One feeling I've discovered over the years is, when you're winning, greed steps in and you don't feel like stopping and immediately you start loosing the thought of recovering all the little that has been lost so you can quit will hit your mind and even though you recover back you still feel like gambling more but in most cases immediately you start losing you just end up losing with few wins until everything is exhausted. As if this is not enough it will still repeat itself in the next gambling session.
So the question is, why don't you quit when you've won quite a reasonable amount? Or when you've evened back your previous max win?

If a gambler has won a certain amount of money in gambling at least once, then he will stop and think about what else he can play and multiply this amount. And if this guy really has a lucky day, he will be able to multiply this amount in the end, he will get a pretty big win. And he will remember this feeling forever and will think that it will be like this every time. And that is why gamblers constantly do not want to settle on even one win, dreaming more that they will arrange a complete life change now, but in fact most of them will eventually lose in an attempt to multiply their winnings.

Because you want more.

The system of online casinos is set to make a gambler win some money sometimes, which will urge them to keep on coming back. This is actually where gambling addiction begins if it is not controlled. A gambler will keep on coming back because he wants to feel that joy of becoming a winner again. It's addictive, and I know based on experience.
I already won x5000, x23000, and x10000 in slots, but I still played after all those big wins. Although I didn't waste it all in gambling. I buy some goods and necessities first so that they will not go back to the deposits. As much as possible, withdraw the money and use it. That way, you can avoid spending it again on gambling.

So the question is, why don't you quit when you've won quite a reasonable amount? Or when you've evened back your previous max win?
When a gambler is winning consistently, it triggers something in you which is dopamine, and if that triggers, that's a signal that you should keep going and win more and because of that, you can't force yourself to quit even though you need to. It will come to a point where your emotions such as excitement, confidence and greed will start taking over, and if they lose, they'll think that they're just using their profit therefore, they will gamble more with more risk as well.

Also, another reason is that gamblers often aim for much higher profit than a fixed amount. A gambler could say that they'll stop whenever they reach X amount of dollars, but once they reached it, they'll change their goal immediately and suddenly, they'll reach for a higher goal. They can't feel any satisfaction with the money that they won because the adrenaline rush that they got because they won money keeps pulling them back in to get more money hence, they can't quit.

Some gamblers don't know the word "contentment" and instead of ending the day winning, they are ending up losing most or even all of their money.

If your luck is shining and you keep winning, why will you have to stop gambling? I know that such situation can lead to greed which is the problem you are describing here, but such situation now lead us to experience on management of the bankroll. What I do in a situation that my luck is shining and I continue to win, is to maintain the same amount I use to gamble. That is, if I decide to bet $10 per bet with a daily budget of five bets before I stop for the day, even if one of the bets gives me $1000 winning, I will still maintain that $10 per bet and immediately I lose three to five consecutive losses, I'm done for the day but until such condition happens or I'm tired, I'm still gambling.

The answer is already on your post. The urge of getting more is the reason why it’s hard to stop when experiencing profit.

Personally, I manage to snap out of this cycle during my newbie days after experiencing it repeatedly and learned to that mistake through time.

You can have a realization about this loop once you experience this on your own and do an evaluation when you’re done gambling.

If I am greedy, I am not greedy to the point that I would win some money while gambling and still not withdraw the money but prefer to continue to gamble. I know this is just a very big mistake for me as can lose all the money.

If I win few amount of money already while gambling, I prefer to withdraw the money and it has to be withdrawn immediately I won it so that I will not have second thought about it.

Anyone that do not withdraw the winning but continue to gamble, the person could probably be a gambling addict. Gambling addits will not like to withdraw in this situation.

Most gamblers repeat their mistakes because of indiscipline caused by greed, if you cannot control your gambling habit then gambling which is addictive will control you so you can either learn to discipline yourself or you will be repeating the same mistake over again. I can tell you that it is not everybody that gambles that repeats such mistakes, I can tell you that I've purged myself from such irresponsible gambling. I have reassessed gambling and found out that if you are desperate to win you will be trapped and that is why they continue to chase loses because of desperation to recover. If you learn to use very small amount to gamble you will not be bothered to chase loses if you're on a losing streak.

OP, scenarios such as you have talked about happen as a result of a lack of self-control and allowing emotions to outweigh your initial plans for gambling. With respect to this, playing on a budget and time frame would really help reduce the adverse effect of wanting to play more just because you are winning, but if disciplined, you will definitely have the consciousness that you are on budget, and you must follow your gambling principles, so that you do not make any mistakes of allowing your emotions to control you while gambling. This is another aspect of self-discipline that players need to take seriously if they want to stay free of addiction or to chase losses while gambling. Maybe this could help to reduce the adverse effect of one wanting to gamble more while winning or losing on a streak.

