I want to thank all contributors on this forum who have always promote Bitcoin for the past how many years now? There was a time where only small numbers of people knows about Bitcoin but today Bitcoin is well known, thanks for your contribution.
I seek for your attention today because of what's happening in the world right now, I want you to drop your old habit about promoting Bitcoin, from now on Bitcoin will be fine, there is no need to talk or promote Bitcoin anymore.
It's not a warning, it's a command, for your own good, it's not safe to talk and promote Bitcoin anymore, the world knows about it right now, the mission is already over.
You still want to ask why?
I could be that India guy working with Binance Exchange going through people's information, and passing it to my group back home, and I can make them go to people's home to forcefully collect some Bitcoin from them, at gun point or using machetes and swords.
I can be that that hacker who doesn't care about stealing from exchanges anymore, but rather prefer to go after exchanges data, KYC information and many others then bring up a dirty group of people who are good at home invasion.
Your missiion is long over fellas, Bitcoin have gotten passed that lack of awareness stage, drop everything and live a silent life, it's for you and your families sake, may we live long enough to enjoy everything we have worked for.
Stay safe out there people.

You're really into clickbait, aren't you?
There are several ways to promote Bitcoin without revealing your identity, such as on this very forum. So, don't promote Bitcoin because you are going to get a $% wrench attack is quite narrow minded to say the least. As for the idea that Bitcoin doesn't need any more promotion—you only have to look at how its price has evolved over the past five years to see that a little more promotion wouldn't hurt.
I'll do whatever I want; you don't get to tell me what to do.

We are aware of how some Bitcoin investors are being bullied and attacked because they exposed themselves, and their bitcoin investment to the wrong people. This is happening both physically, and online. There was a story I read here where a student was being killed by his friend just because he exposed his bitcoin portfolio to his friend, and that marked the end of his life. Let us learn how to invest calmly, and avoid exposing ourselves to the general public as bitcoin investors, doing that will only expose you to danger, and criminals around. It is good we are discussing bitcoin here as a community with common interests, but let us be very careful the way talk about bitcoin in the public, and avoid telling people any concerning your investment, and your portfolio. Before now, the attackers were not so pronounced, but right now, for your own safety, and security reasons, desist from the public.

Buddy, you’ve bought into the media scare. Crime is constant, but journalists know that adding "cryptocurrency" to a headline is a clickbait goldmine. Security is a personal responsibility. I keep my head down, never share my addresses, and spread my assets around. I use tools that make tracking impossible—for example, Cryptomus provides a fresh address for every deposit. Since the funds go into a common pool, the link between the sender and the withdrawal is broken. Sometimes I run a hop through Monero just to be sure the trail is cold. And at the end of the day, a tight-knit local community is the best defense. Around here, we know who belongs and who doesn't. A stranger looking for trouble wouldn't make it past the first block

i do think that whether we talk about bitcoin or stop promoting it, these things are still bound to happen and from all the illustrations you have given, all these things didn't just happen because people preached and promoted bitcoin but simply because we have some very bad eggs in our mindst that don't mind stealing from others and stealing don't just happen because it is crypto but rather stealing have been here and since people now know that, bitcoin is valuable, they also have to channel their energy over there too which isn't a good one.
so rather than stopping to advocate for bitcoin, we should rather do it ore carefully and always remember that these criminals wouldn't hesitate launching an attack on any potential victim.

Bitcoin was never just about hype or promotion. A big part of it is still education and helping others use it safely. Risks are real, but going completely silent isn’t the answer either. Just stay private, careful, and use common sense.

You are not at a position with any power to make any command to anyone in the forum. If it is your reminder, your advice to forum community, I agree with you because I understand that risk of Wrench attacks, physical attacks are real and consequences sometimes are not only loss of bitcoin or cryptocurrencies but disabilities or deaths. Will people all do as you advised? I guess they won't because wrench attacks, physical attacks are not new, and these attacks don't occur only in 2026 year but many past years. There will still people who do their jobs, favorite actions, and you can not command them stop doing this.

I understand the concern, but stopping all talk about Bitcoin is too extreme. The real issue is security. Instead of silence, people should just be more careful, don’t share too much, protect your info, and stay low-profile. Awareness helps people stay safe, not silence.

Everyone is free to do as they please in terms of telling others about Bitcoin or not. Personally I have never openly advertised that I have and am into Bitcoin. I have always found it a bit of a liability advertising you own Bitcoin and especially for those who would show off their wealth and generally being too flashy with their wealth. I have also stopped talking about Bitcoin to my friends, I have already explained it to them and I dont need to keep at it. I wonder how "The Bitcoin Family" manage their security as they are openly advertising their Bitcoin journey and as with other well known proponents of Bitcoin? https://thebitcoinfamily.com/

Even though I feel like OP is quite exergerating his skepticism about promoting Bitcoin in the public I still understand his concern because of the $5 wrench attacks that is gradually gaining ground in France, and some other countries, you don't know who will be the next victim. I'm sure that most of the victims didn't think that they will be targeted by these robbers so the more private we are about Bitcoin the better secured we will be not to be targeted.
Bitcoin is decentralized and I guess that it is in an anonymous forum like this that is best to promote it where our real identities are protected because promoting Bitcoin in forums where your identity can be traced might endanger you. Although I feel quite sad that we will not be very free to talk about Bitcoin in the open especially about what we are worth because of our own safety. I've stopped talking about Bitcoin not because of physical attacks but some people will think that i want to sell a Ponzi scheme to them.

