People will certainly vote in favor of the tax revenue possible if it can alleviate the burden of income or sales tax they must pay alternatively.   So long as the capital gained isnt wasted thats the main thing, its productive in that way I believe.

   The real deal is that every country on earth has gambling activity whether its banned or not.  You can capture it as valid regulated business or you can spend your governments efforts banning a natural activity centuries old that people will do regardless, why gift the revenue and profit possible to those below the law, it'll happen either way imo.

If a vote were held on who would be in favor of gambling and who would be against gambling here in my country, I believe that the majority of people in my country would vote in favor of gambling. If legalization of gambling will be voted, I'm already certain with its outcome. As long as its not an Islamic country, majority will surely vote yes for it.

However, its a good thing for the government also because that will increase their revenues, imagine how many casinos will pay their taxes, that is already a great help for the improvement of the country's infrastructures and lift up its own economy, as long as the money do not go to the corrupt officials.

But its also the government's responsibility to filter legalized casinos from shady ones. And promote responsible gambling so that massive addiction will be avoided if possible.

If such vote is held in my country, the vast majority of the people will vote that gambling to not become legalized. The people that are finding themselves gambling today are not the larger populace of the country people, they’re of the minority group even though the gambling industry have received a large number of people showing interest more in gambling as a way of making quick money and not ready to face the economy challenges in the country.

Also, the vast majority of the populace are the people from the northern part of the country whom are more dominated to be Muslims that don’t adore gambling as it is seen as a sin against the religious belief. So putting their votes into account even though we have some Christians living there too, they’ll have the more votes to win against those that wants gambling to be legalized. Voting may not do justice to this but maybe if the government is able to manage and regularise it more, we will see a better outcome from it.

Here in our country, the government is the operator of many casinos online and offline, and if they decide to let the voters decide, they might campaign for its legality because it's like losing a big portion of revenue coming from the gambling sectors, they might even manipulate the voting, buy votes or do propaganda that gambling revenues are good for the country.

Buy votes? Just the same way they do in terms of getting themselves into power, and that's very shameful. If there is anything like an election, they should always allow the people to make their own choice instead of trying to manipulate things all the time just for their own selfish interests.

I don't find this part to be funny, but understanding the kind of politics being played in my country where even the people's votes counts don't counts during election's when the people's choice are supposed to decide of who emerges as the people's representatives, instead the government had already decided on who is going to be announced as the winner.
So in that case of the people having the privilege to make such regulatory decisions in gambling wont still be effective because the government will always who they are. So even after the people's decisions made, the authorities mandates will always stand and considered before the masses opinions. I am particularly talking about corruption in the governance .

If the elections are free and fair, I feel like it would likely be voted in and approved for gambling to be allowed. Why? The current state of the world is one that promotes degeneracy heavily. The biggest sponsors to events and stuffs are gambling platform and 3 of the most popular projects in crypto right now (aside bitcoin) are:

Maybe you cannot trust some kind of decisions like this to the opinions of the people, In an environment with a poor economical strength, where gambling is seen as a possible source of income, people will always vote for gambling to be legal so that they can have the opportunity to pursue their interest. The government has to be in charge of this kind of decision, they have to analyze the risk level and make the decision. In a case where it is obvious of the dangers gambling will bring, it can be best to limit or bar it completely to avoid severe economic consequences.

Here in Brazil, sports betting is already legal, but casino games (slots, cards, roulette, dice) are prohibited.... I certainly believe that if there were a popular vote here, the vote for legalization would win.

However, it is very unlikely that the government here would allow a popular vote in this regard. Several news reports have reported that the legalization of sports betting is being blamed for the high debt levels of the Brazilian population. Obviously, this is a lie, because the problem lies in the poor public administration of recent years, led by the left-wing party.

In short, I do not believe we will see any further easing of restrictions here anytime soon.

Allowing the citizens to decide their fate which means every one should be responsible for their own action, although it has given them gambling creation to make wealth(such as having a betting shop/casinos, generating revenue for the government) out of it, having fun and not to get addicted and become unwanted in the society.

