Canelo Alvarez will fight Christian Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight belt. We all know that Terence Crawford beat Canelo to become undisputed, but he was stripped of the WBC belt for failing to pay or doesn't want to pay the sanctioning fees approximately $300,000.

Now WBC, (obviously they love their fellow Mexican Canelo Alvarez), ordered this fight as Mbilli was elevated as champion. So this is another chance for Canelo to win one of his belt back.

This is a very interesting fight. We all know how Canelo fights very methodically. He sized you up, studied your movement, power, and ring IQ, then he adjusted to beat you.

Mbili is a strong power puncher with a wicked left hook, but he is slow and stiff; many of the fighters he has knocked out were easy targets. With Canelo, I don't think he can do what he did to his previous opponents; he is still undefeated with 29 wins and 24 fights, looks impressive, but not so when facing Canelo.

I expect Canelo to regain his WBC Super Middleweight title

Of course, Canelo is still the main attraction among Mexican boxing fans, so he gets a favor to fight a champion that the organization will find easy to deal with, and that is Mbili, but Mbili is a real deal; he may not have the ring generalship of Crawford, but he packs a power on both hands.
Canelo moved slowly in his last fight against Crawford. Let's see if he is still the Canelo the boxing world has known.

Yes, they all give favor to Canelo. I remember years ago when he wanted to go to CW and in the WBC convention they said yes. But it didn't happen, as Canelo might be thinking that division is too big for him even at LHW.

So remain in Super MW and unified the belt if I'm not mistaken then lost it to Crawford. I'm still convinced that Canelo can still fight and can win this fight. Mbili doesn't have a good movement inside the ring so he is hittable. All of Canelo's lost are against those boxers that have good movement and doesn't stay in the packet for him to hit cleanly.

In terms of height, reach, and even age, there isn't much of a difference, but it looks like Alvarez got far more experience in the ring than Mbili, which would give him some advantage.
I wouldn't be too surprised if this fight goes the distance and Canelo gets all the scorecards by making controlled and quality shots at his opponent. If Mbili wants to win this fight, he's got to live up to his nickname "Solid" and brace for Canelo's punches.  Grin

Yes, Canelo has the experience advantage here, he has fought a lot of champion in the past. Most likely if will also goes to the distance and the judges scoring it all for Canelo. In order for Mbili to win, he will need to have a perfect game plan here.

He had power to doubt about it, just the question whether he can touch Canelo like what Bivol does or Crawford. Otherwise, he will have to chase Alvarez the whole fight. Canelo's boxing IQ might also be a big factor here and so it's a very hard fight for Mbili and I wouldn't also be surprised for Canelo winning the WBC belt again.

Does this mean that Mbilli was gotten the belt due to the conflicts of Crawford or penalty? Was that means by elevated from the WBC. I know Canelo is the undisputed on this weight and trying to get his title but this kind of juncture really happened on boxing when someone got stripped of their belt due to illegal stuff? Well Mbilli is something people looking forward to watch against Canelo, with only 1 loss at record I think he better prove that the champion belt he got now is truly a deserved achievement.

Christian Mbilli is by no means a cry baby, especially considering the explosive capability that he possesses that could be a real threat, should Canelo bounced back to his usual tranquil dawdling feebleness. Nevertheless, the unanimous acceptance of the boxing world organization is normally a psychological advantage and a better opportunity of the Mexican populace favourite. True to say, ring control is a significant constituent to those who would want to check explosive aggressions of Christian Mbilli. A struggle will either begin as the glory days of Canelo begin to wane or demand that he remains as strong as ever.

With how much Canelo has declined, this is going to be a competitive fight. Mbilli is an undefeated, strong puncher with a high work rate. Canelo on the other hand, hasn’t knocked anybody out in years and is more economical with his punches. Where Mbilli is at a disadvantage is his level of experience. He hasn’t really faced the best, and when he has stepped up, some of his flaws have been exposed. A younger Canelo would have easily outclassed Mbilli, but today I think it'll be a close decision going in Canelo’s favor.

This is what I understand, Mbilli became their interim champion after the WBC stripped Crawford. And then they ordered Mbilli to fight Sheeraz, but later cancelled due to  to stalled negotiations.

And then enter Canelo Alvarez in the picture, so now it will be Alvarez vs Mbilli for the WBC belt.

I don't know, but boxing politics as they put Canelo on a position to be a WBC champion again, thanks to the Sulaiman.

Ow I see. If the boxer got stripped of his belt, why not the association leave it open for anyone in that division and not just gave it on someone and make him a title holder cause it feels an easy way.

