Both winning & losing big time can blur our minds and make us do things we normally wouldn't do... The thing is, it can be pretty hard to stay grounded & keep control after some nice win. When we are losing, it's hard to stop chasing, and in both cases, it can be generally hard to stop and call it a night...

But we all live & learn... smart ones from the first mistake, while most of us need to make a few (or a lot) mistakes before we finally get it...

It will be very rare that the first win from gambling immediately stops completely, there are no gamblers like that. They have high delusions after the first win becomes a trap in their mindset, thinking that playing gambling is easy, so by depositing and playing more, winning will feel easy.

They will realize after losing a lot of money, there is no strategy that can guarantee long-term victory, don't think gambling is easy, it's easy to play but you lose more than win.

I want to share something in my mind and i think many people will relate to it. So many peoples think losing is what traps gamblers. But i think sometimes it is the opposite.

It is the first big win.

I think you hit the nerve there and you're also correct on that one. Well, I probably read another topic about that in here and yeah it's probably the huge trap to get you thinking you could win more in the gambling world and I'm talking as well from experience. Well, the thing is, it's the reason I'm probably still here trying my luck even on some lotto picks or those high odds but the only thing that probably differs is that I definitely lower my stake in it and high stakes to those low odds. It's more like risk management from here on out if the first win was a trap.

In fact, whatever you experience when you first gamble can be a trap if you don't have the right mindset about gambling, that gambling is not a way to make money and in gambling it is not only about winning but also losing, even if you dare to gamble then the first thing that must be in your mind is losing money, so you have to play with money you can afford to lose.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I actually agree on what you've said. Not all people are aware that once they've won it stimulates their brain which results of wanting to win more and you will keep looking for it and that's when losing starts since the more you play, the more you would likely to lose and once you lose, you'll trying to win back your losses, so it's really an endless loop and it's a good thing that you've pointed that out since some players were not aware that it's happening to them already. That's why if you win, and you don't want to lose, might at least secure around 70%-80% of your bankroll and play with the remaining so if you lose, at least you secured your profit.

There are some people that first gamble and lost and still continue to gamble, but it is true that if someone gamble and win, the person will think gambling is easy. Another one is someone that is losing and looking for strategies to win. The person will later find martingale and other strategies. I have seen people that said the strategies are working but later changed and said they have lost huge amount of money to gambling. But those that got addicted to gambling later might win or lost when they first gamble. What that affected them into gambling addiction and wasting of money to gambling is their gambling mindset.

I know someone who won a huge sum one of the first few times they played, but we are talking about a win that would have allowed them to stop working altogether. You have just said it all, overconfidence often trapped them in the act of becoming greedy towards the game, which will make them to keep gambling, even when they are losing in a streak. Which they forget to acknowledge that luck is not controlled by anyone, but comes randomly, which gamblers has to accept it whether they like it or not. So having that mindset towards gambling won't give them that confidence of continuing gambling. Which they have to walk away or gamble responsibly.

I do agree with you OP that the first win sets the tone on the experience of the gambler.

Whenever you experience a win, the initial reaction would be to try again and check if you can repeat the same outcome. This is exactly the reason on why majority of lottery winners end-up being broke after a few years since they aggressively try to replicate this experience by betting more in the process.

I was fortunate (and unfortunate) enough to have an unlucky streak when I was first introduced in gambling. Given my unlucky streak, this prompted me to stop and consider myself as a person who is not really suited for gambling.

I agree with the point of view you have when comes to the effect of the first winning on one's overall further gambling experience.
Though, I believe it does not necessarily needs to be the first win, it would happen at other stage of one's gambling experience, in which we decide to further engage in gambling or not, because we experienced a very bad loss or a very high win.

When someone tries Weed for the first time the experience can go both ways i mean 50 50 chances of smoking again . Because some peoples feel relaxed and happy and they keep going back to it. I remember when I started gambling I was making 2x - 3x returns easily on a single bet.
This gave me a false illusion that gambling is easy money. I never imagined we could double our money in just a few seconds.
