China has introduced a zero percent tariff policy for imports from about 53 African countries excluding Eswatini due to her ties with Taiwan. This move will see African goods penetrating the Chinese market without any import duty which will translate to making goods coming from the African, market cheaper and more competitive with those of china in the Chinese market. With these policy coming to effect from the first of May agricultural goods such as Cocoa,Coffee, yam,Fruits including Natural resources and raw materials will be free from paying any form of import duty making these products more cheaper accessing the Chinese market. But the big question that came to my mind when I first saw this News was, why is China doing this. This is a strategic and well calculated move by China to strengthen trade ties with Africa and continue to have more footing and influence in the African market, there by position itself as a major partner of the Global South which will translate to expanding Chinese global dominance agenda. But one shocking revelation that I found out is that, even with these zero tariffs Africa still exports less to China than it imports from China annually, so China is not stupid but this is strategic in nature, and has a goal that they intend to achieve. This is a good and welcome development but it will have little impact on the African continent this is because until African countries improve in the areas of production, infrastructure, and industrial development which will see African countries move closer to the part of industrialization exporting cars, smart phones, engine and even technology to China and to the rest of the world. Until that is done these types of moves will not translate to real success as it will be seen by country such as America as another plot from China to lay more hold on Africa which is the battle ground for the next world order. Forgive me if my views differs from the aim of this deal but am only a concerned Africa speaking. https://www.legit.ng/business-economy/economy/1708128-china-grants-nigeria-52-african-nations-tariff-access-imports-2028/

You are right and your concern are genuine. Although it's a welcome development, but no one should make it look as if China is doing Africans favour only, as the benefits are mutual, but still more beneficial to China overall. This will further solidify their dominance in the region, help them with positive trade balance and improve their industries by buying Africans raw materials, and it will be cheap.
The unfortunate part is that, even with this policy, many African countries will suffer to export, for most of them are consuming nations, which has plague the continent to this day.

Not only does this have "little impact on the African continent", I'm also afraid it's even detrimental especially in the long run. While I don't trust the US, China isn't any better, although it seems its approach is more effective. It doesn't come around as a terror boss, but as a big brother extending a helping hand.
I'm sure the zero-tariff part is the one being highlighted when in fact the rest of the terms are heavily lopsided in favor of China. Even today, Chinese companies are all over the African continent, desecrating their land for whatever minerals and other resources the red country needs. What's even more unfortunate is that these operators are bringing not just their own equipment but even their own lowly laborers all the way from China.
I'm sure many African countries are already held by the neck by China that they have no choice but to concede whatever China is interested in.

What's amazing is that there were even import tariffs on any African countries in the first place. The trade imbalance will be huge - Africa imports huge amounts of goods from China yet very little flows the other way. It was trivial and insignificant for them to remove these barriers anyway, you can see it is clearly used as a political leverage tool now. It's not a surprise at all that Africa exports little besides raw commodities because for it's huge size, it is still very dysfunctional with few major industries existing there. I saw a documentary the other day that showed Nigeria as having only one major port that receives and sends overseas goods, which is crazy when you consider it has the biggest population country in Africa and much smaller countries have multiple in comparison.

Africa is full of leaders and people that are third world and annoying to the point that they are only exporting raw materials that was created naturally. They are unable to export what are manufactured in their countries because they do not have the brain to manufacture it.

So if there is tariff when it comes to Africans bringing goods to china, it also a welcome development, I know that over the years Africans have not been bringing too much of goods to China but I believe this new development would help and enhance more exportation from Africa to China.

Sometimes, such international marketing affiliations actually happens to enhance ties and while the local marketing sectors as that of Africa is being given the benefits to ease expenses by the readjustment of tarrif plans on the local goods exportations. It is true that most African countries will have less competitive goods to be traded in the China market because they are less in productions and technological innovations that should catch the China international and global market except for agricultures which might not be up to the standard to influence the Chinese market while the Chinese products could dominate the Africans market's. So I strongly believe that the feature of this China readjustment to the tarrif was an infrastructure to benefit them mostly than it would benefit the local markets. Maybe a long term economy goal has also been in sightt.

Africa is full of leaders and people that are third world and annoying to the point that they are only exporting raw materials that was created naturally. They are unable to export what are manufactured in their countries because they do not have the brain to manufacture it. China would have a greater advantage since Africa's trade deficit with China is US$100 billion in 2025. The only African countries that might take advantage of this tariff removal are industrialized African nations like South Africa. It is an opportunity for African countries to have access to the Chinese market since China is seeking more trading partners. With the instability in the Middle East, China is seeking alternative sources of oil suppliers. Iran is China's major oil supplier and the US blockage is having adverse consequences on its oil and gas industry. Africa can also take advantage of its agricultural potential to export products to China's large market. This policy is not a win-win for Africa, but it's an opportunity to reduce trade deficit.

