Bitcoin is really a good investment. But aside from bitcoin, what cryptocurrencies one must have at this season? The goal is for keeping it/them for a long period of time and the profit when the time is rigquot

I guess when we consider to recommend any coin with the potential of long term values for investment, we should be prioritizing our choice making based on the reputability of the coins.
Since bitcoin had been the first existed, most dominance, most crypto currency that had proved its potential as long term assets since the 17 years now it was launched, it's also good to consider all these data's to the Alt Coins when you've to diversify your crypto asset investment.
Therefore, considering all being said, the Ethereum coin will be better in my own opinion because it has also proved its long term potential value after bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a big dog to which "fundamental" altcoins are tied with ropes. Where Bitcoin goes, the "fundamental" altcoins will follow.

There are also shitcoins that wander on their own, but often also "chase" Bitcoin.

But while Bitcoin gets its hair combed, "fundamental" altcoins often get theirs cut short. Ethereum, for example.

And shitcoins are sometimes completely shaved off.

I don’t think it’s safe to invest in any altcoins with the aim of keeping it for too long hoping to make profit off it. Most of this altcoins are just pump and dump tokens with no real value or potential, they vanish anytime. The best you could do is to get them while it’s still hot and don’t keep too long before selling. Bitcoin for me is the only cryptocurrency I feel more confident enough to buy and keep for long because it have proven to be one of the most valuable asset in the crypto space such that even if it goes down at some point in time, it still have the potential to improve and increase its price and reach new all time highs.
Most of us that have been in the crypto market for sometime are very skeptical about investing in any other cryptocurrency than Bitcoin because of our unfavorable experiences, many altcoins don't have potentials to recover after they dump unlike Bitcoin that we are confident that it will always recover after every dip. As far as cryptocurrency goes if you want peace of mind where you don't have to be monitoring the market always to know if your coins can ever be bullish and reach ATH then hold only Bitcoin.

However I cannot write-off all the whole altcoins that they are all shitcoins, there are a few that have use cases like Ethereum, BNB and very few others, you can choose to hold them although they they don't have the potentials and market cap like Bitcoin. But for many altcoin projects in the crypto market I wouldn't go near them except I want to gamble my funds, if you must buy altcoins make sure that it is with amount that is insignificant to you.

I realize that it may not be  easy for a lot of people to make a decision regards to this, but the reality is simple; you never know which altcoin will pump the next. If we knew this then we would all be buying the same thing right now, but that doesn't mean that we are going to get the same thing, it is not going to work like that.

We should be aware that this is not how it works and for that reason we should be waiting for this to happen a while later. I get that it may not be easy but we can make sure that we are investing into trustworthy old school coins instead of investing into some shitcoin and that way we could at least make sure that we are protecting our bottom line and not lose that much money.

You have to reset yourself so that you don't regret if you follow other people's advice if you do that, what we say you have to test and find out more so that you can get the reason why you buy, not just hear advice and buy.
Your Bitcoin should be the dominant asset in your crypto investment, besides that for me the top 10 CMC is also interesting like BNB or Sol to accumulate slowly, but here it is not a must-have but an alternative choice that you can use to prepare for the next bullish phase, you must be responsible for your own choices.
There are many ways to anticipate risk with a simpler allocation amount for altcoins in low and medium capitalization and also the largest capitalization.

For me the main rule of dealing with altcoins now is to avoid everything with active VC and angel vestings. Especially if the vesting is to continue for a year or more.
Almost all 2024/25 TGEs got completely massacred and still have 2-3 years of vesting so those are by far the worst choices.

Bitcoin has proven his worth so many times by bouncing back strongly from every dip. This is why people are not afraid of Bitcoin dips but they take advantage of every dip and buy as much Bitcoin as they can. This is not the case with alts, specially the newly launched alts because majority of new alts were either scam or are abandoned by there founders after generating necessary funds. Having said that there are few alts that we can focus on like Eth, BNB or top 20 alts listed on CMC.

There is no better investment platform than Bitcoin when we consider investing in cryptocurrencies, but if we consider altcoins other than Bitcoin, then some altcoins can be added that can give investors good profits in long-term investment. Although there is no way to guarantee this, if one has a use case for all the coins that have maintained trust in the market for a long time, one should invest in those coins. In my opinion, investing in Ethereum is more logical. Investing in BNB and Solana coin also has a high possibility of getting good returns in the long term. There are also some coins that can give good returns, but it is difficult to guarantee this if you invest in altcoins.

If you want to go with bitcoin, please go with bitcoin. Only bitcoin is okay for you. If bitcoin is on the negative radar,  other coins will follow. So, I don't also see that as a diversification method because if BTC rises, altcoins will also rise, vice versa.

If it is for long term, bitcoin is okay but if you insist of alternative, ETH and BNB are good options. I don't need to mention many for you, but you can just check around. Try and believe BTC, it will not fail you. The price will drop, but it will surely return you to profit, no matter how long.

I wanted to start by saying, don't buy low-cap coins like Rave coin, buy whatever you want, because of recent developments. You need to buy large-cap coins for investment; you shouldn't risk the money you've saved and worked so hard for. Investing in Bitcoin and a few altcoins you truly believe in is the best option. Other options are completely useless they might be good in the short term, but you need to think long-term.