No matter which of the situations you described a person finds themselves in, they usually keep playing anyway. I think it often starts like this: players begin gambling, they lose, and then they try to win their money back. If a player manages to win and make a profit, they start thinking that gambling is a good way to earn money, either as extra income or with hopes of hitting a much bigger win. Believing they are skilled enough, they start placing larger bets in order to win more. Then, when they eventually hit a losing streak, they lose everything they had won and begin desperately trying to recover their losses. For most players, that’s exactly how the whole cycle unfolds.

It doesn't happen to me, but as for why it happens to so many people, it's simply because of the emotional factor. If it were based purely on rational, mathematical analysis, no one would bet—or they would do so only very rarely, looking for huge multipliers. In fact, casinos now that this emotional component is just as important—if not more so—than the HE, which is why they design games like slots down to the smallest detail to encourage those behavioral patterns, or, where permitted in brick-and-mortar casinos, offer free drinks to gamblers. This approach typically yields them a high return on investment.

This is very common with gamblers who don't have a concrete plan before they start gambling, they won't know what to do at the right time , losing is very certain in gambling, while winning comes once in a while, a beginner in gambling must understand certain things before they start to gamble.

There should not be a reason to be chasing your loss in gambling, this is the first thing to get out of the way, always be ready to lose what you can only afford to lose,  the smaller the amount of money the better you will feel when you lose it, this is what many gamblers aren't advising others, instead they twisted it, saying you need to risk big amount to win big amount, those who believe in this crazy advice are the ones who have to get back what they have lost because they risked too much.

I think it only happens to those gamblers that are greedy and feel they can make more profit but it ends up being the opposite. Some gamblers have too much confidence in themselves that the moment they start losing, they'll feel that they made a little mistake in the previous bet which made them lose the bet. They believe they will fix the mistake in their next bet.

I am a gambler who is contented with whatever, amount of money that I win and I don't continue playing when my time limit is up. I was like that when I didn't understand that gambling is a game of luck and the longer you play the higher your losses.

I think it only happens to those gamblers that are greedy and feel they can make more profit but it ends up being the opposite.
You just described like 99.99% of those who gamble. Grin

Its simple really, most people don't quit when they are winning because greed convinces them there is still more to gain. And once they start losing, they become focused on recovering what was lost instead of walking away. Even after recovering, the urge to keep playing usually doesn't disappear, and thats how the cycle repeats itself over and over again.

Greed and the desire to recover lost money is like a never-ending road. If you do not stop yourself, these thoughts will keep coming back and even if you win, you will bet more aggressively and even if you lose, you will keep taking more risks to recover that money. It is a kind of mental problem, if you cannot get out of such thoughts, become addicted very quickly. They lose their wealth, waste their savings behind gambling. I think if a person makes a fair profit, he should stop playing. At least for that time or for that day, he should refrain from betting.

Why not stop? The reason lies in the gambler himself. Because a person should not give in to greed. This is what it really looks like. Fate gave a man a gift - he won. Instead of thanking fate for good luck and rejoicing, the person says: "It's not enough! More money!" That is, he is unhappy and ungrateful! Then the man succumbs to greed and loses everything. This is a perfectly legitimate punishment for discontent and greed. That is why it is better to withdraw the winnings and use them at your discretion. You can always make a new deposit to gamble again.

There are numerous factors and I believe this is regular in gambling. If you win, it's like: This is my momentum, One more round is nothing. Losing you want to get a little back. However, even if you make an equal number of winnings, you think that you could have won more if you had been more successful. And this cycle tends to move the stopping point. This is a psychological thing and the decisions taken are emotional. There's a lot of things that come into play: greed, euphoria at winning, FOMO. My friend often says that the ability to stop is often more important in gambling.

It's part of us, as humans there lives greed in everyone of us. And so that is very evident in gambling. We are already up and yet we don't what to stop because we are looking for more. Then suddenly the mood shift, we have this unlucky streak and then we lost everything including our capital.

Others might learn their lessons, for the majority, they feel that they are in control and invincible and that their winning streak will continue. So you are correct, it's a vicious cycle and it's really hard to control or explain unless you really have that mental discipline because you have experience it before.

What else is new for people who already won big? The feeling is there and the belief that they can do it once again will never fade. Thats the crazy thing about winning its associated with greed that cant be control or overcome. It will only depends on someone discipline or contentment in life to fully stop.

Imagine you won like $1million in gambling. At first you stop since youre gonna enjoy and spend it while taking sometime to wonder what if I play again maybe another win like this.
