He's probably unable to make posts or send PMs or anything like that, so maybe he has been banned from doing these things and the systems don't detect such bans, maybe. His last post was on December, 2021, so if he wasn't banned, he would have been making posts without any problems and this thread wouldn't be created.

He also received some merits on February, 2026, which makes me wonder why we are allowed to send merits to banned users. I think if a user is banned, when we are sending them merits, the merit sending page should at least show us a warning that the user is banned even if we are allowed to send merits to them. I tried this with a few banned users from the modlog, and there is no warning or anything.

Where exactly is the "permanent" label mentioned? The default ban message from some of the appeals I've read usually just says something like:

Sorry Vlad2Vlad, you are banned from posting or sending personal messages on this forum.
You have been banned by a forum moderator. You may appeal here: banappeals-w6pquw43@theymos.e4ward.com

If it's really written in the ban message, it's like the admin is too fed up with you. Petitions from gangs are unlikely to be considered.

The account still has a signature that means it was not banned permanently. There is also no text in the signature states that the account was banned with signature in any temporary period.

I think more about a security lock on this account.

If you are permanently banned, BPIP would show your account as Archived.

In addition, I agree that if your account was banned either temporary or permanent, you are allowed to log in your account, just not allowed to post or send PM.
Your ban is not shown as Autoban on BPIP.

No Archive status + No Autoban on BPIP, I think more about account lock by security reason.

There are 2 types of bans.

Autobans. Isn't what it sounds like, it means someone pressed the ban button, but it's automatically carried out, as opposed to be manually entered. Though there is a mod or two running scripts because of the spammers. This results in the message You were banned by a forum moderator, email xxx. Both global mods and admins use this, so it isn't a guarantee it was a moderator, just more likely. I use autoban instead of manual bans for permanent bans because it's faster and more efficient. All bans in the modlog are autobans, and permanent.  

Autobans ban the account involved only, you can still log in and do everything normally, just can't post or pm. It also adds units of evil to the IPs used, a new account created using these IPs will need to pay a fee. Units of evil increase with additional bans. Nuking is essentially an autoban+deletion of posts.

Manual bans are only available to admins, and are generally configured the same way as above, though it's possible to increase the scope of the ban to include things like registering from certain emails/providers, ips, subnets, hostnames, etc. Can also add multiple accounts to the same ban. It's also possible to prevent banned users from logging in at all using the banned account, this will prevent them from being able to read the forum and access pm's too though, so I rarely use it. These result in the customized reason for the ban+duration, insubstantial posts or whatever.

New accounts do not face any automatic restrictions beyond units of evil, a human needs to verify it. IPs alone are generally not conclusive evidence.

Merit is for posts, not for users. If the post is deleted, you can no longer Merit it. If the user is banned, and the post is still there, there's no reason to restrict it from receiving Merit.

It makes more sense if it's "locked for security", as "normal" permanent banned mean you lose your signature. Unless there's a new type of ban I don't know about.

In the span of ~20 minutes i had hundreds of posts deleted, all
my ~7 accounts on bitcointalk banned permanently, and i was also banned for life from twitter and youtube.  I used to be a bad rule breaking type of person.

Which 7 accounts? What makes you think we want you back? Even in this topic you're breaking rule #32 many times already.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any evidence as to whether or not the account has always been under control of the same individual?  It seems to have suffered lost password problems unusually often, all starting after the introduction of the merit system.  FWIW—I do NOT like the forum culture of rampant speculation about this kind of thing; but this is sufficiently odd to warrant a closer look.

Hello nullius, without thinking that I'm defending him - which I'm not - I don't think the account changed hands and I'll explain why. As far as I saw in the Romanian board, where he occasionally posts, he has a bad grammar. From what I understood from his posts he is living in US for many years and he forgot his own language. Despite this sound ridiculous, sometimes it happens. Nevertheless, I've seen people (Romanians) which after spending a month in Italy, when they came back home there were saying "come si dice [...]? lol. So some try to look smart (without realizing they look like imbeciles) and some really forget their own language (which is also a bad thing).

But this guy always wrote in the same bad Romanian when he posted on the Romanian board. If he would suddenly write correctly after a password change, I could have noticed that. I could have noticed also if his grammar became even worst than usual, after a password change. So thinking just from the point of view of his grammar (in Romanian) it doesn't seems that the account changed hands.

But since the post of nullius, the account had more "password reset via email" attempts, and I don't know what happened.

I did not know that forum has automatic security lock on an account after it hits many "password reset via email" like with this account. Never read any report about that security lock but because the account was not banned (signature still shows), I only can think of security lock.

You can wait for admin or global moderator to reply about your case.

I'm here to vouch for Vlad2Vlad, and to say this is indeed the real Vlad2Vlad.

Most of you kids don't know any better and that's fine. But Vlad was an early altcoin supporter - IXC was the 3rd altcoin ever - and he is also known as creator of the world's first "Shit Coin", in 2013. That matters to me, because if he didn't, I would have been #1.

Anyway.

For the longest time I never really understood him, and I still don't, but with so many Fake OGs out there, the forum could use a real OG back, and that is Vlad.