If your goal OP is to invest for the long term, then there shouldn’t be asides Bitcoin, I wouldn’t advise you to keep Bitcoin aside or try to take it out of the equation because that’s in fact the best answer and option you’ll find with such goals. Another coin I’d have suggested was Ethereum but I can’t really guarantee it. Although it’s another great project and that’s why it’s next to Bitcoin. But my advice is go for Bitcoin and you won’t regret it.

No one knows which altcoins to hold right now. Most altcoins follow Bitcoin’s price movements, where Bitcoin rises altcoins tend to rise tool. And when Bitcoin falls altcoins fall too or even sometimes quite sharply. The sheer number of altcoins makes the choices more numerous and even harder to analyze which ones could be profitable. And the cake to be shared becomes smaller and even smaller relative to the number of altcoins making it very difficult for altcoins to rise. On the other hand manipulation is also common with some altcoins. Pump-and-dump schemes frequently occur in the altcoin space. You need to conduct extensive research on the altcoins you intend to buy. And you cannot rely on altcoins for the long term as we can see that most altcoins are not suitable for long-term holding. So I personally recommend that you simply buy a significant amount of Bitcoin within your portfolio allocation.

The reason why most people would advice investing in bitcoin over altcoins even though some of those altcoins are doing well is simply because no other coin is as structured and trustworthy as bitcoin, especially those that prove to be completely centralized like BNB. We’ve heard of strong projects and CEXs that many believed would most likely be around forever collapse with people’s funds in it, even some projects that have been around and gained investors’ trust dumped leaving investors holding the bag. This happens all the time but never with Bitcoin.

Even low cap coins might sometimes give extremely good profits but the risk involved here is pretty high. I don't think OP is ready to take that risk as he has originally quoted to invest only for long term which will eradicate risk. Usually people running behind quick profits would look for short term to mid term holdings as they can make some quick profits there but things usually don't go their way. OP has a stable mind where he has prepared himself to invest only for long term so I would say OP has already won half of the battle here. Now, OP need to have a stable mind so he doesn't deviate from his implications.

Low cap coins are usually manipulated by the market which makes it hard for new people to make any profits but if they can spend some time learning how the markets are manipulated, maybe they can make profits out of it by exiting the markets at the right time. But I think this is not meant for OP.

If you are looking for the best investment in the crypto industry, it is Bitcoin and after Bitcoin, it is still Bitcoin. No other altcoin is really as reliable as Bitcoin, especially for the long term. However, if you want to gamble in the crypto industry, that is when people start considering altcoins. As a newbie, I would never advise you to put even a small amount of money into altcoins, because they can easily frustrate you and make you give up even on Bitcoin. This can cause you to lose trust altogether. For now, if you can focus on Bitcoin and continue to invest over a long period, and you are able to build a tangible accumulation, you may likely make profits. Alternatively, you can hold for the long term and sell at the right time, especially during a bull run. Also, understand that long term should not mean just two years, but at least four to ten years. This way, you may experience two bull runs or more.

Lol, this is true but we are in altcoin discussion. If we were not, I would say that there is literally no other coin that is as best as bitcoin and if you really want to buy something then everyone should buy bitcoin.

But the idea that we are already in altcoin discussion means that OP and others do not want to hear that, and understand that there are people who would like to invest only in bitcoin like us, but they do not want to do that and want some altcoins instead of that and take a risk.

It is true that not all altcoins are bad but you may not be aware when the altcoin you are holding is losing value which can put you in severe loses if the altcoins you have bought are not adding any extra value to what you have invested.
Investment needs appreciation and when people are not seeing any appreciation, this means the investment is not getting the value it supposed to get to shoot the price up. Hype is what could be responsible for a good project not to be getting the kind of attention it supposed to be having to boast the price and attract investors.

Bitcoin is really a good investment. But aside from bitcoin, what cryptocurrencies one must have at this season? The goal is for keeping it/them for a long period of time and the profit when the time is right.

During this period of uncertainty, I'd buy Bitcoin and Gold. Particularly, tokenized Gold. Tether and Paxos each have their own tokenized gold. Personally, I like Paxos Gold because of its stricter regulatory-compliance.

With altcoins having a very bad time, I'd steer away from them as much as possible. They're simply not worth the long-term investment. You'd only buy them if you're hoping to make a "buck" within the short-term. But not everyone knows how to use volatility in their favor. I'd suggest you do your own research to help determine what works best for you. Good luck.

Bitcoin is quintessential if your looking for a really
solid one but I think ETH is also essential in this types
of discussions. Just as the others has expressed in
earlier and recent posts, we are in the alt coins area
of discussion I would consider doge and XRP. Plenty
of potentials with other cryptocurrencies right now
in the market but these two have been making some
sleek waves on their own in the past months.

OP will need access to really large funds in order to make profits just by holding bitcoins. It is almost impossible for common man to purchase an entire bitcoin which affects the profits as well. Percentage wise, the growth would look good but if the same money is distributed evenly in other altcoins as well, OP can make really good profits both percentage wise and amount wise. Sometimes, altcoins skyrocket if any sudden news emerges and I don't think OP wants to miss this opportunity which is the reason why he started this thread to look for other opportunities.

I think OP should invest a very small portion of the total amount in newly launched ICO's as the profit percentage there is pretty high. Risk remains constant which is the reason why only a minimum portion of the entire amount should be invested there.
