You're right that because of smartphones, many things have almost disappeared that used to exist before. The reason is smartphones themselves. In the past, people had separate devices like a timer watch, an alarm clock, a calendar, a map, a music player, and a radio etc. Although hardly anyone listens to the radio now, even on smartphones, so mentioning it isn't very relevant anymore, especially since TV news channels have largely replaced it. That's why people don't really use it on smartphones either.

Then there were voice recorders and other devices, these were all separate before and had their own demand. But because of smartphones, there are now hundreds of such products whose demand has dropped significantly, since everything is available in a single device.

We all just use the worse option because it's already in our pocket. We chose convenience over quality and that's true throughout technology, not just phones.

This is what happens when one device becomes the main device. It's not innovation going out. It's innovation contracting. Everything coming to a point.

Who profits from the collapse? Not the small manufacturers. Not the repair guys. The platform owners benefit. Apple gets 30% of all apps. Google owns the most widely used OS. The "convenience" you're referring to has a landlord. We all rent it whether we like it or not.

Camera is the saddest one. Because mobile cameras improved and improved, which killed off point and shoot cameras. But there are still cameras for professionals. So the death was the middle: the amateur who bought a $200 Canon. That middle market just evaporated.

Honestly, while TVs are still widely used in my neighborhood and perhaps even in my country I haven’t seen a DVD player in ages. Seriously, they’re extremely rare these days, and since they’re not antiques it seems like no one collects them anymore. This is different from, say the PlayStation, where I still occasionally see videos of people collecting them. And as for the third one, the radio it’s almost nonexistent though maybe in remote areas some people still use them as for the others, it seems they’re still used by a few people.

Those old things are not a ritual belief but a way of sustaining some of the past like the use of calendar from civilization and is what must old people do. Yes what torchlight can cover is not the same of what the phone torchlight can do because with a torchlight you could see any object at 1,200 meters away because of the brightness but in phone torchlight you could only see few meters but however since we can at least use a phone torchlight for half of the purpose of normal torchlight it has done the work. In those days we can't buy television alone and think we can be watching movies but however we would have to buy what can be use to play it but it was easy when Netflix came.

But their functionality was once in constant demand. But then they were replaced by other things. Your point is really valid about the progress of technology because its helps a lot to solve the daily life problems. If we review history we found that a tool which looks essential after some time its looks useless. Let see in previous time when there was not electricity then kerosene bulbs have a lot of worth but in present time the latest technology like LED replace it. And the same pattern is repeats with the cell phone industry and currently the cell phone is a combination of multiple devices and its changes with the customer demands. Its not means the old technologies are useless because innovations are actually the results of old technologies and now the technology is used is the base of innovation for future technology.

Do you also know that many businesses are affected because they failed to adapt and bring in new methods, they are stuck with what they have been selling for the past several years and today they lost.

No one is buying from them anymore, customers have moved on completely, business dies the moment you lack that orientation to adapt as the world evolves, when new things are coming be ready.

I remember a guy who is into electronics store, he was selling CRT monitors and LCD monitors, today people hardly use IPS monitors, people prefer to go for Miniled and Oled displays today, I told him this in 2024, today it's a hot cake business.

Adapting and evolving is the main secret here. Any business stuck with their conventional product can only last for a decade. Once another generation takes over, their product would be considered obsolete. I agree to the point that many businesses were shut down because they did not evolve but we should also look at the positive side. There were a number of medium to large scale business launched only because of the evolution. In order to develop, we need to evolve and adapt technology because without technology, there is no future.

The same guy should have started selling OLED or Dream Display monitors and now he would have had a stable business. If he was stuck with CRT or LCD monitors, he would only be stuck with repairs or claims.

At same time there are benefits on this shift from the old days to nowadays, which consist in accessibility and easiness, there are also cons like the fact too much power is being concentrated on few companies. And all this power was removed from the small companies which don't even exist anymore these days, as they were incorporated (purchased) to the big ones.

As consequence, we have another cons: decreasement on competition in the market, what contributes to expensive prices, as companies don't feel encouraged to conquer the customer by offering more accessible prices, considering they don't have many direct competitors looking for the same target audience.

But to work professionally, you have to rely on a separate device.  So I think everything has not been completely replaced. I don't really think this is true anymore. Phones are now designed to operate under heavy load and complete difficult tasks. Phones are now mini computers which fit into our pockets. I don't think separate devices would be required if we know our way around. We can use a single phone to complete all our works or tasks no matter how important they are. Even tablets can be considered as phones due to their carrier ability. Tablets in specific can do almost everything that a computer can do so people prefer purchasing a tablet instead of getting a heavy desktop or a laptop.

Phones are still undergoing development and I think all the missing features you miss would soon be included on the phones making them a complete package where all your daily work will be done on your fingertips.

Yes, brother, time is evolving very fast, and older things are getting replaced with the new technology of these days. All we need, we get all in one technology called a mobile phone. There was a time when we needed to make some family photos, so we had to arrange the camera for that specific purpose or special event. But now we have mobile phones, we can click at any moment of our lives at any random place. And if one is more concerned about the quality of the result, then the latest versions of phones and iPhones also fulfil their customers' demands.
