keys don't get exposed without the internet. The day it get connected to the internet, the wallet isn't longer an airgap wallet but a hot wallet.

There are different kinds of wallet in cryptocurrency, some are bitcoin only supported wallet, while we have some to be only recommended for both bitcoin and other altcoins, also, there is more needs that we should try as possible to ensure that we understand the difference between a custodial and non custodial bitcoin wallet, this is also important as to serve the purpose of using the required wallet as being a newbie or an experienced user.

Wallets must provide users a good tool to generate Bitcoin private keys properly as it is vital to keep bitcoin of users safely in wallets. Wallets don't need to have fancy UI for fun, as it can derail user attention on more important things during their time of using a wallet for receiving, sending bitcoin or backups and other things.

Electrum is a SPV wallet, that is light and simple in graphics to see and use. It's a good wallet, and it does not have any fancy graphics at all.

Ledger hardware wallet isn't recommendable, they are also not open source
Ledger wallet firstly is close source and it's its minus point.
It also has bad reputation from data breaches and bad product like Ledger Recover.

Your  post is misleading and they are not hard to understand through learning.

How can you suggest  to just use any custodial wallet to someone who's asking such question as a beginner?  It doesn't  matter small or big amount make sure to use a reputable open source  wallet ,  not just random  non custodial wallet  that gives you a seed  phrase or private key. I can decide to.create a  non-custodial wallet that  will you  a seed phrase and addresses  I have access to , does that changes the fact that it's  a self-self-custody wallet to you?

Apart from choosing a wallet, setting up a cold storage is always  a better option to secure your wallet. .

Getting a Bitcoin now is very expensive for you, as you said you can't afford the hardware wallets, which shows that you do not have enough funds. So your demand is to know about the wallets that support multiple currencies. There are many you can use, and one user suggested Exodus, which I would also recommend as it supports over 130 currencies. If you can do a little more research, then you can easily find the best option for you. Also, in the future, if you can acquire a btc, then try the Electrum wallet for yourself.
Because BTC is very expensive to get, you need to use good wallet to hodl your BTC to have rest of mind whenever you are hodling BTC for long years. The one you mentioned is a good wallet and it can hodl any amount of BTC but you need to keep the seeds phrase safe, because once scammers get access to your seeds phrase you are not only one that is controlling the BTC in that particular wallet. If your wish is to hodl only BTC, I will advise you to use Electrum wallet, because it will make your hodling comfortable for you to achieve your goal.

To add BTC and altcoins, I will advise you to use trust wallet, because it will allow you to hodl BTC and altcoins for long years if you wish and their teams are very active to make sure their customers enjoy good service from Trust wallet.