China is not doing any favours to Africa in this regard. It's a business; they're not giving the things to Africa for free, nor are they selling the products at a loss to Africa just so that they can afford them. If I buy something from you, you're not doing me a favour. I gave you money, and you gave me your product or service. I can say "thank you " as a courtesy, but it doesn't mean it's a favour because I paid for it. In fact, there is the illusion that Africa has benefited more from China, which is not true at all. China not only get a market to sell their products and make money, but they also get a place where they can get natural resources and rare earth minerals, plus cheap labour. Africa is still lagging behind despitethe Chinese market, though. so... As for the zero tariff deal, it will only favour the people who export natural resources to China, and when you look at it, it's not much because Chinese companies in Africa buy most of those resurces from people in Africa and them export them to china. This is just another way to make Africans think they are getting favours from China. I respect it though. It's business afterall and you have to keep your customers happy, one way or another. One of those ways is by playing the good guy.

I think this kind of opportunity is a test for Africa because it shows wether we're ready to move from discussing or acting. If o ky government producers and farmers can come together and work, improve in quality, packaging and processing this thing can really help but if there is no sign of seriousness, celebrating tariff free acess will just be in vain while nothing really changes in reality. So the real thing here isn't about china move but how Africa will respond to it

This decision was not made to help Nigerian businesses, I can tell you this for free. Nigeria and China share a very strong business relationship as most of the goods in the Nigerian market are from China. But no one know that China take a lot of their raw material from Nigeria. Nigeria have been one of Chinese supply of lithium, limestone and many other rare earth metals. The reason these are documented because they are collected illegally through their network with the politicians and traditional rulers. What I think China is doing is to encourage their people to focus in Africa.

The short response is that zero-tariff on African exports to China is definitely a good development. But one must ask if the great trade deficit between Africa and China was due to tariff, i do not think so. China exports far more goods to Africa, than Africa does to China, the difference is very wide. The reason still falls back to African nations: poor infrastructure, limited production and other constraints.
So in order for this zero-tariff to have an impact on African economies, they must also expand their export capacity and diversify their exports to China. But this is no doubt a very good opportunity for African goods to enter the Chinese market in greater numbers and be competitive.

China removed tariffs on most but not all. The one with ties to Taiwan China gave nothing. For the rest of Africa they'll will be flooded by Chinese goods, makes it harder for the home companies to compete.
Enjoying tariffs is not too bad, as the country needs to develop by itself, nothing wrong with it.

China is already a developed country that every African countries can benefit from, in terms of technology, agriculture products, food and beverages, these are what China produces and so they need less product from Africa, something they are lacking which I don't know yet.
China needs African countries to patronize their business more than African needs China, almost everything in Africa are imported from China, so the only product China could needs are agriculture products that China are lacking, may be used for food processing and other stuffs.

This good news to me, this exactly what the global south wants to see.
While the west are busy looting and bombing African countries, China are doing otherwise. This is a good definition of partnership and also example of how the multipolar world would/should be in the future. Not just African countries but African countries who they have diplomatic ties with.

This good news to me, this exactly what the global south wants to see.
While the west are busy looting and bombing African countries, China are doing otherwise. This is a good definition of partnership and also example of how the multipolar world would/should be in the future. Not just African countries but African countries who they have diplomatic ties with.
While the whole world or rather developed countries are actually trying to fight each other or fight developing countries and also third world nations I think China is seizing this opportunity to grow their economy through partnership. If we see clearly this is a mindset of business oriented people. For me while China is actually looking out for themselves it also gives African countries who have enslaved themselves in the hand of all western countries to actually grow their own economy too through the Chinese partnership.

With the denial and threat of trade much reduced with USA being a normal theme, China will be desperate to develop alternate markets. EU is not that source of growth due to their own red tape problems. This is not belt and road strategic planning but China has a plan to develop this market is true overall and the free flow is useful as the whole continent has the commodity wealth China can often do well with.

This is clearly a strategic move by China, hoping that some African governments will adopt similar policies. This should be welcomed positively by the people there, although I consider China's move quite bold given the region's still-poor geopolitical stability (or, from China's perspective, it could be seen as a "great opportunity"). Geographically, the African plains, like the Middle East, may be even more rich in natural resources, but they lack the region's ability to manage their natural resources as effectively as those regions, who could finance development as a developed nation more quickly.

Perhaps China is trying to control the African market through a policy of tax exemption, unlike what Trump did by raising tariffs on most countries of the world. I see it as a wise and smart move by China, unlike the United States.
Instead of raising tariffs and making everyone angry at you to get some extra money, you can bring in much greater economic benefits and obtain huge economic resources in this way. With this step, China not only attracted the African market but also presented itself as the good brother in contrast to the bad and greedy United States.

I am not so sure "control" is the right world here, they are trying to increase the presence of African products in the Chinese market. In other words increase their competitiveness in the Chinese market. Though like i already said, i do not think tariffs was the reason for the huge trade deficit between Africa and China. I believe it to be caused by challenges in production, logistics and other whatnots in African countries. That is the more reason why i feel the more developed African countries would be the major beneficiaries of this policy in the short term.