Though Im sure they make sure whom to give this belt thoroughly. Nothing just my personal thought but this match with Canelo will be his proving match for that belt. Canelo is indeed a crowds favorite but he did proven his experience and being a champion.

Though Christian Mbilli is not a popular boxer but basing on his record with 29 wins and 24 of those coming via knockout i think he could pose problems to Canelo Alvarez as he is more of a volume puncher and with Canelo already aging i think Christian Mbilli could make this an exciting fight. The funny fact with this WBC is that Canelo seems to be their adapted son, always given the opportunity for a championship fight while the others are stripped of the title whenever a boxer can't fulfill their obligations.

Coming off the loss, he had elbow surgery, but turning 36 in July, Canelo still has plenty of belief in himself.

“I’m so confident. I’m always confident because I know where I am, how I train, how I feel and how good I am,” Canelo said at the press conference. “So I’m very confident.”

Asked about his desire following his 63-3-2 (39 KOs) career, the Mexican insisted: “I still want it. I feel like I’m 15 years old.”

https://www.boxingscene.com/articles/canelo-alvarez-says-next-foe-christian-mbilli-has-zero-chance-to-beat-him

So Canelo is still very much confident that he can beat Mbilli this September and be a world champion again. On the other hand, Mbilli says that he knows Canelo's weaknesses, although we have seen the blue print already like against Bivol, a very quick and throws a lot of volume. Or a very technical fighter in Crawford.

But I'm leaning towards Mibilli using his volume punches to throw Canelo off balance.

This fight is still in September, so either side have a lot of time to train and study each other. But there could be pressure on the shoulder of Alvarez here? He says that he still wants to be a champion once more, but what if his body after so many years of fighting is telling him differently?

So there's only one way to find out. Hopefully, Canelo will still have his A game here. But he shouldn't underestimate Mbilli, this guy is a big puncher and so this could really be 50/50 by any chance.

I just forgot the link to the video, but it's a video of Alvarez sparring against Zurdo Ramirez from 3 years ago. He can take punches from bigger guys, and based on what we've seen in his match against Crawford, he can take big punches. It's just that Crawford is very elusive, and he is a skillful boxer

He never loses to a big puncher; it's always on fighters with good, better skills, and I don't see Mbili as a guy with superb skills. He is a big puncher who is slow to move, so Canelo will catch him and win by KO or decision.

I don't think Alvarez gets the pressure here. He's even mocking Mbilli by said he would not able to beat him even when he was 50 years old. So i see the amount of confidence owned by him to fight Mbilli in this game. However, i hope he puts some respect on his opponent.

Other than that i agree Mbilli is a big puncher and he's good physically. So it potentially to trouble him. However, Mbilli is too often relied upon the relentless pressure, which often leave opponent chance to attack him. So i think Canelo is gonna win this game by decision.

He might have been hiding that with that kind of mockery. Alvarez is on a must win situation here. He is coming from a big lost to Crawford and he can't afford back to back loses. His aura has gone, shattered already. So if he losses here, might be very hard for him to comeback.

That's an interesting observation, yes, maybe Canelo will win by a decision. But if he starts very slow like in the Crawford fight and allowed Mbili to score in the early rounds then he has to make a comeback in order to win. So it's going to be harder if that will be his strategy.

Canelo is just selling the fight, and he also wants to motivate Mbili. Mbili is not a top-notch boxer; this is his first major fight, and he wants Mbili to come out strong and challenged, but there is a hint of truthfulness in what Canelo is saying.
Mbili is not on Canelo's level, and Canelo losing this fight is a big blow to his legacy, so he should be more motivated to win this fight and win it grandly.

Tyson already said that everybody has a plan until they get hit. Every boxer Canelo has met says the same thing: they know Canelo's weaknesses, but many of them failed.

Quote
But I'm leaning towards Mibilli using his volume punches to throw Canelo off balance.

Mbili is not a volume puncher; his punches got in his opponents because they lack movement and defense. He is slow and waits for the opening.
I don't think he will see an opening against Canelo. His defense is tight. You need to be a technical and quick fighter to exploit Canelo's defense.

Mbilli might have the power, but I don't think that it will be enough to bet Canelo. We know that Canelo could have been aging, and the wear and tear, but with the right opponent, it could still bring out the best out of Alvarez.

So yeah, Mbilli is not on the level of Canelo, but still Canelo wanted to hype this fight as this is his comeback and he want his fans to still watch him as he is still one of the cash cow of boxing even though others might think that he is going out of his career.