No need to talk about bitcoin anymore? It's not safe to talk about bitcoin anymore? Well, this is as good as shutting down the forum too. I think the first step to stop talking about bitcoin is to close down this forum since we come here everyday to discuss Bitcoin just as we are doing now. But again, there are several platforms out there where Bitcoin is discussed too. Perhaps, we should visit them one after the other to preach the same thing until there is no where Bitcoin is longer mentioned. Do you really think this will solve the problem? I mean after we don't longer talk about bitcoin or promote it, does that mean the bad agents working with exchange will not longer have access to our data again? Does it really stop hackers from stealing information? Do you really think discussing or promoting bitcoin has anything to do with the two examples you cited? Because I actually don't see any connection here. I know discussing about Bitcoin with strangers is wrong and can be risky but whether we stop talking about it or not, the data theft and attack continues..

I've never promoted Bitcoin among my friends and acquaintances. That's the stupidest thing any crypto enthusiast could do. My friend had a car with a Bitcoin sticker on it, and while it used to be funny and cute, like "I believe in new technologies," now it would be a sign that said, "I have money because I love crypto." And if he drives around the country where I live, he'll be a target. And if he travels to the Middle East, he'll be kidnapped and beaten up within a couple of days. This is reality, and everyone should be careful about sharing this hobby.

For me it depends on who you promoted it. If you want to help someone and that person is close to you then why not? It's not Bitcoin is for everyone. Lucky are those who are early investors, but we still have sometime for us to scrape those remaining BTC.
And it's decentralized, so no one can stop someone from promoting it.

That was funny. It reminded me of a popular meme. You’re right, posting on bitcointalk is also a form of promotion. When people visit the forum, they can answers to any questions they may have because users post frequently and share their experiences and knowledge. I wonder how "The Bitcoin Family" manage their security as they are openly advertising their Bitcoin journey and as with other well known proponents of Bitcoin?
Every time I read of a physical attack on a bitcoin hodler, I often think of the bitcoin family and how they have managed to keep themselves safe despite having that kind of popularity.

This makes sense even without over-flogging the issue. People are getting killed for crypto and common sense should tell everyone that you do not flaunt crypto ownership these days, especially if you own a lot of it. I think the primary targets of kidnappers are crypto influencers and all those crypto guys on X and Instagram. Everyone ought to exercise some restraint.

Bitcoin can be the subject of discussion with out making it sound like you have a ton of Money invested in it. Not mentioning ANY THING about Bitcoin is not necessary. Simply make people think you find it interesting with out giving hints about your personal holdings. But this is the dumbest thing ever, I can be that that hacker who doesn't care about stealing from exchanges anymore, but rather prefer to go after exchanges data, KYC information and many others then bring up a dirty group of people who are good at home invasion.
A hacker stopping from stealing 'over the air' from Exchanges to invade homes instead is the dumbest idea. Why would they do that? If someone is stealing customer information from Binance to set up wrench attacks and kidnaps, what does that have to do with promoting Bitcoin? This can still happen even if the said person never mentioned Bitcoin or Cryptocurrencies even once out loud.

The world is already in bad shape, and anyone who cares about his safety will be mindful of how they talk about bitcoin in public. Bitcoin has grown to the stage that if anyone want to know anything about it, they can browse it through the and find any information thy are seeking about bitcoin. One’s safety should be considered above anything else.

In the past weeks I have put down my fashion business sign board that has "we accept Bitcoin payment" too. There is no point in struggling so much to have a better life and end up in kidnappers den, beating the hell out of you simply because they get a information that you have Bitcoin or something, it's now a thing here that if they know you are into Bitcoin they will start saluting as if all the bitcoin supply belongs to you.

Bitcoin still needs integration to services. This way we can have no problem looking for stores to use Bitcoin as payment. @OP I do not know what is in your mind but sure thing you can stop promoting Bitcoin now and let those companies that integrates Bitcoin promotes their services. Good, I've stopped talking about crypto in general, someone very close asked me if I am still investing in crypto I told him not much like before, I have no passion for it, I said this because he talks too much too. In the past weeks I have put down my fashion business sign board that has "we accept Bitcoin payment" too.
Well, we don't need to answer people who asked about our Bitcoin involvement. And I don't see any problem with sign like "accepting Bitcoin" as payment option, after all as an establishment that sells stuff, it is already at risk of getting robbed even if that store don't accept Bitcoin. There is no point in struggling so much to have a better life and end up in kidnappers den, beating the hell out of you simply because they get a information that you have Bitcoin or something, it's now a thing here that if they know you are into Bitcoin they will start saluting as if all the bitcoin supply belongs to you.
Just keep a low profile, we don't need to flex any wealth we have. Even if the person is not involved in any cryptocurrency, if he keep on bragging about his income and wealth, he will be targeted by people with ill intention.