We do not have any issues with gaming in my country as a good percentage of the population, including women, play one form of gambling or the other. There is rarely any major street that you will not find a gambling shop and there is a huge market for online platforms. No wonder major casinos like Stake, IWin, BC.Game and others now allow deposit in my local cureency. If  it happens that people are asked to vote to legalize gambling, an overwhelming majority will vote yes. Gambling is already legal here and I don't think there is any reason for such voting.

I believe so too gambling have build a big fans base that most people are misunderstanding or underrating it, that is why you see some comments about gambling not receiving votes in favor of it continuity or approval in their country, the truth is that gambling is more loved on Private tht is, some people may speak or act against it in public, but in their private domain the secretly fancy gambling and engage in it, so voting in favor of gambling approval for them is easy since no body ill see their votes.

I live in an Islamic country where gambling is forbidden by Sharia law, and I do not believe that the government can leave the decision to the people regarding the legalization of gambling because this is contrary to the country’s constitution, which is based on Islamic Sharia law that prohibits gambling.

But if that were to happen, I think the local community would be divided between those who support legalizing gambling based on the principle of personal freedom and another group who would strongly reject it based on the principle of Sharia prohibition. Since people here are not used to democracy, it is better for the decision to remain in the hands of the government.

Point of correction please, "Steuben County" is not a country, but it is rather an administrative subdivision of a State. And secondly "Steuben" happens to fall under the administrative subdivision under the State of New York, which is a territory that has its own sub government in place, together with a population of approximately over 98,000 people living in that geographical location. Yet still pays regards to the law of the State and that of the Federal government of the United States of America. So coming out to ask people to decide or vote if they want to legalize gambling in that administrative subdivision is not a bad idea, because I'm pretty much sure what they were referring to is the physical inland casinos.

He just site it as a example as you can see he says "inspired", so he didn't talk about "Steuben County" as a country.

In any case it might complicate things for that country if they are going to include it to their population to decide whether to legalized gambling in their country or not. So for me it should go that road, still up to the government to decide.

Why it will go to the people in the first place? For sure everyone has it's different opinion on it, there will be division. So the best thing to do is for the government to decide what's better for their country. If they think that having land base casinos is good because it create jobs and taxes for them then good. But if for some other reasons, like state religion that forbids gambling then don't legalized gambling in any shape or form.

For our country in the Philippines I think this would never happened for the reason that Government is living winh taxes and gambling industry is one of those that given them huge profits from taxes.

There are some things that the government decides on without consulting the public. Gambling is one such thing where the government can directly legalize or prohibit it, because the government knows very well who among the general public in their country will support it. In some countries, it is legalized even if there is no public support, and in some countries the government is neutral. However, I think that in most countries gambling will not receive direct support from the general public. But even in those countries, gambling can be legalized. Gambling is not forced on anyone, because those who want to gamble will gamble and those who are not interested in gambling will ignore it.

In Moslem country, the government will not let people vote about legalization of gambling. They will get so many reaction from the religious people which will not agree with gambling legalization.

Only minority will agree with gambling legalization but in the end, religious people with all of their component will force the government not to legalize gambling.

The government might consider to legalize one place to running gambling industry. But they will strict with the rules and only those who can pass the rules can enter to the casino. Maybe that will only for foreigner people who pass in our country and want to playing gambling so they will be suggested to go to that place.

I am from Venezuela, a country in which casinos are not so visible, but gambling certainly is, and because of it, I think people would vote in favor of allowing gambling and casinos to be legal here (as it is currently), because this is a republic in which religion does not command over civil activies like drinking alcohol, gambling or using certain drugs.

Until people vote and the vote result is out should be when we can make a conclusion. I still think the opinion of people can be divided in a way that as some people will support gambling, some people may not support gambling, especially those that have read about bad things about gambling.

Yes, I also see it as something good for the government to do, but I think gambling should be what is allowed because people should have the freedom to what they want, like gambling. It is parents, teachers and people themselves that should know how to be disciplined and avoid the bad side of gambling.
